New Photograph of Alleged RAW Agent Vikash Yadav Released by U.S. Authorities

Despite these denials, analysts say the release of the new image signals Washington’s determination to keep diplomatic pressure on New Delhi ahead of Nikhil Gupta’s trial, scheduled for mid-2025.

Alleged RAW Agent Vikash Yadav

In a significant development in the ongoing investigation into a foiled assassination plot targeting a U.S. citizen, American federal authorities have released a new photograph of Vikash Yadav, the man they accuse of being the mastermind behind the plan. Yadav, identified as an Indian national and alleged operative of the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) India’s external intelligence agency is now one of the most sought-after fugitives in an international investigation that has intensified diplomatic tensions between Washington and New Delhi.

Yadav is accused of orchestrating a murder-for-hire plot aimed at Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, a U.S. citizen and prominent Sikh separatist based in New York City. The alleged plan, which was thwarted by U.S. federal agents, involved hiring a hitman through co-conspirator Nikhil Gupta, who has since been extradited to the United States and is awaiting trial.

The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has charged Yadav with murder-for-hire, conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire, and money laundering conspiracy, based on evidence outlined in a second superseding indictment unsealed in October 2023. Investigators claim that Yadav was acting as the handler and primary decision-maker behind the operation.

The newly released photo part of the latest batch of evidence submitted to the court is expected to play a crucial role in efforts to locate and apprehend Yadav, who remains at large. Law enforcement officials believe the image, which appears more recent than previously available pictures, could significantly improve chances of public identification and tip-offs about his whereabouts.

A spokesperson for the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) stated that the updated image “represents an important step forward in the ongoing manhunt for Vikash Yadav” and urged anyone with information about his location to contact U.S. authorities immediately.

The photograph’s release comes amid new revelations linking Yadav to multiple assassination plots beyond U.S. borders. Evidence presented in recent court filings suggests that he may have coordinated a second targeted killing in May 2023, believed to be linked to the assassination of Paramjit Panjwar, a Khalistan Commando Force operative killed in Lahore.

This alleged involvement points to a wider network of covert operations, with encrypted communications, financial transactions, and email records forming the core of the U.S. case against him.

The case has become a major flashpoint in U.S.-India relations. While Washington portrays Yadav as an Indian government employee acting under state direction, New Delhi has denied any official involvement and stated that an internal investigation is underway. Indian officials have also cautioned against jumping to conclusions, pointing to the absence of direct evidence linking Yadav to other incidents, including the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada.

Despite these denials, analysts say the release of the new image signals Washington’s determination to keep diplomatic pressure on New Delhi ahead of Nikhil Gupta’s trial, scheduled for mid-2025.

Vikash Yadav 2025

The unveiling of Vikash Yadav’s latest photo marks a turning point in a case that blends elements of espionage, statecraft, and transnational crime. With mounting evidence including emails, WhatsApp conversations, and financial trails prosecutors argue that Yadav played a central role in a sophisticated assassination network stretching across multiple countries.

As the U.S. intensifies its search and the legal proceedings against Gupta move forward, the image of Vikash Yadav may soon become one of the most widely circulated faces in global counterintelligence circles and a key piece of evidence in a case that could redefine the contours of U.S.-India intelligence cooperation for years to come.
