CDS Unveils VAYU Portal 1

In a major step towards defense modernization and technological self-reliance, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan today launched the ‘VAYU’ Portal at the Central Aviation Support Depot (CASD). Developed jointly by the Indian Army and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), this advanced digital platform is set to revolutionize military logistics through real-time, secure information sharing.

The ‘VAYU’ Portal, short for Virtual Automation towards Yielding Unification, aims to streamline repair cycles, with HAL estimating a reduction of up to 30% in turnaround time. The initiative reinforces India’s Atmanirbharta and MakeInIndia missions, reflecting a decisive move away from reliance on foreign defense technology.

Taking cues from systems like the U.S. Joint All-Domain Command and Control (JADC2), the portal integrates an Inter-Organizational Information Sharing (IOIS) system for seamless coordination between stakeholders. A RAND Corporation study commended similar frameworks for boosting operational efficiency and resilience, underscoring the portal’s potential to become a model for international defense cooperation.

The launch event, part of the ‘Yearof Defence Reforms’ initiative, included the presentation of a commemorative plaque to General Chauhan, along with the exchange of documents between military and civilian leaders. A group photograph captured the moment, symbolizing the unified push towards next-generation defense capabilities.
