Five Tips Of Self-Development For SSB Interview

Five Tips Of Self-Development For SSB Interview. SSB is an exam where personality and psychology are assessed. Hence, the preparations also need to be made accordingly. Once the personality is developed full recommendation at SSB is by default. Then we need not prepare anything for SSB, but yes the personality needs to be developed and we need to build a positive psychology. We have been talking about being positive and other such things but aspirants don’t understand what it really means. They try to superimpose wrong thought process on their personality and then what comes as the final outcome is a mismatched personality which leads to rejection. I have talked about this aspect in detail in my earlier articles, so please refer that. Here we will see few elements of self-development that can be helpful in SSB preparation:

Five Tips Of Self-Development For SSB Interview

Here we will see few elements of self-development that can be helpful in SSB preparation:

  • Positive thought process: This is a must for being successful at SSB. It means thinking positive even in adverse situations. This needs to be developed by seeing and working in the positive direction. This becomes easy when a right guidance is taken.
  • Learning aptitude: Everyone has some weakness and strength. I have been receiving queries from mentees and aspirants that whether it’s good to reveal qualities and weakness in front of assessors but I will comment that even if you don’t tell assessors will catch you, as they are experts so it’s better to reveal yourself but yes you should know how to tell so weigh things and tell.
  • Be yourself: There is no need to copy someone else as you are the best in whatever form you are. You just need to inherit the degrees of qualities being assessed at SSB so just proper identification of yourself can lead to revealing the true self.
  • Body language: This is the most important part as it can create a very positive impression among the assessors. Your body speaks a lot and even assessors are expert and trained to study the body language, so beware that they don’t catch up your negative body stature and mark you out. One needs to identify the positive body language and represent in all the rounds whether they are performing individually or in groups.
  • Being social: this is actually an OLQ as you need to be in a group and one need to give their best with different personalities all together whether they are officers or soldiers. So start practicing it while you prepare and explore the world now so that you have the right quotient of this essential quality. Also if all qualities are developed in right proportion it’s really easy to clear SSB.

Why am I not getting screened in at SSB?

screening in ssb

Why am I not getting screened in at SSB. Screening is the main stage where major elimination takes place in SSB. It’s a first-day round which have OIR and PPDT as the rounds conducted on the aspirants where they are assessed and checked for the initial OLQ’s and the potential to be an officer. The written test checks the basic aptitude and the PPDT test the individual performance along with the group performance. Though all the rounds look simple, but they actually test a lot which aspirants don’t realisze. Also a point to note is that the number of assessors involved in screening is more than any of the other rounds of SSB, there in other rounds you will have only one assessor evaluating on different parameters while at screening you will see three assessors evaluating you. So there is no scope of mistake in assessment, be assured for that.

Why am I not getting screened in at SSB

I have seen aspirants complaining that their luck factor does not work at screening or some people even say that they only initiated the discussion and spoke a lot but could not get selected. Some say that people who were shouting got selected while on the contrary some complain that people who were sitting and smiling and didn’t even spoke a word got screened in. There are many myths that will come to your ear but do not listen to any. You have to understand the basic concept of selection at SSB and accordingly work on your personality and psychology which is the primary factor looked in at SSB. Whether you perform in the ground or write things in a copy or even speak something, be assured that psychology and qualities are only being assessed. So I thought of addressing the same though this medium. The following things are judged at SSB screening round:

  • OIR which involves basic aptitude and reasoning ability of an aspirant. Even if this comes in the average range you are screened in.
  • Then comes the PPDT where a hazy picture is shown and the perception is measured for having the potential to become an officer. This is the most important round where the story and the individual narration are given importance. Then comes the GD part where group performance is evaluated. Even if you are at par individually, your chances for selection are clear; then the group performance hardly matters. But this does not really means that you need not perform at GD.
  • If you have performed well in story part and narration you have clearly shown the potential and have come into the eyes of officers, hence the maximum workout needs to be done in this area. If story are written as per expectations and stories have all the material essentially needed selection is already confirmed.
  • So all the aspirants must prepare for this aspect and get ready to be screen in.

screening in ssb

How to narrate and write wonderful stories would be dealt it in a separate article. Still If you have any confusion or feel to take individual assessment of personality for OLQ’s or prepare from your place itself through one to one interaction through my mentoring / counselling program drop me a mail at [email protected] or add me on Fb and drop in a message. Getting screen in is an easy task if the right approach is followed. Revealing personal self fully will get the recommendation if the right path is followed and things are worked with proper guidance. Guidance in large groups may cause loosing of the individual essence of personality as SSB is something very much individualistic so prefer personal guidance instead of large groups so that all the do’s and don’t’s could be followed as per self. A Rare Video On Indian Army Handing Over Bodies of Pakistan Soldiers In LOC

Indian army with pakistani soldiers

In May 1999, Pakistani troops infiltrated into Drass and Batalik sectors. Pakistan Army claimed that there was no infiltration from their side, but the events took place there resulted otherwise. Despite all the fighting and death and destruction, a real soldier is the one who respects his enemy alive or dead, we respect all the men in this video.

Screening Day: got up early, refreshed my mind and focused on the officer qualities I should show to them. OIR was pretty much easy. I wrote a story based on the current event, ex: Nepal earthquake and rescue operation. Qualities reflected in my story: helping nature, initiative, alertness, and adventurism.
Don’t include the above qualities intentionally into your story, stick to the normal flow of your story.
I tried to avoid book stories. There was a clear idea of past, present, and future in my story and I narrated the story confidently. Listened to the stories of my group mates carefully and found out the main confusing element we were having from the picture. I was able to point out the same in GD which lasted only for max 2min.
Tips:

  • All story are good however it doesn’t matter unless until you are able to innovate.
  • Be calm and confident about your story even if it is unique from all others.
  • Accept the logical points from others.
  • Don’t shout in GD unnecessarily unless you have a good point to make.
  • 40 out of 320 got screened in the first day.

Psychology test

PPDT: Writing speed and handwriting matters here, so please do practice on the same.
I stick with my plan so that I was able to write practical stories and sometimes I felt it was like SRT (situation Reaction Test) Don’t go for a super heroic act. Don’t miss any details from the picture.
WAT: Write whatever comes to your mind, I even wrote a same word which I don’t know the meaning.
Speed is the key. Be alert and keep track of the count of the word.
SRT: do attempt at least 40+.Speed is the key. Don’t manipulate you thought and let it be free.
Tip: there will be similar SRT among the other 60 situations. Please do write the same reaction.
Our mind reacts in the same way for similar situations.
SD: I wrote self-description in my own way. Don’t copy it from a book, use your own words. They won’t check for your writing skill but the content.
Personal Interview: Interviewer can ask about anything under sun. The interview lasted for minimum 30min.
As I was for TGC entry, Interviewer asked technical questions from ECE.
GK and current affairs:

  • Terrorist organizations in the world and India
  • IPKF (Indian Peace Keeping Force)
  • Nations and currency
  • India’s geography
  • Current major issues in the world and India
  • History (WWI and WWII)

Frankly I got screwed in Interview however I was never been honest before in any Interview like this.
GTO: This is where I think I scored well.
1st GD
1) India’s Internal security threat and how can we resolve the same.
2) How upcoming Land bill affect our farmers.
We choose 2nd one and I was able to speak second and added more points in between.
2nd GD
1) How to reduce road accidents? Introducing more police force, improving Infrastructure, obey rules and awareness programs.
2) I was able to point out that we missed discussing improving infrastructure and changed the direction of discussion.

GPE

  • Be alert and listen to the instruction given by the GTO very carefully.
  • I was able to perform well in group planning exercise as I was the one who pointed out the priorities.
  • Don’t take wild guesses from the narration of the situation.
  • Be precise and calculate the time and distance as you will get enough time for this.
  • Be quick.

PGT & HGT

  • I was with my team of 10. Helped them and gave ideas to them. Actually I didn’t perform well as I could able to analyze the task properly. However, I did well in HGT with the team of 5. Slowly I was grasping things.
  • I was with my team of 10. Helped them and gave ideas to them. Actually I didn’t perform well as I could able to analyze the task properly. However, I did well in HGT with the team of 5. Slowly I was grasping things.
  • Most of the time GTO helped us to clear the obstacles, so don’t worry even if you didn’t get any ideas but always be with your team.
  • Don’t outsmart your team as GTO can easily notice that you are well trained to do this PGT and all.

Lecture

  • Article 370
  • SAARC
  • Internet
  • Arranged marriage Vs love marriage

These all were in my paper and I choose Internet and talked about it with respect to internet net neutrality which is a current hot topic.
Tips:

  • Choose a topic in which you can talk for 3 min.
  • Deliver your speech in structured manner.
  • Stay calm and speak loudly
  • Stay steady and take care of your body language
  • Be confident and practice it often in front of a mirror or with your friends.

Snake Race

  • This is where you should show your josh and aggressiveness. Help others, as well as keep, motivate others with the war cry.
  • It’s not about who finishes first, it’s all about how you finish.
  • Stay with your team.
  • Obey the rules like “red are out of bound “and if you break any rules tell the GTO if asked the same.

Individual Obstacle (IO)

  • Be physically fit before going to SSB and you can show the same in IO. Try not to miss harder obstacle.
  • At first, do the balancing obstacle.
  • Don’t be afraid. Just do it.

Commando task

  • GTO set the difficulty level of the commando task as per candidate standard. If you get a difficult one then the GTO expect higher performance from you.
  • I got a moderate task and I was able to finish within 1min. After that GTO asked one question which he already asked to the group during PGT. I answered and it was clear that he was very impressed.
  • I was able to show that I can learn things faster and implement them.
  • I called 3 times by my teammates. However, It adds little value to your overall performance.

FGT

  • Same like PGT, try to give ideas to cross and be with the team.

Conference

  • JCO instructed us to how to behave in the conference.

Tips:

  • Prepare the unanswered questions from the interview as the same interviewer may or may not ask the same questions to you.
  • If you don’t prepare for it then say no without hesitation.
  • My conference lasted for max 3 min. Hope for the best and be confident.
  • Make your communication English fluent so that you should be able to convey your thoughts and command.
  • Practice psychology test, increase the speed as well as maintaining your good handwriting.
  • Once you got screened in, make sure that you mingle with at least your group. Your bonding reflects in GTO tasks.
  • Be honest in Interview.

Recommended By The Indian Army From SSB Bhopal: Name- Sajal Roy, Age 21- Recommended Candidate (First Attempt)- Indian Army, Bhopal 22 SSB, Short Service Commission (tech entry-43), Merit list rank-1, Electronics and Instrumentation. A soldier is a person who lives by chance, loves by choice and protects by profession. Right since childhood, I was into the fantasy world of trumpets and canons. 9th June 2014 was the day. Reporting time 0600hrs Bhopal SSB and I remember reaching there at 0300 hrs and the man at the gate asked me to sit outside on the bench as I reached way before the time. When books are released they are released with a purpose, I got convinced about this when I was solving the questions of Screen In test. So its always a wise option to practice the numerical, logical based questions from the books, they are available in plenty. Also, the books contain a good glimpse of interview conversation and topics which eventually widen our horizon

1st day- After solving the questions from the booklet we proceeded towards picture perception. Here’s the game point, I followed a strategy to write something good about the picture no matter how bad could it be. It was with a view that such a writing shows the optimistic person inside u which is an essential officer like quality. Moreover in that writing if we link It with something logical and accompany it with facts and figures it becomes even stronger. The picture was a boy picking some load in a factory and a person dressed up in tuxedo standing nearby, so I wrote that this guy is a poor middle-class guy working hard for his educational expenses and now he has cracked some state scholarship exam …….So this sort of thing gives an optimistic edge to the write up and a good impression. Also from experience, I have observed that throwing facts and figures in a group discussion makes u the limelight and in turn everyone gets into an agreement with you (after PPDT , a group discussion is held to discuss the story).
So here I got selected and then the SSB fight for the next 5 days.
ssb bhopal
The PPDT (psychological and word test) I handled it with the same strategy. The word test is something where one can even write phrases, for example, the word truth- I wrote truth always triumphs, blood- blood bridges the gap between life and death. The situation reaction test is something where one has to be very genuine. For example- A person lying in a road with his bike (clearly indicating an accident ) and u are going office- Reaction- I would dial the ambulance and if at that time no one is attending the man then I would take the man, so it is pretty simple and honest answer. Honesty is always appreciated.

Now GTO is something which I would like to discuss, the knowledge from the SSB books really helped a lot. In the full group task one barely manages to show skills, so half group task is where things become clearer and then the Individual obstacle task & Commander Task (where u get opportunity as a single entity to showcase your skills ). In the individual obstacle task, only the strategy of choice is tested that how well u cover the all the obstacles in minimum time. PS- One need not cover all the obstacles, for example I did only 8 out of 10, but I chose to do all the task which had a higher weighting of points and were somewhat energy consuming like ropewalk, jumps , rope crawl down, pit jump etc. After all this there comes a task where a problem statement is given, one has to write a solution and then discuss it in the group. Here is where the book knowledge helped me.
Let me give an example- The NCC group had to go for a fire shooting festival, on its way they met goons harassing a poor man, another person had an accident and some other stuff. Here as we observe there are 3 objectives, 1- save the poor man from goons 2- take the person who met with an accident 3- deal with the some other stuff, but the right answer is 4 objectives, 4th being the initial objective – going to the fire shooting festival. When I mentioned this point in the discussion it served like a game point. Slowly I was feeling more confident towards the recommendation.
Finally the interview which lasted for 51 minutes, was of the highest duration in mine batch. It was the best interview of mine life. I have observed one thing closely, the Interviewing officer closely observes your listening skills. For example as I entered and sat down he told me – “ I want to know about your schooling about your academics about your achievements about your extra circulars in college and your family background”.SO all this in a row one needs to remember and if u meet the order it’s a good point for you. Since it was a technical entry more question were from technical which I handled well . The next day being the big day “Conference Day”.
Results- Roll no call out going on, heart throbbing and then I heard – Roll no 746199 , chest no 18, Sajal Roy………and then the roar of clapping in the auditorium.
ssb bhopal recommended candidates
Medically I got unfit on crucial grounds leading to a permanent rejection. I am born without a gall bladder and some dental issues. But what I want to say to all others Is that when in the SSB center, be at your best attitude, a gentleman attitude and have respect for all, be it the man at the gate or the man at the mess. Have a feeling of being the best, being the confident man and that’s what makes the difference. After who doesn’t want a dedicated, passionate, intellectual person. And better be well acquainted with all current affairs before u reach ssb, like I follow some websites like nirdeshak.com and affairscloud.com. Better to be acquainted with the entire army history, the no of divisions and all and the awards and honors like Paramveer Chakra and Kirti Chakra.
Today I do not have the uniform and neither will I be able to join the defense again, but the amount of confidence the SSB recommendation has given me is out of the world.
On Sept 6, 2014: Our merit list was out where I got Rank 1 from Instrumentation Engineering and this is the batch of the Recommended candidates from our batch.
