During a routine cleaning drive of Dal Lake on Saturday, officials from the Lake Conservation and Management Authority (LCMA) discovered the remains of a shell linked to Operation Sindoor, Indiaโs military response to Pakistan following the April 22 Pahalgam attack.
The shell remnants were found near Oont Kadal, a site previously impacted during the May 10, 2025, incident when a missile-like object landed in the lake, causing explosions that shook Srinagar. The recovered remains were promptly transported to the nearest police station for further examination and necessary action.
Operation Sindoor, conducted in May 2025, was a decisive Indian response to the Pahalgam terrorist attack that claimed 26 lives. The recent recovery serves as a reminder of the operationโs intensity and underscores the ongoing need for vigilance and careful management of affected areas.
Authorities confirmed that the cleanup and recovery were part of broader efforts to maintain Dal Lake, a key tourist and cultural site in Srinagar, while ensuring public safety and environmental preservation.
