The Awe-inspiring Story Of Maj. Gen. Razdan India’s First Paraplegic Major General

Maj. Gen. Razdan of 7th Parachute Battalion, is also a battle casualty. He was injured in an anti-terrorist operation in Jammu and Kashmir during 1994, which left him paraplegic for life. In spite of the limitation, he has overcome all obstacles to become the first wheel-chair bound general in the Indian Army, a release said. He is currently posted as Assistant Chief Integrated Defence (Counter-terrorism).

The third fell face up. “I thought he was dead, but he fired,” he says. “The shot went through my abdomen, my intestines spilled out and my spine broke. I knew I would never walk again. Yet, I shot him dead.”He refused to be evacuated till the encounter was over, sustaining himself on self-administered intravenous drips. He was later awarded the Kirti Chakra.
