The Northern Command of the Indian Army, under the leadership of Lt Gen Pratik Sharma, paid tribute to Lance Dafadar Bharvad Mehulbhai Mepabhai, who laid down his life while on operational duty in the Ganderbal district.
In a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at a military base, the soldierโs coffin, draped in the Tricolour and adorned with marigold flowers, became the centre of homage. Officers and troops of all ranks stood together in silence, saluting the courage and devotion of the fallen soldier.
The Army reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the bereaved family, emphasizing that the nation stands firmly with the kin of its bravehearts.
Located close to Srinagar, Ganderbal is strategically significant due to its mountainous terrain and history of militancy. Carved out as a separate district in 2007, the region remains a sensitive operational zone where soldiers face persistent challenges.
The Northern Command, re-established in 1972, has been strengthening its leadership structure, including the appointment of a Command Subedar Major in June 2025, aimed at enhancing coordination and morale.
The Indian Army said the sacrifice of Lance Dafadar Bharvad Mehulbhai Mepabhai would always be remembered as the nation mourns the loss of a valiant son of the soil.
