Arjan Singh- A Living Hero Of Indo-Pak Air War Of 1965

arjan-singh

UPDATE: Air Marshal Arjan Singh Passes away on 16th Sep 2017.

Hello, young warriors! September 22nd marked the official ending of the golden jubilee celebrations of the Indo-Pak war of 1965. The celebrations which started on August 28th, payed tribute to the war heroes by singing their courage stories, organising the exhibitions like Shauryanjali among others.

During the closing ceremony, the President of India and the Supreme Commander of the Indian Armed Forces, President Pranab Mukherjee honoured Air Marshal Arjan Singh and other war heroes on golden jubilee of 1965 war triumph.

He may be just four years away from turning 100, but pride and grit shone through Air Marshal Arjan Singh’s wizened face as he walked up the dias to be felicitated by President Pranab Mukherjee to mark the golden jubilee of India’s victory over Pakistan in the 1965 war.

As 96-year-old, AM Arjan Singh is the only IAF officer to be promoted to the rank of a Five-Star General, walked up to the President with a stick in hand and offered a smart salute, the ceremonial hall at Rashtrapati Bhavan reverberated with a thunderous applause.
Singh, a hero of India’s 1965 military triumph over Pakistan, was among the war veterans invited to Rashtrapati Bhawan for high-tea with the President. Despite a boycott by a section of ex-servicemen of the programme over implementation of their demand for One Rank-One Pension, several veterans attended the event with their families.

The Indo-Pakistani War of 1965 saw the Indian and Pakistani Air Forces engaged in large-scale aerial combat against each other for the first time since the independence of Pakistan in 1947. The war took place during the course of September 1965 and saw both air forces conduct defensive and offensive operations over Indian and Pakistani airspace. The aerial war saw both sides conducting thousands of sorties in a single month. Both sides claimed victory in the air war, Pakistan claimed to have destroyed 104 aircraft against its own losses of 19, while India claimed to have destroyed 73 enemy aircraft and lost 35 of its own. Despite the intense fighting, the conflict was effectively a stalemate.arjan-singh

AM Arjan Singh was chief of the Indian Air Force during the 1965 war during which he demonstrated exemplary leadership qualities to defeat the enemy. As a young squadran leader during the World War II, AM Arjan Singh was involved in Arakan Campaign against the Japanese in 1944 for which he received Distinguished Flying Cross. He was conferred the rank of Marshal of the Air Force in January 2002 and is the only living Five-Star General after the demise of Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw in June 2008.
The ceremonial hall, where Vice President Hamid Ansari, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, BJP leader L K Advani, Defence Minister Manohar Parikar and three services chiefs were present, continued to echo with claps for the veterans for a long time.

Nepal Constitution: Agitation or Approval

0
Nepal-Constitution-Agitation-or-Approval

Recently, Indian and Nepal has been in news for the issue of release of new constitution of Nepal and India’s concern over some of the points that it contains. The new federal constitution has made the Indo-Nepal ties a bit sour. China has supported the constitution but the people of Nepal are engaged in protest to make some changes in the constitution. The nation is divided into seven federal provinces, but ethnic groups in southern area want more rights and territory for ethnic federal state.

Well here we are discussing about some of the points/ articles in constitution that have emerged as the reason of protest and riots in Nepal. Some of the articles were properly mentioned in interim constitution, but their new version in final constitution is something else.

  • Article 11(6)- if a foreign man marries a Nepali woman then he will get the citizenship of Nepal as per the federal constitution
  • The interim constitution of Nepal gives the provision of framing of electoral constituency after every 10 years according to the Article 154 of constitution. But the original constitution has increased the duration to 20 years.
  • Article 86 mentions that national assembly will comprise of 8 members from each of 7 states and 3 nominated members. While Madhesi parties want representation on the bases of population of the states.
  • Article 21 of interim constitution clears that different groups of nation will have right to participate in state structures on the basis of proportional inclusion’. The constitution passed don’t have the word proportional
  • Constitution’s Article 283 mentions that only nationals are entitled to hold the seats of major positions like President, Prime Minister, Vice President, Chief Justice, Speaker of parliament etc.. Here, the problem arises for the Madhesi people who have acquired citizenship and is seen as discriminatory for Madhesis.
  • Article 63(3) of interim constitution makes population, geography and special characters as the base of electoral constituencies. While in case of Madhesis, percentage of population is to be considered. Under this provision, Madhe got 50 percent seat in parliament who constitute more than 50 percent of the population. This have been omitted and need to be re-included to give Madhes proportional electoral constituencies according to their population

These points are raised by India for resolving them and amending. Well, some people have made comments on India’s concern for Nepal and pointed it as interference.

Current situation as per media, protesters have gathered and interrupted the two main border openings with India, shutting supply lines. The ethnic group form the southern area of Nepal have told about their marginalization. PM Sushil Koirla is holding meetings with leaders to pacify the situation. Some 45 people have lost their lives in the protest. India is concerned about the protest and riots as it could infect India also, as many Nepalese are residing in Indian Territory also. Police is deployed to tackle protesters in order to curb their effect to common people. Well the final move in this issue will come after consulting leaders and India is also paying proper attention to its close neighbor.

India Getting Ahead of the Crowd

0
India-Getting-Ahead-of-the-Crowd

Education is the door to bright future.

Using the human power to manage and develop the nation is the task to be done to take the status to the next level. Some major changes in education field have taken place in the recent months that triggered the evaluation of youth.

This month has been very effective in education as the search engine giant, Google and online education company Udacity launched online courses in India. The two companies tied up with India’s TATA to offer online technical courses, focusing over teaching software developers to build android apps (android- OS backed by Google). The course will be of six to nine months and will be charged Rs 9,800 for it. Google instructors based in United States will give lessons to the students. India has 3.6 million developers second in world, whom Google is eying to make skilled. The company will offer 1000 scholarships and all the graduates will be invited for job fair hosted by Google in India, next year.

Even Indian institutions are also going abroad to provide them easy education. Recently, IGNOU has decided to restart its operation in 9 foreign centers. The center will start enrollment of foreign students. The step came after two years it has withdrawn the facilities from 84 countries following legal compilation. The university has stopped working earlier due to the objection from the host nation over the direct agreement with the foreign institutes. Out of 84 nations, the operation in 29 nations was continues, but fresh enrollment was withdrawn from those also in 2013.India-Getting-Ahead-of-the-Crowd

Several efforts have been made in India to gear up the education enrollment in the country. The result is seen recently in a study that disclosed the school enrollment hike in the Indian states. The study revealed that school enrollment in Bihar has touched 93.77 percent at primary level, 87.63 % at upper primary level, 42.08 % in secondary level and 19.06 % in higher secondary level. The performance of Jharkhand and West Bengal has also improved. Kerala, Delhi, Meghalaya, Karnataka have shown good performance in enrollments. This has showed the good pace of new generation being keen in getting education.

Government is also eying at providing equal opportunities to the disabled people. Union cabinet has given red signal to setting up Indian sign language research and training centers. The approval came out during the cabinet meet chaired by PM Narendra Modi. The Center will be setup as a society and will be established under Societies Registration Act, 1860. The Center will come under the patronage of department of empowerment of persons with disabilities, ministry of social justice and empowerment. The society will have a president and a general council and an executive council. General council will have 12 members. The Center will focus on providing equal opportunities to the hearing impaired persons to fully participate in all areas.

Well, the fact lies on how effectively, we utilize our resources to make the conditions more favorable for students to get education. The steps are going in a right way but their expected results will be seen only after the proper focus and unbiased approach.
