A viral audio clip of a heated conversation between a Mumbai-based loan recovery agent and an Army soldier has triggered widespread outrage after the banker allegedly insulted the soldier with abusive and derogatory remarks.
In the audio, the woman—initially identified online as Anuradha Verma from HDFC Bank—is heard berating the soldier over loan repayment delays. The soldier can be heard questioning high interest charges, saying, “You sanctioned me a loan of ₹15.85 lakh. How are you charging interest of ₹16.23 lakh?”
Her response quickly escalated into a tirade. She mocked his profession, saying, “If you were educated, you’d be working in a good company. You’re illiterate, that’s why you’ve been sent to the border.”
The agent further made offensive remarks about martyrs and disability, claiming, “That is the reason your kids are born disabled and you guys die at the border.”
Despite the soldier warning her that he had recorded the call and would take action, she continued abusing him, saying she had worked with CRPF clients for over a decade and dismissed his grievances as insignificant.
Public Backlash & Bank Response
The clip has sparked anger on social media, with many demanding strict action against the banker and calling her remarks “disrespectful to the Armed Forces.”
Amid mounting criticism, HDFC Bank issued a clarification distancing itself from the controversy. “Hi! We would like to clarify that the lady in the audio clip is not an employee of the Bank,” HDFC stated.
The incident has reignited discussions around debt recovery practices, accountability of collection agents, and the dignity of armed forces personnel who continue to face financial pressures while serving on the frontlines.
