Indian Army Launches Aviation Asset Module to Advance Digital Transformation

DGIS Launches Aviation Asset Module

Marking a major stride in its digital evolution, the Indian Army on Tuesday unveiled a cutting-edge Aviation Asset module designed to optimize its air operations and streamline aviation logistics. Developed by the Bhaskaracharya National Institute for Space Applications and Geo-informatics (BISAG-N), the new module was launched under the Military Information System Organization (MISO) 4.0 framework.

The tool was formally introduced by the Director General of Information Systems and the Director General of Army Aviation in Gandhinagar, reflecting the Armyโ€™s commitment to indigenous tech solutions as part of its โ€œYear of Tech Absorptionโ€ and long-term โ€œDecade of Transformationโ€ strategy.

The Aviation Asset module is a secure digital platform capable of capturing and analyzing daily flight data in real time. It is expected to significantly enhance mission planning, aircraft management, and operational readiness across the Army Aviation Corpsโ€”Indiaโ€™s primary rotary-wing force, established in 1986 to provide agile battlefield support.

Officials noted that the new module aligns with broader efforts to modernize the Indian Armyโ€™s command and control infrastructure. By leveraging geo-informatics and satellite-based systems, BISAG-N has delivered a platform that could reduce logistics errors and operational costs by up to 15%, according to technology integration benchmarks outlined in a RAND Corporation study.

As the Army continues to expand and upgrade its aviation fleet, the Aviation Asset module is set to become a critical enabler of efficiency, accountability, and real-time situational awareness.

The initiative also supports Indiaโ€™s push for self-reliance in defense technology. It follows a MoU between the Ministry of Defence and the National e-Governance Division aimed at centralizing military data and integrating advanced digital tools across services.

Experts say the scalable nature of the Aviation Asset module opens the door for future implementation across other branches of the Indian Armed Forces, potentially transforming the way military aviation is managed nationwide.

The launch of this system underscores the Armyโ€™s resolve to build a digitally empowered force capable of meeting the challenges of modern warfare with speed, precision, and indigenous technology.
