Day 1: This is the screening day in AFSB and you are generally asked to report early morning by 6:45-7 am at the railway station. You are taken in a bus from there to the selection center and then the testing begins. First you are asked to fill in some forms, then you are taken for OIR tests. After which PPDT is conducted. Based on the strength, generally the results are announced by 3 pm and the selected candidates are allotted rooms, the remaining are sent to the railway station. Day 2: On the second day the candidates who have applied for Flying branch are taken for PABT tests, which continues generally till 12 pm. After this the psychological tests follow. They are approximately of 2 hours duration and once they are over you are free for the day.
Day 3,4 and 5: Your interview and GTO tests might fall on any of these days. Generally you get one free day in AFSB. Some of you might have your GTO/Interview on the last day also. Some may have GTO/Interview on the same day but of course the timings won’t clash for the two. You might be required to go directly from GTO to the interview. You are required to carry the folder of all your certificated, academics and extra-curricular to the interviewer. The interview is generally a 30 minutes-60 minutes procedure. You’ll be informed well in advance through a notice placed on the notice board about the schedule of your tests.
Day 6: This is the conference day. Some may have their interview/GTO scheduled before the conference also. The conference is a place where you get to see all the board members in the uniform. You result is discussed there. You are called in the conference hall and the process is of hardly a minute, it may stretch for border liners. After the conference your results are announced, its lunchtime by now. Those who make through are asked to stay back for the remaining formalities and others are taken back to the railways station.
Medical: In AFSB the medical may not immediately take place after selection. You will be given a date for the medical.

Generating AFSB interview call letter and selecting a date for AFSB interview is very easy, candidate is required to login at careerairforce.nic.in and click on generate call letter.
Then he will be given few options with different AFSB centre and AFBS dates. Do remember, every date has limited number of seats, so it is better to opt for a date as soon as possible.
Once you are done selecting the same, your AFSB interview call letter will be generated. Take the print of the same and keep it safe.

AFCAT 1 2016 SSB Interview Process
So now you have everything done, time to pack your bag for AFSB interview. Do remember you have to carry all the educational documents in original including AFCAT 1 2016 hall ticket/admit card and AFSB Interview 2016 call letter.
You are required to report at the venue as mentioned in your call up letter.
Candidates will be going through a small document clearance which mostly consist of AFCAT hall ticket and AFSB interview call letter. Candidates having less than 60% or any backlog will be filtered out.
Later candidates will go through QIR Test and PPDT which are part of the screening test.
Once the PPDT is over, candidates will be getting their results within two hours.
Candidates who will clear the screening test will stay back for 5 days AFSB interview.
Note: There will be a fool proof documents checks happening after screening test for the selected candidates, any discrepancy or lack of proof will leads to cancellation of candidature, if you have any doubt related to documents, feel free to ask the authority present there, they are best to help you out.

Develop your productive interest and hobby – Your nature of working depends over your hobbies and interests. TAT (Thematic Apperception Test) is the first test of psychology day and aims at accessing your views, ideas and correct usage of mind in any given situation. Candidates should follow some rules in order to attempt this test in a correct and expected way.
Simple language – TAT is the test where the mind makes many ideas, and the basic way to express them in TAT is to use a simple language. This will ease the assessors to get what you want to convey and you to express your ideas clearly. You can use Hindi words also, if not getting any correct word in English.
Don’t describe – Many times, freshers make this mistake by just describing the picture and resources. Sometimes, candidates start the story and turns towards its description. Well, the basic thing you have to do is to make a story over it. You have to squeeze out an idea out of the picture. And garnish it with your experience and active use of mind.
The story should be normal – Try to make a normal story with the hero being a normal person like you. Your situation, planning and organising your resources should be in a normal way rather than complexity or entangling way.
Check the picture deeply – Entire psychology is a matter of perception. And perception is based on the observation. Your observation can drive your story to a new level. Observe the picture and hammer your mind to break out new ideas.
Enclose story in given time – Your matter of story should be coordinated with the time given. Average story can be written in 12-15 lines, which is sufficient and can be covered in a given time. So utilize the time for observing the picture and deciding the theme of the story. This will simplify your story writing.
The character should be of your age and personality – Your hero/ protagonist should be of your age, physic and should resemble your nature. Don’t make any story where the lead character is either out of the world or different from your personality. Psychologist want a story over you, not any fairy tale or comic story. So if you are healthy, take actions like it. And if you are a thin guy, try to keep working in the story like that.
Use resources and ease planning – Every picture/ story situation has some hidden resources either shown or to be assumed as per you situation and planning framed. For example, if your area of action is market, college or any other busy area, then people can be a resource. The only thing to remember is to know the correct way and timing to use those resources. Availability and use of resources is a matter of experience.
The composition should be practical – The story that you write in TAT, should be practical. Don’t cast yourself as a superhero or don’t try to make the story destructive or heavily problematic. These shows negative side of your mentality. And be practical in the situations you frame. Being practical expresses your experience, way of handling the situation and highlights your OLQs.
Conclusion – TAT is all about your perception toward any giving situation framed on screen. SSB panel wants your response over that situation to access your past experience and use of mind in day to day life. Remember, make a story that resembles your behavior and nature, because psychology access your mind and this must resemble what you are doing in GTO and what you are speaking in an interview. Recently, Lance Naik Hanumanthappa has raised the Siachen topic in entire media and also in the form of questions and discussion. Aspirants need to be completely aware of this part of India, which is guarded by Indian armed forces. The importance, operation for occupying it and some major problems faced by the soldiers in that area are discussed below. Candidates are advised to go through it to clear some basics of it and stay ready for related questions in SSB personal interviews and GD.
Firstly, the incident that recently took place in Siachen needs to be clarified. The avalanche buried 10 soldiers out of which, 1 was a JCO and 9 other were ORs (other ranks). The soldiers belong to Madras Regiment and the incident took place near The Line of Control at an altitude of 19,600 feet where the temperature usually remains about -45 degree Celsius. The operation is currently going on and the rescue is in full swing. The Army has to cut off about 40-feet deep snow layer to track the bodies. Lance Naik HanumanThapa has been recovered alive and is currently going through the medical treatment in New Delhi.
Siachen plays an important role in Indian geography. It is the location present in the Karakoram Range. Geographically, it is the starting point of Nubra River. It is a triangular part that touches Pakistan occupied Kashmir from left and china in right side. It is also named as the highest battlefield in the world. India is promoting mountaineering expedition for civilians as well as foreigners in order to maintain claim over the territory.
Operation Meghdoot
This operation is closely related to the Siachen which aims at occupying and capturing Siachen glacier. The operation was conducted by Indian armed forces in 1984. It was the assault launched in the highest battlefield in the world to secure it from Pakistan. The actual matter stared when Pakistan permitted mountaineering expeditions in this area in 1970s to claim the area. Indian army took action in 1978 soon as it got a clear image of the motives of Pakistan. Kumaon Regiment of the Indian army, along with Indian Air Force, reached the glacier in 1984, accelerating operation Meghdoot. Indian armed forces occupied most of the posts in a week, marking the milestone in the history.
Problems faced by soldiers in Siachen
Frostbite; when the skin touches any metal on that high altitude, it sticks to the metal. It is trouble making thing that is usually faced by the soldier deployed at that altitude. The steep heights and non-vehicular terrains are also faced by the soldiers. Even the toothpaste gets freezes in the tube. As per the sources, arid conditions in that high altitude claim more lives than security activities. Some other health related problems faced by soldiers during acute weather conditions are pneumonia, kidney and heart failure, lungs and pancreases may not function properly. Hypothermia is the major cause of death during snow trapping. Soldiers deployed in that areas spends most of their time in training themselves for that terrain. Except this, avalanche and snow storms are casually reported in the area.

Personal Interview in SSB takes time from half an hour to 2 hours (sometimes) has a wide range of questions, rapid-fire, probing questions etc. Some questions are generally asked of most of the candidates. Some of them are mentioned below.
Your contribution at home – This is a most common and diverse question that has a lot and is genuine to speak. What actually do and contribute to in-home activities. Don’t feel shy here. You can say about helping mother in washing clothes, dusting, paying bills, etc., but stay ready for further cross-questions.
Fluctuation is marks – 90% of the candidates are prone to this question. The ups and downs in marks obtained in 10th, 12th, and graduation or any other course is generally asked in personal interviews. A specific reason is always there behind fall or hike in marks. Mention it and honestly.
Your friends and family – To review and decide your company, candidates are mostly asked about their friends. The basic questions are; tell me something about your friends, who is your best friend and whom you don’t like, the qualities of your friends etc… Similarly, if IO asks specific questions about your family then just answer to these questions and if asked about family then reply to what is mentioned in the PIQ form. To avoid contradiction or counterfeit replies, give genuine answers and stay on your ground.
Why do you want to join The Armed Forces? – This question is asked when a candidate seems to be in a conflicting mood toward his career. Your family background, relations with armed force personnel, adventure interest, facilities, and job security can be a part of your reply.
Management of salary or pocket money – When it comes to money matters, a person is always accessed deeply. This question is asked to check management and correct use of money at the correct place. NDA and TES candidates are rarely asked about this question, but CDS, SSC, and AFCAT candidates are asked about their money management.
Most interesting test in SSB – To access your observation and performance in psychology and GTO tests. Your observation, keenness, and your reasoning ability are checked through this question. So make sure that your reply will be as per your performance or just specify your average performance in every test to mold the question.

Something about your hometown – Observation is best analyzed by asking candidates about their state or hometown or city of their residence. The tests that are scheduled on the second day i.e. after screening day, are for accessing a candidate’s psychology. Every job needs a specific kind of person that fits in the job’s requirements. The Armed forces also have some requirements. And a good and efficient mind is their first priority. The tests in SSB are to access the mind, words and actions and psychology is a part that reads the mind. Before practicing the psychology tests, a candidate must get aware of what a psychologist wants from you.
Experience is the ultimate solution – TAT and SRTs are framed to extract the day to day experience, observation ability and perfect use of resources at a given instant of time. TAT is a test that is based on the imagination, but not the irrelevant imagination of hypothetical ideas. The correct way to attempt it is to express your experience in a better and modified way. While attempting SRTs should be practical and response should be as per your personality and condition.

A soldier has to face various kinds of situation and most of them are tough, directionless and filled with problems. Being an officer is the task to lead the group in all those situations. And this can only be attained with a positive mentality. Everything that enters your mind should come out in a positive way. Entire SSB schedule needs this kind of thinking.
Proportional risk and enjoyment – An officer must not hesitate to show bravery and should be able to take and handle risks. Along with this, a happy, enjoying mood and liveliness is also required in an officer. Entirely enjoyment or entirely risk and action in TAT can take you down. So be proportional in happy and risky stories. Revamp your imagination if not as per this type by practicing and making a good and effective story.
Respond to the point – Write what is necessary, writing useless material is a wastage of time. In TAT, keep the story to the point rather than explaining each aspect. Make sure, your story shows work, not appreciations. Similarly, WAT is all about speed and a candidate must write a meaning full sentence. Here also, write what is in your mind and keep the point clear. SRT is the test where straightforwardness in required a lot.
Your mind should be on the pages – SSB accesses mind words and actions of a person. A perfect coordination of these is the base of the selection criteria. So your mentality must be on the pages of psychology tests.
Copied ideas; a trait of looser – Officers sitting there have to access herd of candidates every day. It is very easy for them to segregate the genuine and the copied ideas. Be honest in framing the ideas. As told earlier, different ideas suit different personalities. So avoid copying others ideas. Talk in the community – The best way to improve your communication skill is to talk in friends circle, good company, different communities, etc. This will make you learn the ways to talk in various kinds of people and situations.
The mirror is your best companion – Communication skill is driven by confidence. Nervousness is one of the limiting factors of confidence. And the best way to improve the confidence is to practice and improve communication skill in front of a mirror.
Talk to the point and factual – Armed Forces works with time and punctuality is the resource for them. Talking to the point saves time and makes the communication crystal clear. All Armed Forces aspirants have to learn to talk to the point and stay away from talking useless things or being extra friendly in SSB. Speak what is required and speak directly.
Read the newspaper and listen to discussions on news channels – Another way to learn the communication skill is to watch English channels, especially news channels. Watching them affects your way of speaking, correct use of words and sentences and also teaches how to speak English is a better social way.
Coordinate your mood – Regulating your mood is also a part of communication skill. Correct mood, posture and limb movement lustres the communication. Manage your mood as per requirement. For Example, a straight and blank mood in the interview is a wrong choice. Make a good decision of choosing and coordination moods and actions as per the situation.
Change of language is not a sin – Language is made to exchange views and communication skill is the way you present your views framed in language. The main motto in SSB is to make your views understandable to the assessors. But, as per the instructions, keep English your first preferred language and use Hindi when you are not getting words. Now the point is, while talking in discussions or in a personal interview, it is a general thing that candidate stuck while speaking in English language. So practice hard for using the Hindi in between when you get stuck. This stuck is named as ‘Mental Blockage’, which is a psychological problem.

The screening test is the very first stage of the SSB schedule where candidates have to survive to continue to appear in further tests. The tests are very short and the result is declared in a few hours.
NDA, CDS, AFCAT batches face a smaller crowd while TGC, SSC etc. has a mammoth number of candidates in the screening test. It is hard to perform in a crowd. So we are here with some tips and tricks to perform better in the crowd and get through the test.
Stick to the PPDT, V-NV instruction – SSB crew has some tricks to fragment out candidate who have learnt blindly and those who have practiced wisely. While the officer speaks out the instruction, candidates must concentrate over them and follow them. Some basic mistakes that candidates normally make, are drawing wrong structures in PPDT, filling wrong info in V-NV tests etc.
Avoid cheating while attempting Verbal non-verbal – Verbal, non-verbal tests (V-NV) are the simple test and the most interesting tests. The booklets are already filled by past candidates and generally candidates follow them. Avoid following those answers. Solve them personally. The questions are very easy and can be solved in a given time. Remember, it is not any competitive test. It is just a test to check your basic aptitude.
Fill in the title, character box compulsorily – Apart from story writing, title and filling up the character structures in the box are also an essential part of PPDT. The basic trick to attempt this part is. – Firstly fill in the characters in the structures as directed by the officer, the start writing the story, ones you get the direction of the story, filling the title before losing time.
Narrate story confidently – Narration is the most important part of PPDT. During discussion, several voices raises, increasing the confidence while in narration, a single person has to narrate eyeing the other candidates. This need prior practice. Some basic rule here to know are keeping the story short and straight, don’t see a particular person, keep watching people around, introductory lines must be narrated as per instructed by the officer.
Discuss rather than shouting – Discussion also needs patience. Now a day it is generally seen that the discussion is conducted by bifurcating the group into two parts to avoid amalgamation of idea and themes. This subgroup consist of 6-9 candidates. Every candidate can sufficiently speak out his views. So have patience, avoid dominating the group, maintain the voice and tone, discuss in a candid way.
Stop imposing your theme, support others – Framing a group story is a tough task. Every mind has a theme revolving inside. But stay calm and make a story that is a mixture of good ideas of candidates rather than discussing and describing your theme. A perfect story is that which has best themes framed and garnished with new and improved ideas.
Stop discussing useless things – Don’t indulge in discussing basic thing or useless things like number of characters, mood sex etc. this need to be concluded in a fraction of time. Jump to theme and body of the story as fast as possible. Take initiative and drive the discussion out of these time wasting points.
