Success can be delayed but cannot be denied. Recommended from 21 SSB Bhopal for SSCT 46 [Rank #2]

Landed up in Bhopal railway station day before SSB date. Good city, my first visit to the city, excitement. This was my 2nd SSB, 1st medical out because of myopia (NDA batch 121). I did LASIK 2 years ago for that and came again. SSB after 8 long years and nervousness to prove “I HAVE IT IN ME” second time. I am accompanied with 2 more friends and tried to get some hotel but all hotels are previously occupied and others are too costly. Then one of friend told me about Gurudwara, we checked the availability of rooms there and yes we got one. Good start and help by god itself.

Day 1:

Documents verified, and filled up some forms. We all had breakfast, fueled with tea. Screening test took place, I wrote proper story and did as instructions given. At the time of discussion fish market is formed, as expected. Everybody was trying to express himself. One of the officers stopped us and divided group into half. I was in 2nd group, 1st group discussion was messed up. Nobody was listening to anyone, they just went on. Same thing happened with our group but I jumped into the discussion with loud voice and others came down. Discussion last for 2 minL, that’s it 2 min!! Then aptitude test was good, almost attempted all questions. And to my joy when result came out I was screened in. 37 out of 332 were screened in. Out of 37, 10 were already recommended, 15 repeaters, 12 freshers. What I understand that to get screened in most imp is to express yourself good and be good listener. Then we filled up PIQ forms and other documents. Then I had dinner with friends.

Day 2:

Got up early (most of engineers sleep at that time) and took bath with cold water as all geyser bathrooms were occupied. TAT was good. WAT was not as I expected even I have attempted all. And I messed up sequence in SRTL. Not feeling good because the mess I have done and here come another shock, I was called up for interview and I am first to get interviewed.

TAT- attempted all stories.

WAT- 60 words

SRT- 40

PI: Interviewing officer started with my performance in physiological tests. Then he asked about my day and previous SSB interview. Then he asked about my whole life from 4th standard to engineering and my previous job. 2 long questions in between and then he asked me about sports and I messed up here. I was not aware of dimensions of Hockey field; even I am not able to answer him about HILL. Then he asked me technical questions and I answered some of themL.  He asked me speed-distance-time question and general knowledge about India. Most of my interview was based on my personal life and relation. Question to think on was “WHY DON’T I HAVE ANY GIRLFRIEND?” My dear single friends please prepare for this question, don’t ignore. Any question will make you a hero from a zero in front of IO. Overall interview was not up to my expectations; I could have done better. I was feeling too bad for day 1, all I did was mess. In the evening I called up mom, she boosted me up for day 2.

Day 2 and 3:

GTO was best thing about SSB.

Group discussion: listen more, talk sense, give valid and logical points and support good points. Quality matters here.

Group tasks: be listener, supporter, give new solutions, encourage team.

Lecturette: if you are good with group you can get through as it gives you confidence to speak on and give a shit.

Overall GTO tasks were good. I had given my best. Well done!! Went to Vanvihar with friends, did cycling and enjoyed a lot. All stress went off. You must do something to remove your stress and to give a best next day.

Day 4:

Everybody was tied up for conference. We exchanged each other’s contacts. When my turn came it was good to see everyone in uniform. My IO asked me few simple questions about stay and all. He asked me to leave and I thanked him and left. One of the officers came up with results and he announced randomly. 4 were recommended and I am the last to be announced.  Out of 10 already recommended people they selected 4, this means it doesn’t matter if you are previously recommended or not but what matters is your performance during SSB. I felt sad for friends but it’s just a part of life (haar k baad hi jeet hai J). Most imp thing is I got 36 more friends.Recommended From 21 SSB Bhopal 2 -Recommended From 21 SSB Bhopal 1

Medicals went smooth. Got 2 temporary rejectionsL. I cleared them in BHDC. I cleared all the tests.

Yes success can be delayed by 8 years but cannot be denied. Even if you cannot did best in one task or day, you can still have chance to win; don’t lose hopes. Thanks to all my batch mates (especially Rohan and Sachin).

Happy with the merit list, 2nd in merit list of SSCT-46, and ready to.SERVE THE NATION WITH HONOUR.

In Conversation With Sub Inspector Amrinder Singh Who Cleared SSB Interview In 19th Attempt

SSB Interview In 19th Attempt

So we recently posted the SSB interview experience of Amrinder Singh who cleared his SSB interview in 19th attempt. Many aspirants got the motivation from this and they requested us to interview him and ask few questions which would help other aspirants who are preparing for SSB interview. So here we present a small talk with Sub-inspector Amrinder Singh.

1. What motivated you to join the Indian army?

Amrinder Singh: I was born and brought in army cantonments, therefore the charm of wearing uniform was a childhood dream. That dream turned into career aim when I joined Sainik School Kapurthala. During this, there were few officers whose personality and aura inspired me and I wanted to be like them. Moreover it’s not only the job but a life that’s full of different experiences and opportunities to groom you into an all rounder. The charm of wearing uniform and becoming an officer lured me.

2. Do you remember all SSB interview attempts, can you mention them?

Amrinder Singh: Yes I remember all of them and they are mentioned as follows

  1. NDA-120 Jan 2008
  2. NDA-121 sept 2008
  3. TES  Nov 2008
  4. NDA-122 Feb 2009
  5. TES Apr2009
  6. AFCAT Oct 2011
  7. UES Feb 2012
  8. CDS Mar 2012
  9. STL-39 Aug 2012
  10. TGC-116 Nov 2012
  11. AFCAT Dec 2012
  12. STL-40 Jan 2013
  13. TGC-117 May 2013
  14. STL-41 Jul 2013
  15. TGC 118 oct 2013
  16. STL-42 Jan 2014
  17. TGC-119 May 2014
  18. TGC-121 Apr 2015
  19. TGC-122 26-30 Oct 2015

3. You wanted to join the Indian Army, then from where the thought of becoming a Sub-Inspector came to your mind?

Amrinder Singh: Actually after graduating from college I started doing job as an Android Developer in a Private company. I used to give SSBs while working there. But when I applied for leave for the third time while working there, they refused to grant me leave to attend SSB. So I left that job and made up my mind to do govt job as there are no such restrictions there. Therefore I starting preparing for govt jobs and got shortlisted for bank PO, Field officer and Sub-inspector. Then I chose job as a police inspector due to my charm of wearing uniform.

4. Giving so many attempts, was it hard and painful?

Amrinder Singh: It was quite hard and painful after all many friends stopped believing in me that I could get through, only the 2-3 supported me till end. It is hard to gather courage after every failure attempt and prepare to rise again and move towards your goal. Never say die spirit sustained me through this journey.

5. What do you think worked in your 19th attempt?

Amrinder Singh: The following aspects I think worked in my 19th attempt

  • Amrinder Singh: The following aspects I think worked in my 19th attempt
  • The collective and balanced performance in all three testing techniques.
  • Through self Introspection and learning from previous attempts.
  • There was a gap of around one half year between my last conference as I was screened out last time. In that gap I improved my personality and behavior and tried to inculcate OLQs.
  • Spontaneous responses to psychological tests even the self description (for the first time I wrote SD what
  • came to my mind not cramming the previously prepared).
  • Accepting my weaknesses in the interview.Sub Inspector Amrinder Singh

6. What was your preparation for 19th attempt?

Amrinder Singh: There was no special preparation for 19th attempt but the improvement and introspection I did on daily basis for last 2 years bore the fruit, It was a collective preparation for long time. In my opinion, KNOWING THYSELF and accordingly improving is the basic preparation.7. Any advice for defense aspirants?

7. Any advice for defense aspirants?

Amrinder Singh: Soldier is who makes a way facing fearful odds. So my advice is never ever give up. Put sincere efforts in preparation.  Self-Introspection and accepting your mistakes helps most in SSB

8. We wish you more success ahead.

Amrinder Singh: Thank you.

13 Qualities And Traits Which Are Checked In SSB Interview

0
13 Qualities SSB Interview

No selection process can ensure a substantial, guaranteed end-product. The period of examination will invariably be short and it will sometimes provide only a snapshot of the candidate’s potential. However, past history, and the candidate’s record of development, will also be a very useful initial guide. Aptitude testing can give notice of the candidate’s suitability for an aptitude-dependant branch and then further assessment, by interview and additional exercises, will help to ascertain the candidate’s overall profile. At interview, close examination should reveal the following qualities and traits:

SSB Interview Preparation Material [ 100% Recommended]

a. Appearance and Bearing. The candidate’s appearance, bearing, grooming, distinguishing features and general presentation should be readily apparent within the first impressions formed at interview.

b. Manner and Impact. The candidate’s conduct throughout the interview, along with his courtesy, tact, confidence, force of personality, presence, poise, polish, humour and alertness will add to the overall impact.

c. Speech and Powers of Expression. Dialogue with the candidate will elicit his ability to communicate. The quality of grammar, vocabulary, diction, general fluency, logic, projection and animation will all indicate the overall effectiveness of expression.

d. Activities and Interests. The well-rounded candidate should have had a varied, interesting and fulfilling lifestyle. Whilst it is important to bear in mind the individual’s background (that is, general opportunities and financial limitations) the range and extent of spare-time activities are important to indicate signs of commitment, depth of involvement, achievement, level of responsibility, spirit of adventure, determination, initiative, enterprise and self-reliance within an overall balance of interests and pursuits.

e. Academic Level and Potential. Whilst minimum levels of academic qualifications will be set, the manner and east of obtaining qualifications, together with the level of commitment, diligence and attitude towards study will all give indications of the individual’s further academic potential.

f. Breadth and Depth of Outlook. The candidate’s general awareness of military matters and current affairs should confirm a maturity of outlook and a general ability to reason, giving also some indications of general intellect.

13 Qualities SSB Interview
Indian Army PARA Commandos

g. Motivation. The candidate’s determination towards his military goals should be ascertained. Sometimes the motivation will have previous substantiation. It will be important to ascertain that the candidate is clear about, and would relish, the commitment and dedication demanded of the officer corps.

These qualities are said to be carrying equal weight age in selection and are spelt out to be equal in Indian context. This is not true. With experience in Armed Forces, it is a well known fact that courage, co-operation and Sense of Responsibility coupled with Reasoning Ability and Social Adjustment are the most important factors in a war, hence, must carry more weight age than the other qualities. War diaries of units are testimony to these issues.

7 Officers Like Qualities Possessed By Every Person

7 Officers Like Qualities Possessed By Every Person

Every person, either an Armed Forces aspirant or a normal person, had faced some of the basic situations which took out an officer from him. During our past life period, we have gone through some of the situations and circumstances, that surfaced our OLQs. Below are some examples of the areas and situations where we have shown our OLQs.

oir test and ppdt
  1. Organised Or Handled Any Task – Everybody has handled or organised something in his lifetime. It can be a small house party, any event for any occasion, in School College, or at home. Your organising skill has made it successful. Any trip or outing planned and organised by you is also an example of it.
  2. Helped Somebody In Arid Conditions – Well, this situation has been faced by every person who is reading this article. You have helped any person in a tough situation, he can be your relative, friend or any person. Your help had made him to get out of the situation.
  3. Handled Multiple Task At A Time – A graduate had faced these kind of situation, many times. There will be a time when you got entangled in more than one task. Completing college works, managing house tasks and your own personal works etc.
  4. Commanded Or Led Any Group – Commanding or leading or instructing has been done by every person. It doesn’t matter, how small or how young is your group. The thing that matters is the way you led them and completed the respective task.
  5. Coordinated With Others To Complete Task – Sports, project making in school and college, readjusting things at home with family members, delivering help in society works etc. are some of the examples that all of us had done. Our coordination with others has made the task successful.
  6. Stood Firm To Achieve Something – Some tough situations are faced by most of the candidates, but still everybody has managed to stand firm and won it. Your determination and will power helped you to complete and achieve it.
  7. Motivated someone – Everybody had surely motivated somebody in his life. Your younger sibling or relative, your friend, or anybody. Your motivation and path direction had made him to continue fighting for his aim.

Now the question that arises here is, if we all have an officer in ourselves, then why don’t we get recommended?

Well, SSB panel wants a guy who knows about himself. Your likes – dislikes, interests and habits, your qualities and your shortcomings, etc. Everybody has OLQs but a person who knows about himself can bloom his qualities and make it suitable for armed forces. Every repeater had heard a word “introspect” from officers on the day of conference. It is not just a farewell speech, rather every repeater need to go deep into himself and check his qualities, introspect and eradicate the mistake. Your shortcomings are not the cause of your rejections, your incomplete analysis of yourself is the main cause.

  • There is nothing write nothing wrong, assessors judge who is fit for the job.
  • Give your best in every task, but don’t try to defeat anybody.
  • Avoid blaming SSB crew.

Indian, being the owner of 3rd largest army, has gathered much fame, but it seems that IAF is going through tough times. All SSB aspirants need to be aware of the matter and all related aspects.

Current Status

Recently IAF’s Air Marshal BS Dhanoa, Vice Chief of Air Staff disclosed that Indian Air Force is going through a shortage of squadrons. The required/ recommended squadrons for IAF is 42, while the current count is 33 squadrons. The shortage is a signal for the Defence Ministry to gear up and provide sufficient requirements to the air force. The number of jets is going down with the drop in the number of Mig aircraft in IAF.

Why Is This A Matter Of Concern?

Pakistan has come up with the induction of JF-17 jets made by the collaboration of Pakistan and China. Along with this, Pakistan has also grabbed the deal of F-16 jets of U.S… Currently the deal is going through ups and downs, due to the India’s protest over the deal. Another big rival, China, is about to receive first batch of Su-35 from close ally Russia. India’s close neighbours are preparing and arming their Air Force, when India is facing aircraft deficiency.

What India Is Doing As Counter Measure?

Well, India has planned to recover its deficient squadrons by inducting indigenously manufactured aircraft – Tejas (Light Combat Aircraft). The aircraft was appreciated a lot in Bahrain Air Show. Another ace to be inducted is Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) is expected to be inducted in upcoming years. LCH will fire rockets and LCA is capable of performing “swing roll” and firing BVR missile and guided bombs simultaneously. On the other hand, India is very close to its long pending Dassault’s Rafale deal. After its induction, India will get some relief from squadron deficiency.

Recent Enhancement

Recently Indian government has given green signal to the purchase of Air Gun. The requirement of 61 flights of Air defence guns has been accepted by Defence Acquisition Council. Each flight will have 4 guns. The guns will be procured under “Buy and Make” procedure. According to the sources, the system has got radars and can shoot down drones and low flying objects. The guns will be made in India in collaboration with the foreign collaboration.

Not only this, Defence Acquisition Council has cleared the purchase of sensors and weapon packages for the new stealth frigate P-17A.

CONCLUSION – Indian air force has shown its performance in many wars. India is completely dependent over its armed forces for securing its entire border connected with Pakistan and China. The ongoing deficiency has made a cavity in defence and security field. Indian air force is advancing its tentacles in all parts and terrains. Last year, a trial landing of aircraft over the Yamuna express highway and current step of reactivating two landing ground in Arunachal Pradesh. The advancement and covering the border area is necessary for the IAF to manage the ongoing weaknesses of Indian air forces. The deficiency is also expected to be fulfilled in short time as the Defence Ministry is stressing over induction of Tejas. Well, the current scenario specifies the increase in defence budget to maintain the defence and security facilities.

I Got Recommended For Indian Army In 19th Attempt

0

Hello aspirants, my name is Amrinder Singh and I got recommended in 19th attempt for TGC-122 from 19 SSB Allahabad on 30th Oct 2015. Earlier I was 12 times CO and 6 times SO. My journey to become an army officer started 7 years ago when I first appeared before SSB for NDA entry. I have tread a long and arduous road to achieve my aim finally. That time I was asked a question “Do you have it in you?” and now I can proudly say “Yes! I have it in me”.  Over these years of struggle I faced failures 18 times but that didn’t FAIL me because I never gave up. “Never Give UP” these were very powerful words for me and these words gave me the courage to rise again after falling. Many of my friends and family members thought now I will not make it to Army and I should stop trying and do my job as a Police Sub Inspector. They thought that I got settled in life, but there was a voice in my heart that said “It is not what you are made for “. I wanted to be an army officer, it was not just a govt. job for me but an honorable and a less ordinary life that I ever wanted to live. You will also come across this after few failures and people will start disbelieving in you. That is the testing time of your grit, you have to believe in yourself no matter what.

Buddies I will not waste your time with how I reached and what pictures and words I faced. Rather will tell you what I learned from all these attempts. Many people ask what are they looking for, the simple answer to this is 15 OLQs. An aspirant must know and understands all OLQs by heart.  Psychologist, GTO and IO all three are looking for these qualities by different techniques.

Introspection plays a vital role in SSB preparation. It means knowing yourself. Knowing yourself doesn’t only mean your strengths but also your weaknesses. It takes a lot of moral courage to know your weaknesses and accepting them. Introspection lets you know what you like, what you don’t what kind of persons you get bonded easily. Introspection is backbone of preparation for Psyche tests and Interview. Do it thoroughly by seeking inwards.

Logical approach: You have to develop logic in every aspect of your life. If you are doing something you must know why you are doing. You are required to have reasons even for your choices. In short you must have reason for anything that is related to you.

PPDT

In PPDT, the foremost task is to observe the picture carefully (there is a difference between observe and look), observe the surroundings, people, notice things. That helps in perception and writing the story. Make the story realistic, simple and related to you if possible. Then narration is the first impression in front of assessors, make most of it. Narrate the story crisp, loud and clear. In GD it’s about behavior in group and expression.  Grab the opportunity to give your point, but don’t interrupt anyone. In my opinion one should speak 2-3 times at max and helps group towards making common story.

Psychological tests

Psychological tests don’t require coming with preconceived ideas but that doesn’t mean one shouldn’t practice. Practice writing stories, words, SRTs under time constraints to get one familiar to test conditions and time factor. During testing, you have to be with fresh mind and respond to the stimulus what comes in mind. In Psyche tests remember the quality matters not the quantity.

TAT is the base of psyche tests. The stories should be reactionary not visionary. They can be derived from daily life, your past experiences and your visualization. In stories you don’t have to write qualities of hero directly like he was cooperative, hard working etc. The qualities should be shown by hero’s feelings and actions.

WAT: Each word is an opportunity to show your quality. Thinking much won’t help you have to write response immediately. Practice WATs with MS PowerPoint.

SRTs: I wrote responses using minimum words but specifying all what to be done. Don’t think much as there is no right or wrong in this. Just think for a moment what you will do if are in that situation in real life and write it down.

Self description: It’s all introspection as I mentioned earlier also. The more you introspect the better you will be able to perform in this test. This is the first time I didn’t memorize my SD and wrote what came into my mind. Though I wasn’t able to complete it but still made it through this time.

INTERVIEW

Interview is mostly about self awareness, reasoning ability and confidence. IO asks questions based on PIQ, technical and GK. The latter two doesn’t matter much but you should know thoroughly about yourself, your relationships with close friend’s n family, your job profile. Preparation for interview can be done by framing questions based on every word you have written in PIQ. Then be prepared to the counter questions which IO will be asking from your answers. One can practice Interview by giving it to your friend.Recommended For Indian Army In 19th Attempt TGC 122

GTO

Group tasks are mostly about team work. It’s not a competition among group members. One has to help the group move forward. One shouldn’t dominate the group and speak every other time, but to come with a idea when the situation so warrants.

This time I was grouped among freshers so I cautiously made it a point to never let them feel I am a seasoned repeater. In GD I spoke only 3-4 times and every time I spoke for around 1 min giving my views completely. I listened receptively to other’s points. In Ground tasks, your idea to go across the structure and your cooperation with group matters whether you are giving from behind or at forward.

Results

Our hearts were pounding and there was a hope of getting through. Duty Officer before announcing results said result is quite good. When he announced my chest no 8, I didn’t believe my ears at first, it happens when your hope is crushed for 18 times. I was at cloud 9; so long I waited for this moment in my life. It was the happiest day in my life.
