12 Tips For Developing Persuasion Skills

SSB success is just your evaluation revolving around the assessors of the selection board who can decide your fate to be in the armed forces. The assessors test you on various aspects and you are recommended only if all the three agrees that you are capable of being an officer. The tests are created in such a way that you can’t fake anything and only your true personality can be assessed.

Persuasion is the soft skill which most candidates exhibit during their GTO tasks like GD and Lecturette, and psychological tests like TAT, WAT, etc.

Thus persuasion skills will be particularly important for your success as a member of a team, when you will often have to gently and tactfully convince the others in the team to accept your point of view or suggestion.

Here I jot some proven persuasion techniques that you can use effectively in your daily interaction with others:

  1. Begin by establishing a rapport with the person with the person you are trying to persuade. Do not turn angry or turn the interaction into a confrontation.

  1. Try to look at what you want you want to persuade someone to do from their point of view. Ask yourself when in GD or group tasks, “Why should they cooperate with me?” and at the same time try to be correct. Don’t just ask them to do whatever you feel like even when you’re wrong.

  1. State clearly the advantages and benefits of doing something. This is most helpful when topics are suggestion based in lecturette.

  1. Support your request or suggestion with some valid arguments and proofs while in GD to avoid fish-market like situations.

  1. Provide facts and figures to get people to come round to your point of view.

  1. Appeal to people’s sense of justice and goodness. Don’t try to be a boss!

  1. Appeal to people’s emotions when you feel like doing so, is right for everyone concerned and that it will work.

  1. Listen carefully to what other person says. This will help you understand how they think ao that you can use other arguments to persuade them.

  1. Listen carefully to the tone of other person and observe his/her body language because this will tell you if he or she is, for example, against an idea, uncertain or open to a discussion. You can then change your strategy.

  1. Be polite and use the right words and body language.

  1. Do not threaten the person you are persuading with negative consequences.

  1. Do not manipulate people. Remember that your aim is to make someone look at something in a way that will benefit you without harming them in anyway.

Always try to use these tips in your daily lives so that you don’t have to struggle while in SSB. If you have any queries or questions, drop me a message through my social links below.12 Tips For Developing Persuasion Skills

Success Story Of Capt. (Dr.) Lily Swain

0
Dr. Lily Swain

You might have heard the phrase ” Justice Delayed Is Justice Denied”. But, this is not true for success. Success is delayed, but it is never denied. The quantum of efforts you put in for a specific goal decides your success. Having said that, I would like to describe the success story of Capt.(Dr.) Lily Swain, who despite various difficulties could manage to taste the success. Before I could tell you the success story, here is a small record of her family and educational background.

Dr. Lily swain comes from a family wherein the importance is given to education. Her father who is a retired army personnel(Sub Maj) is into real estate and mother is a home manager. Her younger brother is a graduate in mechanical engineering and is preparing for the civil services, and younger sister who is dynamic, young and charming is also into medical field and currently she is pursuing her medicine from Govt. Medical College, Nizamabad.
She(Dr.Lily) completed her Grade 10 from Kendriya Vidyalaya Air Force Station, Hyderabad  ,wherein the atmosphere was really very good, the teachers were supportive in every aspect be it the sports, culture or academics. She passed out successfully in 2006 by securing 90% in the CBSE board examination. Then she moved into a very different board wherein she opted for BiPC(Biology,Physics and Chemistry) which is the mandatory group one should be selecting in order to qualify himself/herself to appear in the medical entrance examination. After two years of hard work she passed her intermediate exam with an aggregate of 96%.Subsequently, she appeared for various competitive examinations of medicine but could’nt manage to secure one.At this stage, she was disheartened but did not loose hope and decided to drop in a year which proved to be a success.
Dr. Lily who is a young medical professional obtained her medical degree(MBBS) from Mediciti Institute Of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad , after putting strenuous efforts for close to five and a half years.Being from the defence background she had a strong desire to join the armed forces.Having selected BiPC stream at 10+2 level was the end as conceived by her.But she never knew that one can even join the forces as a doctor until she came across the advertisement of Indian Army-AMC SSC entry calling young medical graduates to join the forces.
What happened next? Did she apply for the entry? If yes then what was the result?
Well, she ap[plied for it and the interview for the same was held at RESEARCH AND REFFERAL HOSPITAL, New Delhi. She was recommended by the medical board on 02nd May 2015.Unfortunately, she was declared medically unfit and was given a temporary rejection for low hemoglobin count and instructed to appear before the Appeal Medical Board after 45 days.
The appeal medical board at Command Hospital,Bangaluru, declared  her medically fit for the services. Now, the main hurdle was yet to be crossed and what was that?.Yes, you are thinking right-its the merit list. The first merit list was out only in June 3rd week and she was disheartened to learn that her name doesn’t figure in the list of successful candidates. However, her morale was very high and she started preparing for her PG entrance examination. It was only on 24th July 2015 that the second list was out and she sailed through it. Dr.Lily swain’s, appointment as a Captain in the Indian Army(Army Medical Corps)-Military Hospital, Kirkee, justifies the initial two lines of this article.Dr. Lily Swain
The motive behind writing this was to create awareness among the medical professionals to join the forces.I considered ssb crack as the right platform to put up my words. We know that ssb crack is accessed by many youths aspiring to become defence forces officers and they do have their brothers and sisters who are into medical field. So what are you waiting for, just go and inform your beloved ones about this if they are not aware and grab the next opportunity.
Final, few words you should remember. If you think you have it in you, then you will succeed for sure. For details about the AMC SSC entry you can login to www.amcsscentry.gov.in. I would be truly humbled and delighted if this one proves to be a turning point in somebody else life.
Jai Hind!

Armed Forces Losing An Officer A Day To Early Retirement

Armed Forces Losing An Officer A Day To Early Retirement. For over three years now, one officer from India’s defence forces has quit each day. The largest number of officers seeking early retirement from the armed forces belong to the Army.
There is, however, a silver lining. The numbers of officers seeking early retirement has shown a declining trend. These facts were shared by defence minister Manohar Parrikar in a written response to a query raised in Parliament by BJP MP from Haridwar, Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank. Raising a question in Parliament, Nishank sought to know details of vacancies in the armed forces. In March this year, answering a query raised in the Rajya Sabha, Parrikar had said that the armed forces faced shortage of over 11,000 officers.

In his written response to Nishank, the defence minister said that in 2012, 564 officers opted to exit before their set date of retirement; in 2013, 448 officers sought early retirement, and in 2014 the number was 319. So far, in 2015, 97 officers have opted for premature retirement. That in effect is more than an officer retiring prematurely every day in the last three and half years.
The highest number of those seeking to quit were from the Army, at 664 between 2012 and 2015. Retired Lt General KK Khanna, sharing his concern over the large number of early exits from the armed forces, said, “Dissatisfaction simmers when officers are overlooked for promotion. There are fewer vacancies in the higher ranks, and only those high in merit have assured career progression. This sometimes nudges officers to quit and pursue something else.”
Khanna, a former commandant of the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, said this was compounded by the fact that there is these days no dearth of opportunities for officers wishing to pursue a career, for instance, in the aviation industry or merchant navy. “Dissatisfaction, however, is not confined to the mid-level, colonel-rank officers. It is present even among higher levels,” Khanna said.
Besides the aviation sector and the merchant navy, officers with experience in the armed forces also find attractive opportunities in the corporate sector and industry, fuelling premature retirement plans. Retired Brigadier AN Acharya said: “The glory and charm of service in the armed forces has taken a hit for many reasons. Even if one were to retire as general, there are many things one loses out on, in the end. Those who still have time in their favour, at the middle of their careers, might opt for a corporate job or pursue education to re-skill themselves for entry into the service sector or business.”
The defence minister, in his response to the status of vacancies in the armed forces, said the Army has 9,642 vacant officer positions and 23,909 vacancies among other ranks. Navy has 1,179 officer vacancies and 11,653 vacant slots for sailors; the Air Force has 6,664 airmen slots vacant. The minister’s response showed that over 68,331 recruits were under training for the Army; there are 2,247 trainees set to enter the Navy, and 6,152 the Air Force.

14 Sure Shot Tips To Succeed In SSB

14 Sure Shot Tips To Succeed In SSB

Hello Warriors! I was asked by aspirants about things to do and not to do in SSB and for tips to help them prepare for SSB. I want to make it clear that, cracking SSB is not an easy task. Having said that, I’d also like to add that it is not mission impossible either! Here, I’ll share some valuable tips with you which will help you a sure shot selection in the SSBs. But hey, these tips won’t work like magic. You must implement and practice these tips. Then, I can guarantee that you’ll nail the SSB selection!

The first and foremost thing to make up your mind is the fact to remember that you are not competing with other candidates, which is a very major misconception to many (particularly, freshers). All of you will be assigned against a common standard of suitability called the OLQs and it is possible for everyone in a group to be recommended or to not be recommended.

  1. First things first, keep in mind the complete procedure of SSB; about what you are expected to do there.

  2. Good candidates show extremely keen interest, inquisitiveness and insight in the surroundings that are highly motivated to acquire maximum knowledge in every sphere. Therefore, it is advised to brush up your knowledge.

  3. All SSB interviews emphasize on some common topics. These common topics are- India, Indian Politics, History of India, India and its current affairs, Armed Forces in India etc. Questions about these topics are almost always asked during personal interviews, group discussion etc. Make sure that you read and study these topics extensively. Preparing and keeping your own ‘notes’ will help. With the use of the internet, you may get all the necessary knowledge for free!

  4. Jot down all the points that you will talk in an interview. For creating a chain of thought, it is always good to note down all the topics on which you may talk to Interviewers in the whole Interview like about yourself, what others think about you, et al.

  5. An interview is about interacting with people. Hence, you can start learning by talking to your family members or friends in a formal manner. Practice in Front of a Mirror to get confidence for facing an interview. This is an old age technique.

  6. Never assume that you can crack SSB just preparing overnight. It is a long process and you have to give due time. Being consistent and determined is the key to success.

  7. Meet your seniors or other candidates who have cleared SSB. Talk to them and get knowledge about their experiences. It will give you an idea. If that do not turns out to be in your favor, then stay updated to SSBCrack.com , the site is for this purpose itself.

  8. Be aware of the tough climate; practice time management accordingly. Usually, the interviews are held at time, when the climate is extreme. For example, consider the SSB interview held at Allahabad in January. At that time, the place would be too cold and you won’t be able to write fast because of ‘cold and frozen’ hands! And writing fast is the key in most of the Group Tasks.

  9. Exercise regularly, eat well, eat good food. The obstacle course is a real ‘bonus round’. You can score high score if you’re in good shape and have good fitness level.

  10. Take coaching from reputed tutorials to crack an interview there you will meet other like-minded candidates and a better chance to prepare beforehand. Although taking coaching is a good topic of debate, I insist on going for it to the aspirants who are not confident about themselves or are freshers.

  11. You have to prepare yourself psychologically and mentally before you give an attempt. Both preparations take time.

  12. Body language should be positive and relaxed. Not sloppy and tired. You must be active and energetic for the interview. Eye contact is the first thing that is going to happen with interviewers. Hence, eye contact should be normal and you should always shake hands with them. When you are going for the interview, dress formally. Do not wear informal clothes as it looks unprofessional. Avoid using perfumes or deodorant with strong smell as it distracts the attention of assessors. Attire must match your personality. If you are dark then wear light colored clothes, if you are fair then you can wear dark colored clothes.

  13. Your mind should be open without any negativity. It is easy to come negative thoughts so have an open mind.

  14. Finally, an interview for SSB is all about your personality. Yes! academic qualification does matter but it is the OLQs that is more important.14 Sure Shot Tips To Succeed In SSB

The Power Of IAF’s Su-30 Proved In ‘INDRADHANUSH’

0
iaf-and-raf

In some of the most intense international air combat exercises ever featuring the Indian Air Force, IAF pilots flying Sukhoi 30 MKI fighters had a resounding 12-0 scoreline in their favour against Royal Air Force Typhoon jets in Within Visual Range (WVR) dogfighting operations.

A 190-member Indian Air Force contingent, backed by Su-30 fighters, IL-78 tankers, C-17 strategic and C-130J tactical airlift aircraft, left for the UK on 15th of July to take part in the fourth edition of ten-day long bilateral exercise ‘Indradhanush’.

The aim of the exercise was to enhance mutual operational understanding between the two Air Forces. The IAF aims to demonstrate its ability to project air power in transcontinental deployment of a task force comprising Su-30 MKI fighters, IL-78 tankers, C-17 strategic and C-130J tactical airlift aircraft in air operations.

In subsequent Large Force Exercises (LFE) which featured combined Typhoon and Su-30 formations, the IAF jets were somewhat less successful but consistently held an edge over the Typhoon.

The 10 day exercises which commenced on July 21 was the fourth edition of the Indo-UK Bilateral exercise. IAF aircraft and personnel were based out of three Royal Air Force bases: four IAF Su-30 fighters operated out of RAF Coningsby, C-17 and C-130J Hercules transports were positioned at Brize Norton and Garud Commandos of the IAF operated alongside British forces at RAF Honington. The IAF also deployed an Ilyushin IL-78 air to air refuelling tanker at Brize Norton.

The first week of the exercises pitted the Su-30, which NATO calls the Flanker, in a series of aerial dogfight scenarios. First, there were 1 v 1 encounters where a single jet of each type engaged each other in Within Visual Range (WVR) combat, firing simulated missiles to a range of two miles. The exercises progressed to 2 v 2 engagements with two Eurofighters taking on two Su-30s and 2 v 1 exercises where two Sukhois took on a single Typhoon and vice versa. Notably, in the exercise where a lone Su-30 was engaged by two Typhoons, the IAF jet emerged the victor ‘shooting’ down both ‘enemy’ jets.

In all dog fighting exercises, IAF Sukhois were able to turn sharply into the extremely agile Typhoons using their thrust-vectored engines to keep the RAF jets locked in their sights. The Su-30’s advanced Infrared Search and Track System (IRST), a passive sensor, which cannot be tracked, proved to be a distinct advantage for the IAF’s pilots in close-combat maneuvering. Both the IAF and RAF used the full capabilities of their onboard radars albeit in training mode, which meant that actual radar frequencies used in combat conditions were never exposed for confidentiality reasons. However, the detection ranges of the radars of both aircraft were not curtailed per se. This was air combat as close to the real thing as possible.

The pilots themselves ranged from young Flight Lieutenants to senior Group Captains from either side drawn directly from Typhoon squadrons and the IAF’s 2 Squadron, “The Winged Warriors” based in Kalaikunda. The idea was for both sides to expose their operational pilots to a modern frontline platform of the same class. Accordingly, the IAF did not deploy any senior pilots serving with its Tactics and Air Combat Development Establishment (TACDE).

By the time the exercises shifted to Large Force Engagements (LFE) in the second week, IAF pilots were comfortable operating in British conditions. The Large Force Engagements saw mixed formation scenarios where the IAF operated its jets alongside RAF Typhoons in air battles against fellow Su-30s flying together with other Typhoons.

Back in India now, the IAF, like the Royal Air Force, is keen to point out that the exercises were a learning and training opportunity, and should not be seen as a battle between the IAF and the RAF who are close allies and partners.

At the end of the day, though, for the IAF, these exercises were about gauging the skill levels of its own pilots and the aircraft they operate. For the IAF, these exercises came as positive news on where they stand against some of the best of the West.iaf-and-raf
