Recording probably a rare flight history for the Indian Air Force’s (IAF) Flying Instructor’s School (FIS), a father and son flew a Chetak helicopter together. According to N Andavan, Public Relations Officer (Chennai), the event was a rare occurrence in the history of IAF’s FIS situated in Tambaram.

Flying together was Air Marshal Arun Purushottam Garud, Air Officer Commanding in Chief, Southern Air Command and his son Lieutenant Commander Abhijeet Garud. The father-son flight happened at Air Force Station, Tambaram, on March 30. Lieutenant Commander Abhijeet is a naval aviator undergoing the Qualified Flying Instructor’s (QFI).iaf-chetak

“The duo flew for over an hour and the father taught his son the finer nuances of instructional flying,” Andavan said. Air Marshal Garud is a Category-A QFI. He had held position as a directing staff at FIS earlier. According to officials, Air Marshal Garud has rich and varied experience on operational flying, training and staff assignments. He is a senior QFI and has flown in excess of 6300 hours on various helicopters and training aircraft in his career. After putting in close to four decades of Service in IAF, Air Marshal Garud is retiring by the end of May this year. In November 2013, the then Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal NAK Browne had flown his last sortie in a Sukhoi at the Pune base. Browne flew along with his son Squadron Leader Omar Browne from the Lohegaon air base, ahead of his retirement. In the mid-90s, at the Air Force Academy (AFA) in Dundigal, near Hyderabad, a father-daughter duo had flown together in the mid-90s as part of their training schedule. The then Commandant of ASTE Air Vice Marshal K M Nair had a sortie along with his daughter, who was a flight cadet with the AFA then. The duo flew in a Kiran Mk-II aircraft. (This Correspondent had interviewed the duo then.) According to noted IAF historian Jagan Pillarisetti a.k.a. P V S Jagan Mohan, six father-son teams flew and demonstrated their aerobatic skills in various parts of the country on October 7, 1992. Jagan says that this was part of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of IAF and the only occasion when so many father-son teams took to the air. Dream come true for me, says Air Marshal Speaking to OneIndia, Air Marshal Garud said that it was priceless moment for him to fly with his son. “It was a God-given opportunity. For us to fly together, the time and space all came together. It’s a dream come true for me. I want my next seven generation to be in the armed forces. My daughter is already married to a naval officer as well,” said Air Marshal Garud. He said flying with son took him back to his early days of flying. “Yes, it was a flight down memory lane for me as well. But inside the cockpit we were true professionals. We conducted very professionally in the cockpit. No emotions in the cockpit. He saw the professional pilot in me and I saw the professional pilot in him as well,” the senior IAF official added. The Air Marshal said their flying together gifted great memories of a lifetime in addition to creating a wonderful harmony between the IAF and the Navy.

The Indian Army Is Simulating War Against Pakistan

2
The Indian Army Is Simulating War Against Pakistan

Hello, Warriors! The relation between India and it’s 68-year-old neighbour, Pakistan has never been well going. Many times India witnesses infiltration and militant activities from Pakistan’s side whereas the Pakistani media always has a different story to tell.

Among all these “tensions”, India has moved a step ahead and is preparing to conduct a massive military exercise on its western front with intensive armoured, artillery and infantry manoeuvres to practise swift, high-intensity attacks into enemy territory.

Sources from TOI say the combat exercise, the largest such endeavour in recent times, will be held in Rajasthan in October-November. It will be centred around the 21 Corps, one of the three principle “strike corps” of the Army, but will include almost the entire Southern Army Command. “The exercise, which will peak towards end-November, will also include a major airdrop of paratroopers behind (simulated) enemy lines. Such a large exercise is usually held once in four years to validate, fine-tune war-fighting strategies,” said a source.

With armoured and infantry formations from Jhansi to Hyderabad already mobilising for the exercise, Pakistan “is being informed” of the impending manoeuvres as per the “advance notice” military protocol between the two countries, said sources.

The exercise will include well over 30,000 troops as well as hundreds of T-90S and T-72 main-battle tanks, artillery guns and multiple-launch rocket systems, all backed by “real-time battlefield transparency” provided by satellites and drones, ground and airborne radars. “The aim is to ensure a realistic war-like situation without actually going to war,” said the source. The Indian Army Is Simulating War Against Pakistan

The exercise comes shortly after Army chief General Dalbir Singh Suhag, during a function in the ongoing commemoration of the 1965 war’s golden anniversary, had stated that his force’s operational strategy had factored in the need to be ready for “swift, short nature of future wars” with “limited warning time”. Pakistan Army chief General Raheel Sharif, in turn, had responded by describing Kashmir as the “unfinished agenda of the Partition” and threatened India with “unbearable costs” whether it be a “short or long” war.

For long unnerved by the Indian “Cold Start” military doctrine, Pakistan has also often recklessly brandished its tactical “Nasr” nuclear missile as an effective battlefield counter to India’s conventional military superiority. But India has remained steadfast about nuclear weapons not being war-fighting weapons. While firmly declaring that there will no first-use, India’s nuclear doctrine does however warn that “nuclear retaliation to a first strike will be massive and designed to inflict unacceptable damage”.

The coming exercise will, of course, be conducted under the ‘NBC (nuclear, biological, chemical) overhang’, as is the norm with all such large war games. The Army’s ‘Pro-Active Conventional War Strategy’, colloquially called the Cold Start doctrine, was formulated after the painfully slow mobilization of its “strike formations” at the border launch pads under Operation Parakram, which took almost a month after the terrorist attack on Parliament in December 2001.

This gave enough time not only to Pakistan to shore up its defences, but also the US to pressure the then NDA government to back off. Since then, the Army has been practising the strategy to mobilize fast and hit hard at several points along the border with self-contained and highly-mobile “battle groups”. The “launch” time for the battlegroups is now down to just three to four days, even though logistical bottlenecks remain a constraint for building on initial gains, said sources.

With these ‘preparations’ ahead of Pakistan’s threat to India and especially in the western sector, could this be the ‘response’ that India is giving to Pakistan?

What’s the Difference Between G20 and G8

0
Whats-the-Difference-Between-G20-and-G8

Several groups have been formed to tackle the global problems and many of them are playing crucial role in balancing those problems. G-7 and G-20 are one of them. These groups have biggest economies of the world and are working for stabilizing the global issues.

G7 / G8 (The Group of Eight Industrialized Nations)

Background

Both the G7 and G8 are same groups. Initially the group was made by six members as G6 with its initial members as Italy, Japan, France, Germany, UK and USA in 1975. Their main aim of gathering was to discuss global issues in a peaceful manner. In 1976, Canada joined them and subsequently Russia was invited to the group in 1997 and joined the group from 1998. But Russia was fragmented out from the group in 2014 after annexation of Crimea.

Membership

This group consists of finance minister and central bank governors of seven nations i.e. Italy, Japan, France, Germany, UK Canada and USA. They meets annually to discuss economic and governance issues. The ministers and envoys’ of groups are known as Sherpas.

Russian suspension

The meeting of G8 leader excluding Russian leaders took place in Brussels in 2014, where Russia was suspended from the group. Russia has hosted the summit in 2006 and the next summit hosted by Russia would have been in Sochi, Russia in 2014. But the circumstances led to change the venue to Brussels. The relation came to a critical point when Russian backed rebel group and Ukrainian military engaged into fight, sanctions were imposed by European nations and US on Russia and also imposed penalties on pro-Russian separatist leaders and state officials for isolating it. Conditions worsened after the crashing of MH17, which resulted in expansion of sections.

Minsk accord

As the sections over Russia were getting tightened, Minsk accord was signed by European nations, US and Russia that have an agreement for Russia to withdraw arms and weapons from Ukraine and calling ceasefire.Whats-the-Difference-Between-G20-and-G8

G20 (Developing Nations)

G-20 is another name that remains in news with G-7. G-20 is a group of nations including India which accounts for major economies of the world.

Membership

This group consists of 19 countries and European Union. The summit of G-20 took place in 1999 on the advice of G-7 nations. The leaders of G-20 meets annually like G-7 and central bank governors and finance ministers also meets to bolster the economic ties and conditions, regulating financial regulations.

Background

The meeting was started in 1999 which was just a meeting of finance ministers and central bank governors to discuss the remedies of financial crisis that took place few years back. The leaders met first time in 2008. G-20 has got the support of various organizations like WB, WTO, UN, OECD, IMF, etc.

Achievements

The group has raised the issue of reforms and increasing funds in IMF and effectively agreed over fighting protectionism and boosting economies. The group led to the birth of financial stability board for alarming financial risks. Well, recently a new group has been framed by G-20 leaders named as W-20 which aims to boost the role of women in global economy. The group is formed during the G-20 meeting held in Ankara, Turkey in the beginning of this year. All G-20 members are asked to choose their representatives for W-20.

Is G-20 better than G-7?

It is believed that G-20 has replaced G-7 as most of the developing nations and biggest economies like India, china, Russia, South Africa belongs to G-20 and are not included in G-7. G-20 got appreciation for handling financial crisis in 2008’s summit after the fall down of Lehman brothers. Well, the answer lies in the performance and effective consensus of nations over the issues with their proper handling.

El Niño – New Cause of Weather Change

0
El-Nino-New-Cause-of-Weather-Change

India’s weather pattern is under various questions and has mounted many problems on farmers and government. Suicide rate in India has increased and the government gave limited help to them. Well, the weather changes have been linked with El Niño effect. Here we are discussing about El Niño effect.

El Niño – means little boy or Christ boy in Spanish

The entire process in about the warming up of sea surface over central and east central equatorial pacific region. The process is periodic and leaves negative impact over climate.

Cause

Scientists are still not sure about the cause of this effect. The effect never appears always i.e. its pattern never repeats. Scientists records the temperature change of atmosphere above sea (about 200 meters) for predicting the effect. But the rise in temperature and successive fall in pressure leads to the weakening of trade winds, changing the pattern of rain in many countries. High temperature and low pressure changes the normal weather pattern of counties.

Effects

The rise of temperature over tropic region leads to the movement of warm water from Australia to Peru which is opposite of what happens in normal year. These conditions make cold condition,  in Australia or western pacific region and warm and wet condition in East pacific nation or Peru, leading to flood in extreme conditions. In northern America, winter season shows some warm traits and low snowfall. The effect of El Niño is seen mostly over developing nations on or near pacific region, which are dependent on agriculture and fishing.

Effect on India

El Niño effected Indian monsoon and results in irregular rainfall pattern. Meteorological department predicted that 2014 would show low monsoon level. This led to the drought conditions in India and raised inflation and price of commodities like sugar. So, to balance the circulation of commodities in India, government took some steps to stop their black marketing before it starts, like restricted their export, stocked them, etc. Government gave special help to farmers for supporting them. Finally the GDP of 2014 was lower than previous year, which was expected to be higher.El-Nino-New-Cause-of-Weather-Change

Current Effect

El Niño is recently in news as experts are saying that El Niño winters may benefit southwestern Colorado and LA saw biggest one-day rainfall in 4 years. While California’s drought conditions will become more damaging due to El Niño, on the other hand India also expected to get low rainfall of monsoon this year. Recently, showers have occurred in various regions of India and some places known for drought conditions like Vidarbha.

La Niño is an effect that also comes to the discussion. La Niño is the opposite of El Niño, means the temperature change in El Niño is absolutely opposite to that of la Niño. The effect leads to the warmer winters in North West region. La Niño means little girl in Spanish.

El Niño has greatly affected the weather and has caused lots of problem to the developing nations who are mostly dependent over farming and fishing. Nature has made its own way to show its resistance to the ongoing interference. This must be stopped to shield further harm and effects.
