The Government of India has appointed Anish Dayal Singh, a retired senior IPS officer, as the country’s new Deputy National Security Adviser (Dy NSA). Singh, a 1988-batch officer from the Manipur cadre, had earlier served as the Director General of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) before retiring in December 2024.

In his new assignment, Singh will work closely with NSA Ajit Doval, offering strategic counsel on a wide range of national security matters. He will oversee internal security issues, including those related to Jammu and Kashmir, Left-Wing Extremism, and insurgency in the Northeast.
With over three decades of experience in counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency operations, Singh’s appointment is seen as a major step to reinforce India’s security framework. His expertise is expected to play a crucial role as the nation faces evolving threats from terrorism, insurgency, and cyber vulnerabilities.
Singh will also coordinate with other key security agencies, including the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and the Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW), to ensure a seamless intelligence and security integration across multiple fronts.
Officials said his leadership and field experience will be instrumental in strengthening India’s national security apparatus, with his contributions expected to have a long-term impact on shaping India’s security policies.
