We all know that women and men are different, and so are their reactions on situations. While women are more associated with management, men are associated more with physical work. Though a lot of attributes associated by the society with men and women are more of gender sensitization, still the difference exists. SSB is no different and you as a lady candidate are expected to have a different reaction to that of a gentleman candidate.

Earlier there was no women entry in the defence forces of India, and thus no SSB for women. This started in around 1992, when women were inducted in the forces. So most of the materials we have for the SSB are generally male oriented, most of the pictures shown in psychological tests are also no different. Although with the passage of time many reforms have been made. The point here is that you as a lady candidate should perform in accordance. Key of course is to be genuine and be yourself. Given below are important points related to lady candidates in SSB:

1. Many of you get influenced by the answers which your male friends give for a certain SRT or anything, so you try to give the same reaction in your SSB, this is not correct. Psychologically every person thinks differently and definitely your male friend will give an answer in accordance to his surroundings. Please give your genuine reaction .
   
2. You may try to fake courage. In certain SRT’s the situation is such that you/your sister are surrounded by some miscreants, or there is a fire in vicinity, or a thief is running with somebody’s purse. Now you think that if you’ll take anybody’s help then that would be cowardly, but it is not so. Think honestly that will you do what you are writing, in real life situation; will it be possible for you to do so? What we fail to understand is that these situations demand a real life approach, then only your real personality can be judged.
3. In the pictures shown, we may see a dominant male character, but we don’t make him the hero thinking that we have to make a female hero. This is not the case, you can make anybody hero, the quality forms a basis of judgment not the gender of the hero.
4. We tend to avoid making stories related to sexual harassment even if it is quite evident from the picture. In this case you are completely denying the situation, which is wrong. Harassment now-a-days is very much there in the society, just make sure you are writing the story positively. Same applies to the words and situations of the same kind.
5. The Interviewing Officer might ask you very personal questions, might ask you about your boyfriend, your orientation etc., these have no specific meaning, they just check how comfortable you are working with men, because forces in general constitute of men.
6. In the GTO series it is okay to do only a few obstacles in Individual Obstacles. There are looking for officers not athletes. These are meant to just check your basic fitness level. There have been ladies doing only 3 obstacles and still getting recommended.

SSB is not about a single task. It is about your whole personality. Be genuine.

The Ground Tasks in SSB constitute a mixture of indoor and outdoor tasks. While the indoor tasks are intended for checking the mental capabilities of a candidate, the outdoor tasks are intended for checking your physical capabilities. The whole GTO series is meant to check your compatibility as a team member and as a leader. Remember a good leader cares for his subordinates, so leadership doesn’t means bullying.

Here are a few grounds on which you can prepare for your physical tasks:

1. Maintain a basic fitness level: The five days at SSB will require a continuous rigorous work from your body. You’ll have long tiring days and will do stuff which do not do in your everyday life. As you must have heard that a sound mind resides in a sound body, so it is very important to maintain a basic fitness level. Make sure you have the capability of enduring long eventful days.
2. Start doing some basic exercises: Going for a jog everyday will boost up your physical strength and stamina. You can also try skipping or mild cardio exercises. These things will not take up much time and will be of great help to you. 15-20 minutes of jogging are more than enough for maintain basic fitness level. But of course start doing so at least a month before. You’ll develop good stamina which will help you out in the Individual obstacle.
3. Practice balancing and sprint: In SSB you do some tasks which you never do in your normal life, balancing is one such thing. You require balancing in many tasks, so you need to make sure you are able to balance your body weight. Try practicing balancing at home. You also require stamina because all the tasks you do in the Individual Obstacles are to be done under time constraint, and you need to run between two obstacles, so it is very important that you have stamina.
   
4. Stretch your body: Stretching is very important as when you do the physical tasks the muscles involved are completely different, you don’t use those muscles in daily life so much and in such way. SO in order to avoid any injury stretch your body.
   
5. Apply your brain: While doing the task apply your brain. Don’t risk yourself. Lots of lives depend on an officer’s decision; they are looking for somebody who can apply brain. By this I mean that a good leader will never risk his own life, so if you are sure that you’ll get hurt then you should never try doing that obstacle, as you have many other tasks that need to be done. Doing all the obstacles can never be a guarantee for you to get selected. Hence it is advisable to first analyze and then take any action.
6. When in SSB: Make sure you carry the required dress as mentioned in the call letter. Remove all your rings and kadas. Carry a pen and be confident. The most important thing is to enjoy every task you do.

There are two modes of entering as an officer in the defence forces of India. One is direct, i.e. based on the percentage of the last qualifying exam and the other is through written exams. Both are followed by an SSB Interview. Here we’ll be discussing about the written exam. Written exams are helpful especially for those who do not have such a high percentage and thus have negligible chances of getting shortlisted through the direct mode. Candidates specially have such a complain about navy, where the shortlisting is done on rather higher percentage.

1. Focus and regular practice: Preparation for written exams is something which requires a continuous and rigorous effort and it can’t be done overnight. So the first thing you need to excel in your written exam is focus and hard work. You need to study every day for it, no matter for how short time you look through the things but you must do it on a regular basis.
2. Identify your potential: Different people need different amount of time to grasp things. It is very important for you to identify what your potential is and thus realize what amount of time you’ll take to understand and grasp things.
   
3. Time Management: It is another important aspect of preparation. You need to divide time decisively amongst the topics in order to give appropriate time to each. You also need to balance and divide time between your school/college studies and competitive exams studies.
4. Study Smartly: Smart work is the new trend. Hard work combined with smart work gives the maximum yield. So you need to work smartly. Study the paper and draw out the sections which are given higher weightage and thus focus more on them. Study the trend of the paper.
5. Make Notes: The notes you make will help you at the time of last minute revision. They’ll be a good and important compilation of all what you have studied by now. Writing helps in learning things also. So doing one thing, i.e. making notes can have multidimensional benefits.
6. Study Material: Go for reliable study material. There are a number of books available. It is advisable to check their reviews and then buy them. You can get good online study material also. You can subscribe for related online tests and can also subscribe to relevant websites, pages etc. These will give you regular update on the date, time exams, and the syllabus as well as keep you updated with the current study material. Refer to the model and previous year’s papers also.
7. Current affairs: This portion is huge; you need to pay a little time to it every day. Current affairs are asked in every exam related to defence. So if you are planning to give more than one exam then it’ll be a common portion for both. If you prepare this portion well, it’ll help you to a great extent in the SSB as well.

Psychological Tests are a major part of your testing the SSB interview. They generally form the base of your selection. There are various assumptions however that whose opinion matters the most, the interviewing officer’s or the psychologist’s, but to be on a safer side you need to pass this test in order to ensure your success. The psychological testing is conducted by the psychologist, who can be either a civilian or an officer. This is the generally the first test conducted after you get screened in (except for AFCAT Entries where PABT is the first one).

1. Practice: Practicing in advance is very important for these tests, as I have already mentioned, there is severe time constraint, so you need to think and write very fast. Get the sample test materials from our website and practice them before your SSB.
   
2. Connections: Make sure whatever you write in the test, especially in the story writing, reflect your personality and qualities somehow. Just writing random things about random people is not going to help. The psychologist can get to know your only through what you write hence it’ll help him/her to understand you if you write/reflect your own qualities in the paper.
3. PIQ: The PIQ form which you fill goes to the psychologist and the Interviewing Officer. You have to fill it with great care. Maintain a good handwriting while filling up the form, and remember all what you wrote. It is highly advisable to practice filling up the PIQ also before the SSB.
4. Handwriting: Writing neatly is very important. Under stress you are bound to write fast and thus make mistakes, that is the trick. Maintain your peace of mind and try to write as neatly and legibly as possible. This will come only if you practice in advance.
5. Be positive but don’t deny: Being positive is good and you must give positive responses in these tests. But some people tend to completely deny the situation and the picture and make irrelevant stories or give inappropriate responses. Do not deny the situation, if something is very prominently visible in the picture or mentioned in the story then take that into consideration instead of devising up your own picture/situation.
6. Self-Description: SD is like a leaked question paper, where you know the questions before the test itself. So write your SD in advance and practice it again and again to write the replica in the exam.

As you must know that NDA exam is meant for boys who have passed or are appearing in their 12th exams. So if you look closely to this fact you’ll realize that NDA is the biggest and brightest job opportunity you get after 12th, ever thought that you’ll be placed somewhere after 12th! Certainly not! Let us see why NDA is a golden chance:

Whereas once you go after college for SSB, you have seen a lot of exposure; the same is true for other people coming for the same thing. So when you go for NDA you have brighter chances of succeeding. Though SSB is not about better among a group, yet having a good group helps.
5. The ‘they are just kids’ factor: The officials at SSB generally overlook a minor fault you do which they’ll not overlook once you go after college. This is because the officials consider you as kids when you go for NDA, so simple mistakes are overlooked. This helps a lot in psychology and interview. By the way you are not being encouraged to do mistakes!
6. Better chances of reaching up the ladder: The earlier you join, the better chances you have of being the Chief of Staff or any other high rank for that matter. NDA is the earliest you can join.
7. More horizons for sports and adventure: If you are very much interested in taking up a sport, then this is a golden opportunity. You can play for the team of services, where the selections are fair. When you join NDA you get the earliest opportunity for this.
8. The sense of pride: Once you get through the forces, the sense of pride is incomparable. Your personality will be totally changed and the feeling of achieving something at an early age will always remain.

CDS 2 2014 Admit Card Download. UPSC has published the CDS 2 2014 admit card/ hall ticket today. Candidates who have applied for CDSE 2 2014 exam successful can download their CDS admit card from upsconline.nic.in. The Union Public Service Commission will be conducting the Combined Defence Services Examination (II), 2014 at different venues located at 41 Centres throughout the country on 26.10.2014 (Sunday). The e-Admit Cards for the candidates have been uploaded on the Commission’s Web-site http://www.upsc.gov.in which may be downloaded.  Letters of rejection to the candidates stating reason(s) for rejection have already been sent through e-mail provided by the candidates. If any applicant is not able to download his e-Admit Card, he may contact UPSC Facilitation Counter on Telephone Nos. 011-23385271, 011-23381125 and 011-23098543 between (10.00 AM to 5.00 PM) on working day during working hours.  The candidate may also send Fax message on Fax No. 011-23387310. The candidates may note that no paper admit card will be issued.

In case the photograph is not printed or available on the e-Admit Card, candidates are advised to carry three (03) photographs (one identical photograph for each session) along with proof of identity such as identity Card etc. and printout of e-Admit Card at the venue of the Examination to secure admission in the Examination.
