In a prompt and coordinated response to the tragic crash of an Air India flight near Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, the Indian Army has deployed approximately 130 personnel to aid civil authorities in ongoing Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations. The crash occurred earlier today during the takeoff of a London-bound flight carrying 242 passengers, marking it as one of the most devastating aviation tragedies in India since the Charkhi Dadri mid-air collision of 1996.

The Army’s deployment includes a combination of engineering units with heavy machinery such as JCBs for clearing wreckage, medical teams composed of doctors and paramedics, Quick Action Teams (QATs), and fire-fighting units equipped with extinguishers and water bowsers. Provost personnel have also been tasked with securing and managing the crash site to streamline the rescue operations.

Additionally, a nearby Military Hospital has been placed on high alert to provide immediate treatment to the injured. The coordination is aimed at overcoming significant challenges posed by the widespread debris and thick black smoke that have hampered initial efforts. Reports indicate that among the casualties are at least five medical students, deepening the sense of national grief.

This swift military response mirrors global standards seen in previous international air disasters, such as the 2018 Jakarta crash, where rapid deployment significantly enhanced the effectiveness of relief efforts. The Indian Army’s expertise in disaster management is expected to play a crucial role in improving survivor outcomes in this high-casualty event.

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and has instructed state officials to expedite all rescue and relief efforts. A green corridor has been established for faster medical evacuation and logistical support. The nation stands in mourning, with condolences pouring in for the bereaved families and prayers for the swift recovery of those injured.

As operations continue, further updates are expected from both military and civil authorities regarding the ongoing investigation and the status of survivors.
