10 Problems Faced By SSB Aspirants

1
ssb bangalore

No matter how much a candidate is prepared for the SSB, he/she will always be facing some or the other kind of problem when in SSB. The reason being very simple that the place, procedure and the people are new. There is immense pressure on the candidate to perform, and all of that when the stake is their career, and their dream. However the board leaves no stone unturned to help the candidates and provide them a comfortable stay and good food, yet there are some problems which a candidate may face, and the board might be unaware about it.

  1. All new customs: When a candidate goes for SSB, he has to face all new customs. Be it the fall in, the various new terminologies or the new style of living. It is true that before going to SSB we live our life in a different way, and in SSB it is different. This is very rapid transition and has to be adapted in a very short span of time.
  2. Terminologies: A lot of the candidates come from a civilian background. They get amazed and confused at the new terminologies which are used in SSB. These are normal terminologies for the people in the board and for those who are from the background of Armed Forces, but not for those who are coming from a background different than that.
  3. Non-Compatible Group Issue: We may be kept with a group in which nothing we find common. We feel isolated or may have a different mindset and thus a difference of opinion with others. Since we have to do most of the task with this group only, it is a problem.
  4. The bully guy: In your group there may be a person who is a bully, who will force you and the group to agree to his/her terms and conditions. You have to bear the consequences and carry on with this person.
  5. And the dork: There may be a person who may be a dork, totally socially inept and contemptible. We have to carry around with this person too.
  6. No phone issue: When our life totally depends on our phones it is hard for us to stay without them. Not only for the cut-off communication issue but also for our basic needs like alarm clock, time etc. The most important things is we refer to the internet as and when we want to look for the things we need to read or study. Staying without phones is an issue definitely.
  7. Waking up: Okay so just mentioned above that phones are our necessity and waking up without the alarm clock becomes an issue. Of course, there are loudspeakers in some centers yet the problem remains which is getting up early.
  8. Getting lost in the book-outs: We are without phones and so are our other group mates. When we go out, we go out in a group, we stick with each other and in case one of the person gets lost, it is almost impossible to locate him, so the only way remaining is meeting back in the SSB center. We feel we are in the stone age almost.ssb bangalore
  9. A Battle between right and wrong: With no clues and no words about the center officially, we depend on various sources to prepare for our SSB. We hear so many versions that we get confused that what is wrong and what is right and which one to follow.
  10. Getting intimidated in the conference: When we enter in the conference hall, there are scores of officers sitting in their uniforms. We get intimidated by their personality.

Although none of these problems are big enough and they can be resolved easily, by our efforts and judgment.

Life Of Women In Armed Force

Life Of Women In Armed Force

It all began in 1992 when the first batch of women was inducted in the Armed Forces of India. A revolutionary step indeed and a step which received mixed reactions from the people. In a patriarchal society like India, this was a step which would mark the revolution for the equality of women. However, this was a remarkable step and the sheer enthusiasm and application which the Indian Armed Forces receive from women now is magnificent. The number of lady officers in the Armed Forces is a reason big enough to show that there is no gender bias when it comes to being a soldier, a soldier is just a soldier.

The life in the Armed Forces is not easy. Be it a man or a woman, the pressure is strong enough to break you. However being a women, it is slightly more tougher than it is for men. Men and Women receive almost a similar kind of training, in the Armed Forces. However for some branches the training for men is tougher. In the Indian Armed Forces, there are no direct combat roles for women. That is to say our women soldiers don’t go as a fighter pilot, or as an infantry soldier. Their main role is in the supporting arms like administration, logistics, supply, signals and ordinance. Of course there are women military pilots too, confined to transport and helicopters. Whether women should be allowed to serve in the combat roles or not, is a question of debate. Keeping conditions like prisoner of war and physical strength it is a no, however seeing women from other countries like Israel in the combat roles it has to be a yes. Nevertheless this topic is subjective to a person’s own view.

The life of a women Armed Force officer is full of challenge and grit. It is definitely not an easy task. The continuous relocations, far away from the family at times, can be difficult for both body and mind. The training they receive is at par with the training that male officers receive for the same post. The physical part is tough and the mental part is tougher. Yet the will to wear those pips on the shoulder fights against all the odds that come their way. The training is grueling, and they made to face a lot of scenarios in order to make them string enough to sustain. There have been rumors about the sexual harassment of women in the Armed Forces. I would have easily dodged this topic in this article, but I wouldn’t do so. Armed Forces is a very big family and a clean organization and even the minutest scar is enough to bring down its image. I have just one thing to say in this regard, that a mistake of a few can’t represent the whole organization.

Thus the Armed Forces provide an excellent job opportunity for women with grit and determination. It is a place where you get a chance to face all odds, yet emerge out of it victorious. Of course, it is not a conventional career choice and you will be one amongst a few who get into this. But if you can make it in this, you’ll have the best times of your life. A place where you can grow and learn, in an environment of safety and security, and most importantly get a chance to do whatever you can for your motherland.Life Of Women In Armed Force

I would conclude by these lines I have read repeatedly on the inter, liked it every time I read, though I am unaware of the original author of these lines, yet whoever wrote this, it is simply brilliant:

“While you carry a purse, she carries a 65lb rucksack. While you shop with your girlfriends, she cleans her rifle with her battle buddies. When you wear heels, she wears her combat boots. Instead of the make-up that you wear on your face to make yourself look pretty, she paints her face for camouflage. While you kiss your husband goodbye for the day, she kisses hers goodbye for the year. Don’t forget about the women who serve our country and protect our freedom! God bless our troops!”

Ecofriendly Measures to Avert Green House Effect

With the increasing population and excessive dependency over comfort and luxury, temperature has gone to such a level that it is showing adverse effects over the entire world. Greenhouse effect, acid rain, increasing sea level and many more effects have made their impact over human race. Well, rise and fluctuating temperature with shifting seasons have made Indian agriculture a hard thing to continue.

Agra is heading to the implementation of a rule that will restrict possession on one car by one household. The step was taken after analyzing the traffic congestion in the district. On the other hand, Agra is listed as 19th polluted district despite anti- pollution measures being followed since last 15 years. Agra is the name that is popular for Taj Mahal, India’s pride. Well, it has also become a bait of pollution and global warming. Its expensive marble is corroding, which is a point of concern for local as well as national authorities.

Continuous bulk emission of CO2 and approaching threat of global warming has made the government to take steps in favor of environment and for continuance of the human race. Excessive emission of these toxic gases has led to several changes and some top agencies have alerted that it will make more harmful changes in future.

One of those largest glaciers has lost its largest chunk due to increasing temperature. NASA has also predicted a sudden rise in sea level, which can be dangerous for ecology. About one meter rise in sea level in next 100-200 years have been reported. Estimation states that nearly 150 million people are living in that range of one meter that will be occupied by the sea in upcoming years.

India has to learn lessons from other nation who are forwarding to reduce greenhouse gasses and reducing temperature rise.

Netherland railways have declared that it will power 50 % of its trains with wind by the end of this year and all its trains by 2018. Wind power is one of the best sources to reduce pollution and this initiative can be a good thing for India to make its air cleaner.Ecofriendly-Measures-to-Avert-Green-House-Effect

Another report in America revealed that about 30,000 mines of America are leaking toxic wastes into waterways. The toxic waste is estimated to be approx. 3 million gallons. Old mines have polluted 1600 miles of rivers and streams.

India has also moved ahead in same path planning to launch a pilot project of providing charging points on petrol pumps for electronic vehicles in order to support the use of electronic vehicles in the country. The project is currently planned to implement on pilot basis and if the project got good response, then government will take further steps to make it compulsory.

Many ecofriendly ideas are emerging daily in many countries to overcome the common problem. Using in-exhaustible sources can give better results with long lasting effects. Initial months of this year was seen bad for the farmers because of irregular rain and draught like situations and even some areas of India faced wrath of flood and hard rains creating problems for people. These all are the outcomes of increased pollutants in environment in different forms.

Recommended From 18 SSB Allahabad In The First Attempt [AIR 61]

Recommended From 18 SSB

Started from Anand Vihar Railway Station on 14th may  , took leave from my work thanks to my manager at work who himself was an defence enthusiast but was not able to crack the SSB. Train – North East Express thanks to Indian Railways for a journey of 8 hours the train was delayed by 7.5 hours  not a bad start I said to myself  ;).reached at midnight stepped at the platform to find my wristwatch’s strap broken again I said to myself aren’t a bad start.

Day 1: Nothing special, the documents verified. We retired to our barracks 18SSB though the stalwarts and legends (repeaters) were giving the gyaan which many of my friends who had come earlier had suggested me to expect. Avoided it totally.

DAY 2: The Screening test took place. As a fresher, I was quiet nervous but yeah being from technical background OIR test ended out to be a cakewalk. I wrote a proper concise story with proper solution to the problem. But in the box given I made a major mistake where we needed to mark the emotions instead of marking the soldier positive I ended up marking him negative (-) I was in a state of shock when I recounted the horrifying mistake I’ve made. But bang onn !! my description of the story went like clockwork spot on and precise with a proper conclusion. And to my joy when the result came I was screened in. In fact 20 of us were screened in (Conclusion what matters the most is how you are able to describe things in the given time .written material doesn’t matter much if the description is nice and lucid). Then we had to fill in the PIQ form and other documents.Take copies of all your sports certificates that u have. I took my basketball, football and volleyball certificate’s from college days.

DAY 3:  Psychological test (The Trailblazers)  NO doubt it is the most important test. But I won’t write the whole thing cuz I’m sure each one of you knows the basic ritual. I’ll tell you what’s the basic decorum I followed “Quality over quantity “SRT and WAT were related to my PIQ more of technology that I follow and sports that I have played. Keep a positive theme overall. Blank TAT Story was related to a volleyball tournament which we won recently.

Day 4 and Day 5: GTO!!! The best thing about SSB is the Group Task Series ! The first task is Group Discussion. Listen more talk sense, give valid points  support valid points reinforce them, avoid altercations with other candidates and you’ll sail through smoothly . It does not matter how much you speak, the quality of what you speak matters the most.3-4 times will do the trick. For the group task if you have the leadership quality in you and the good problem solving capabilities you’ll naturally know how to tackle them. Enjoy the tasks and you will make it. GOR (Group obstacle race) Coming first is not the theme but moving together and helping each other is the purpose. Lecturette if you are sync with your group mates you’ll be comfortably able to speak to them as you stand there for your lecturette never look at the assessors. Be confident.. and this comes to you naturally if you are good friends with your batch mates. Camaraderie should run deep if you don’t have this basic OLQ I feel army is  not meant for u buddy.

Personal Interview: Took place on the fourth day after my GTO was over. The president of the board was my IO started off on a very casual note asking about myself and family .them  I was technically rogered, back to back rapid fires, regarding my educational qualification, my sports achievements, friends and family, and work. I was prepared about them repeaters had warned me about this (do keep a good knowledge about your loved ones, the sports you love playing your qualification I think self-awareness is much important after all general awareness is of no use if you are not aware about yourself).technically if you are the navigator of the interview its up to you how you guide the IO to your field of interest as IO is very formal.. my enthusiasm about sports and my family made him question me more about my sports achievements and family relations. Now the special thing that I faced in the interview was this- Next to my chair a small box was kept on a corner table .. he asked me to pick it up and open it .As I opened it I found many daily use items like paper pins paper clips, pen caps, needles, glue stick, bunch of  keys, he asked me to pick one item , I picked up the glue stick, he asked me what all ways except the basic purpose of sticking could I put this item in use in my day to day life. Yeah so I told him some 5-6 uses which I’m not able to recollect ..things like using it to jam doors using the cap to measure equal amounts of fluids, using the screw system employed in it to act as a levelling equipment , I technically nailed it , seeing my enthusiasm he asked me to pick up another item so I picked up the keys, again I was able to provide 4-5 uses. He seemed to be impressed finally I felt a moment of relief in the interview after all that rogering in the starting. He asked to me to stand up and leave and to my joy he said “God bless you my son” that was something I never expected.

Conference: Judgement Day Each one of us tidied up for the conference. We waited for our turns to come. My turn came. It was a pleasure seeing every officer suited up in their respective uniforms but I focused on my IO the president who sat in the middle. He asked me about ,my stay and accommodation’s , what I did and where all we went, I followed the basic decorum “All is well”, I told him that I made many new friends, he counter questioned me “making friends is some business of yours ??” my reply was “sir its not a business but it comes naturally to me and it is an ever growing family of mine which I nurture a lot”,18 SSB Allahabad

He seemed impressed next question “do you also remove people from your family of friends when you have a fight”, my answer “sir if I have a fight I try to reconcile quickly as I can’t stay aloof from my loved ones”, next question “chest no 1, 2 who came ahead of you gave so many suggestion for the betterment of the facility’s provided here how come you seem to be very satisfied ”(his voice became quite heavy this time, more to intimidate me), my reply , “Sir they(I took both their names) may have given some productive suggestions but I found no shortcomings , as the facility’s provided were up to the mark and I enjoyed my stay here”. He asked me to leave I said thank you and left. The lady Psychologist  came gave a  pep up speech and announced the result Chest No 3 was the first call .. stood up…. numb couldn’t feel much then she called another number chest no 9 . that’s all !! it was I felt sad cuz I met many gem of a people out there at the ssb who would’ve made it but fell short due to some or the other things, I felt sad for them. But to cheer up I recollected that it was 20th of may My mums birthday now I had two reasons to be happy. After all getting recommended on your moms birthday.. I couldn’t have been any more special for me.

Medicals went smooth was declared medically fit.im. Merit in AIR 61 Now I join OTA, Chennai in October. I wish all the defence enthusiasts all the very best and never ever give up chasing your dreams.

All You Need To Know About AUSINDEX

Indian navy exercise AUSINDEX

India and Australia will undertake their first bilateral maritime exercise – AUSINDEX in Vishakhapatnam next month. This was announced by the Defence Minister Manohar Parikar who is on his two-day visit to Australia after meeting his Australian counterpart Stephen Smith in Perth.

With this good news and the both the navies eager to know each other & their weapons well, here I bring you all that you need to know about it as a defence aspirant:

  1. This is the first ever bilateral maritime exercise between India and Australia.
  2. Three Royal Australian Navy ships and a Royal Australian Air Force AP-3C aircraft are expected to travel to India for the week-long exercise.
  3. The exercise will be held off the Vizag coast, between September 16 and 18.
  4. The joint maritime exercise between the two nations assumes significance in the backdrop of China trying to gain access to the Bay of Bengal, by cultivating naval cooperation with Bangladesh, Myanmar and military cooperation with Sri Lanka, while India is trying to strengthen its naval cooperation with her allies.
  5. The drills, first discussed a decade ago, come as global powers vie for greater influence. The Indian Ocean’s sea lanes account for almost half of the world’s container trade, including 80 percent of China’s oil imports.
  6. Though, initially, India had wanted to include Japan in the upcoming exercise, making it a trilateral, it was later decided that the exercise would be held only with Australia.
  7. Earlier, inclusion of Japan and Australia in the Indo-US annual maritime exercise — Malabar, in Bay of Bengal in 2007, had rattled China.Indian navy exercise AUSINDEX
  8. The exercise will include table top exercises, scenarios and practical demonstrations ashore, as well as a sea phase. The practice will embody list tip exercises, scenarios and unsentimental demonstrations ashore, as good as a sea phase.
  9. At sea, surface and anti-submarine warfare and coordinated anti-submarine exercises will be conducted.
  10. Significantly, the US is the main security ally of Australia, which is looking at rebalancing the Asia Pacific region and expecting India, Australia, Japan to strengthen their ties.
  11. A month later in the same waters, India and the United States will conduct drills in October-“Malabar” that U.S. Ambassador Richard Verma described as the most complex yet between the two nations. Japan has been invited to join.
