India’s Chief of Army Staff, General Upendra Dwivedi, has launched Operation SINDOOR: The Untold Story of India’s Deep Strikes Inside Pakistan, a new book authored by retired Lieutenant General KJS ‘Tiny’ Dhillon. The release offers an unprecedented account of the four-day military campaign carried out in May 2025, marking one of India’s most decisive responses to Pakistan-backed terrorism.
The book details the operation’s planning and execution, highlighting the use of indigenous weapon systems such as the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile and the Akashteer air defense system. International satellite imagery has confirmed extensive damage to Pakistani air bases, contradicting earlier claims of limited impact. Analysts say the operation signaled a shift in India’s deterrence strategy from reactive measures to precision, pre-emptive strikes.
Speaking at the launch, General Dwivedi said the operation’s success lay in its ability to neutralize threats while maintaining broader regional stability. The book also documents India’s effective use of media and social media to wage psychological warfare, a tactic increasingly central to modern military strategy.
Lt Gen Dhillon, a decorated veteran known for leading the Srinagar-based 15 Corps during the post-Pulwama crisis in 2019, brings rare insider insight to the account. His previous bestseller, Kitne Ghazi Aaye, Kitne Ghazi Gaye, earned the popular choice award at the 2024 Crossword Book Awards.
Published by Penguin Random House India, Operation SINDOOR is now available nationwide. Military experts believe the book will fuel debate on Indo-Pak relations, India’s evolving defense doctrine, and the role of technology and information warfare in future conflicts.
