A four-week-long Potential Subedar Major Course concluded on 07 October 2025 at the Junior Leaders Academy (JLA), Bareilly, marking yet another milestone in the institution’s continuous endeavour to shape dynamic and disciplined Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs) for the Indian Armed Forces.

About Junior Leaders Academy, Bareilly

The Junior Leaders Academy (JLA), Bareilly, is a premier training establishment of the Indian Army, entrusted with the crucial responsibility of grooming JCOs and Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs) into competent and confident leaders. Known for its rigorous curriculum and focus on leadership, military tactics, and character building, JLA aims to instil a sense of responsibility, initiative, and commitment among its trainees. The Academy plays a vital role in bridging the gap between the officer cadre and the rank and file, producing leaders who can inspire and lead from the front in all operational environments.

Course Highlights

A total of 103 Subedar Majors and Potential Subedar Majors from the Indian Army, Indian Navy, Special Frontier Force (SFF), and Assam Rifles successfully completed the Potential Subedar Major Course, one of the most prestigious leadership courses for JCOs. The comprehensive four-week programme was meticulously designed to enhance their tactical acumen, administrative efficiency, and leadership qualities — all essential for higher responsibilities in unit and formation management.

During the valedictory ceremony, the Commandant of JLA, Bareilly, addressed the participants and underscored the pivotal role of Subedar Majors in maintaining unit discipline, administration, and morale. He lauded the participants for their dedication, professionalism, and zeal to learn, emphasizing that Subedar Majors act as the crucial link between the officers and soldiers, ensuring cohesion and operational effectiveness at every level.

Award Winners

Among the participants, Sub Pawan Singh of the 94 Medium Regiment distinguished himself by being adjudged the Overall Best Student and Best in Theory, reflecting his exceptional understanding of military tactics and leadership principles.

Sub Maj Sunil Singh Dogra from the Army Air Defence College (AADC) was awarded Best in Communications for his outstanding proficiency in operational communication and coordination — a vital component in modern warfare and field operations.
