The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal AP Singh visited the Artificial Limb Centre in Pune today and interacted with Corporal Varun Kumar, a serviceman injured during Operation Sindoor. The operation, launched on May 7, 2025, targeted terror camps in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir after the Pahalgam massacre that claimed 15 civilian lives and left 43 injured.
The visit brought focus to the human cost of the ongoing India–Pakistan tensions. Operation Sindoor marked a major escalation through precision strikes by the Indian Air Force, though independent verification of casualty figures from the strikes remains unavailable. Analysts have raised concerns that unverified claims may mask operational challenges.

The Artificial Limb Centre, a premier tri-services facility, showcased its advanced prosthetic technology during the visit. A study in Military Medicine reported a 30% improvement in recovery outcomes for soldiers with limb injuries using modern prosthetics. The Chief of the Air Staff praised the centre’s commandant, doctors and staff for their service, highlighting the institution’s role in helping injured personnel transition to civilian life or return to duty.

The event reflected the themes of sacrifice, resilience and technological progress in military rehabilitation amid regional security challenges.
