The Indian Army has repelled a major Border Action Team (BAT) strike and infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) near Tikka Post in the Uri sector of Baramulla district during the night of August 12–13. The attack, launched by Pakistan-based terrorists under the cover of darkness, targeted a forward post in the Area of Responsibility of 16 Sikh LI (09 Bihar Advance Party) and the jurisdiction of Police Station Uri.
Alert Indian troops retaliated swiftly, foiling the infiltration bid and forcing the attackers to retreat. A large-scale cordon and search operation was subsequently launched to track down the infiltrators.
In the intense exchange of fire, Havaldar Ankit was martyred sustaining fatal injuries while defending the post.
The incident comes amid ongoing Operation Akhal, which began on August 1 following intelligence inputs about terrorist presence in South Kashmir’s Akhal forest area. The operation has already claimed the lives of Lance Naik Pritpal Singh and Sepoy Harminder Singh, while more than five terrorists have been eliminated.
Operation Akhal follows a series of high-intensity anti-terror missions, including Operation Mahadev near Srinagar’s Dachigam area and Operation Shiv Shakti, which together neutralised multiple Lashkar-e-Taiba operatives responsible for recent massacres. Security forces remain on high alert along the LoC as tensions continue to escalate.
