An Indian Army soldier lost his life during an ongoing gunfight with terrorists near the Doda-Udhampur border in Jammu and Kashmir. Security forces believe that three to four Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorists are trapped in the encounter.

Initially reported from Kishtwar, the Army later confirmed the operation site as Dudu-Basantgarh heights along the Doda-Udhampur axis. The White Knights Corps stated on X (formerly Twitter): “Contact with terrorists. Update | Contact site of the ongoing operation is Doda-Udhampur border. Operation continues.”

The joint operation was launched by the Army, Special Operations Group (SOG), and J&K Police following specific intelligence inputs. One soldier sustained gunshot wounds in the initial exchange of fire and later succumbed at a military hospital.

This is the latest in a series of encounters in the region. On June 26, 2025, security forces eliminated Haider, a top JeM commander active in the Dudu-Basantgarh forests for four years. Earlier on April 25, another soldier was killed in the same sector during a similar operation.

Meanwhile, in a parallel development, the J&K Police’s Counter-Intelligence Unit carried out intensive searches across seven districts—Srinagar, Baramulla, Anantnag, Kupwara, Handwara, Pulwama, and Shopian—recovering digital devices and documents linked to ongoing terror activities.

The encounter at Doda-Udhampur remains active as forces tighten the cordon to neutralize the trapped militants.
