The Indian Air Force (IAF) will conduct a two-day routine military exercise over the Arabian Sea near Gujarat and Rajasthan, close to Pakistan’s airspace, officials confirmed on Monday.

The drill will take place from 11 a.m. on September 2 until 2 p.m. on September 3, with a NOTAM (Notice to Air Missions) already issued to alert aviators and ensure safe airspace management. The IAF emphasized that the exercise is part of its regular training schedule.

A NOTAM is a specialized aviation advisory that provides timely updates about unusual or temporary conditions affecting flight operations. Issued by airport authorities and government agencies, these notices play a crucial role in maintaining safety within the National Airspace System.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the globe, the 21st edition of Exercise Yudh Abhyas, a bilateral military drill between India and the United States, began on September 1 at Fort Wainwright in Alaska. The exercise, which will run until September 14, aims to strengthen operational coordination between the two forces.

The Indian Army has fielded a contingent from a battalion of the Madras Regiment, while the U.S. side is represented by the 1st Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment (‘Bobcats’) of the Arctic Wolves Brigade Combat Team, 11th Airborne Division.

Over two weeks, both sides will engage in heliborne operations, surveillance using unmanned aerial systems (UAS), mountain warfare drills, rock craft training, casualty evacuation, and combat medical aid, the Defence Ministry said.

Coming amid a complex global security environment and evolving bilateral ties, the twin exercises highlight India’s focus on enhancing preparedness at home while expanding defence cooperation abroad.
