A Pakistan Army MI-17 helicopter crashed in the Diamer district of Gilgit-Baltistan on Monday morning, killing all five personnel on board, the military confirmed.
The helicopter, which was on a routine training flight, reportedly developed a technical fault before going down around 10:00 am (0500 GMT). The victims included two pilots, two crew members, and a flight engineer.
Local police officials said the crash occurred during a test landing on a newly proposed helipad in the mountainous tourist area.
This incident comes just weeks after another MI-17 helicopter belonging to the government crashed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province during flood relief operations, killing all five on board.
Pakistan has witnessed multiple fatal helicopter crashes in recent years. In 2022, five soldiers and a senior army commander lost their lives when their chopper went down in flood-hit Balochistan.
