Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, P K Mishra, visited Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) in Bengaluru on Tuesday to review progress on key indigenous defence projects. The visit, led by HAL CMD D K Sunil along with board members, focused on evaluating the production and development status of India’s flagship fighter aircraft programmes.
Mishra began his visit with a tour of the LCA Mk 2 hangar at the Aircraft Research and Design Centre (ARDC), followed by an inspection of the LCA Tejas Assembly Hangar and Aerospace Division. At the Tejas division, he reviewed the production progress of the LCA Tejas Mk 1A and was briefed on its ongoing manufacturing milestones.
During the visit, HAL showcased six LCA Mk 1A fighter aircraft and two Mk 1 trainer variants, reaffirming its readiness to lead complex, multi-stakeholder defence projects in the future. HAL also reiterated its commitment to achieving self-reliance in defence production and aligning with the Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision.
Mishra’s visit to HAL is part of a broader government effort to monitor and expedite indigenous defence and infrastructure programmes. In recent weeks, he has also inspected major infrastructure developments in Gujarat, including the Ahmedabad-Dholera Greenfield Expressway, Dholera International Airport, and Tata Electronics’ Semiconductor Fab Project.
His review meetings emphasized timely execution, global quality standards, and the need to strengthen India’s defence manufacturing ecosystem through technological innovation and skilled manpower.
