National Defence Academy passing out parade was held on 29th Nov 2014. Gen Dalbir Singh, COAS reviewed the passing out parade of 127th Course of NDA at Pune. “The Nation reposes its trust on you” – COAS to Passing out Cadets of NDA. 355 cadets graduated from the Academy as they passed, including Ten cadets from Tajikistan and Five cadets from Afghanistan.

Why Repeaters Face Difficulty at SSB?

There are lot of myths in this regard and aspirants keep asking such questions to be specially the ones who lose the coveted tag of a fresher at SSB, but let me make you clear in the very beginning that the assessors don’t discriminate in the repeaters and fresher’s. Now a sudden argument will come stating then why the number of attempts and records are asked in PIQ. That’s just because to understand the psychology and the psychological game that a candidate can play at the centre. Also fresher’s and repeaters are separated so that it provides a fair amount of chance to the fresher’s who are supposedly going through the system for the very first time. Once the whole process is known and a person is aware of it by being the part of the assessment system they are called repeaters.

In order of knowing the system at SSB many of the repeater aspirants try to fool the system but in this process they forget that they are actually fooling themselves as personality hidden or modified at one place would be caught at the other place as several qualities are checked at multiple places through multiple assessors. Repeaters should try hard to improve the following:
  • Please remember that SSB is a personality assessment where only qualities are judged, so try to improve them.
  • Since repeaters know the system it does not add to any advantage as the ground tasks, pictures or say all other things are changed constantly. Even if not changed the same story if repeated might not help as with time your personality has got changed.
  • Don’t go to SSB in high frequency at very short intervals as personality change needs time and give yourself that time so that changes can be implemented. Else you will turn up increasing the number of attempts and it would not benefit in the long run.

  • Similarly give proper time for learning and improving yourself as it’s not a simple thing to change the personality. I receive multiple requests from aspirants when there SSB is 10-15 days far and they want to improve their personality. I could only ask them to prepare themselves as I don’t possess that magic wand or in that case anyone else who can improve it in short duration.
  • If you take advice from experts, remember that there should be sufficient time available for your interaction and query resolution and if feasible seek individual guidance so that your own personality is improved and that helps in long run.
  • I have already written on core aspects of personality which needs a lot of improvement as once that thing is done SSB is just a easy game to play. So preparation should be in line with personality innovation and improvement and not merely replicating things that are at SSB.

Body language and external personality is very important and I have dealt it in a separate article. CDS 1 2014 Merit List

CDS 1 2014 Merit List. UPSC.gov.in has published the CDS 1 2014 final merit list of candidates who have cleared the CDS 1 2014 written exam and SSB interview for IMA 138th, Flying(P) 197th and Indian Naval academy. The following are the lists, in order of merit of 238 candidates who have qualified on the basis of the results of the Combined Defence Services Examination (I)-2014 conducted by the Union Public Service Commission in February, 2014 and SSB interviews held by the Services Selection Board of the Ministry of Defence for admission to the 138th Course of Indian Military Academy, Dehradun; Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala and Air Force Academy, Hyderabad (Pre-Flying) Training Course i.e. 197th F(P) Course.

  • There are some common candidates in the three lists for various courses.
  • The number of vacancies, as intimated by the Government is 250 for Indian Military Academy [including 32 vacancies reserved for NCC ‘C’ Certificate (Army Wing) holders], 40 for Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala – [ Hydro/ Executive General Service] including 06 vacancies reserved for NCC ‘C’ Certificate (Naval Wing) holders] and 32 for Air Force Academy, Hyderabad.
  • The Commission had recommended 5480, 2855 and 614 as qualified in the written test for admission to the Indian Military Academy/ Indian Naval Academy and Air Force Academy respectively. The number of candidates finally qualified are those after SSB testing conducted by Army Head Quarters.
  • The results of Medical examination have not been taken into account in preparing these lists.
  • Verification of date of birth and educational qualifications of these candidates is still under process by the Army Headquarters. The candidature of all these candidates is, therefore, Provisional on this score. Candidates are requested to forward their certificates, in original, in support of Date of Birth/Educational qualification etc., certificates claimed by them, along with Photostat attested copies thereof to Army Headquarters/Naval
  • Headquarters/Air Headquarters, as per their first choice.

  • In case, there is any change of address, the candidates are advised to promptly intimate directly to the Army Headquarters/Naval Headquarters/Air Headquarters.
  • These results will also be available on the UPSC website at www.upsc.gov.in However, marks of the candidates will be available on the website after completion of its complete process i.e. after declaration of final result of Officers’ Training Academy (OTA) for Combined Defence Services Examination (I)-2014.

Your life is in your hand and it perfectly moves the way you wanted. The said luck factor or the noise as we call it in management language does not play a major role in life. Things and your life are shaped in a way you want and you are the one who can work for it. Life is a blend of success and failures and there is no one who has always seen success and no failure in life. Failing is also compulsory and it only motivates to perform better learning from the mistakes that have been made. A person improves a lot by learning from his failures. Similarly loosing exam by an inch should not lead to any trauma. It’s just that you did not performed well and every exam looks for the best. There is always a next chance.

SSB is one such exam where they look for a perfect job fit in the industry and no relaxation is given in this regard because of the nature of job. My mentees always ask me that I could not understand why I failed when I performed things all right. And to my surprise when I analyse individually their stories or sentences I find they have written flashy things. Please remember that psychology round at SSB is not a story writing competition where writing good English will solve the purpose. You have to write things understanding your personality. Please remember the following:
  • Representing your OLQ’s is necessary and it’s the work of psychologist to extract that. You need not insert things necessarily.
  • I have seen my mentees introducing extra characters, things that are not even required. I don’t know where they get these things from.
  • Each given picture has a hidden meaning and those 30 seconds given to analyse a picture are very crucial to understand that meaning. Once that is done nothing is mystery.
  • But in actual what happens is that people ask me to suggest a good book or a page where they can have ready made solutions. I don’t understand how stories written by others can fit their personality.
  • Self-introspection is never done by the youth these days and they want ready-made preparation that actually might cause a disaster. Learning common things in large groups is also not needed.
  • Either introspect yourself and apply change to your personality or look for some expert who can take care of you individually for personality improvement.

Territorial Army Notification 2016 and Exam Date

Applications are invited from gainfully employed young men for an opportunity of donning the uniform and serving the nation as Territorial Army Officers, based on the concept of enabling motivated young men to serve in a military environment without having to sacrifice their primary professions. You can serve the nation in two capacities – as a civilian and as a soldier. No other option allows you such an expanse of experiences.

CONDITIONS OF ELIGIBILITY :

(a) Nationality: Only male Indian citizens of India.
(b) Age Limits: 18 to 42 years on the date of application.
(c) Educational Qualifications : Graduate from any recognized university.
(d) Physical Standards : A candidate must be physically and medically fit in all respects.
(e) Employment : Gainfully Employed.
Note : Serving member of the Regular Army/ Navy/ Air Force/ Police/GREF/ Para Military and like forces are not eligible.

DATE OF WRITTEN EXAMINATION : 31 July 2016.

LAST DATE OF RECEIPT OF APPLICATION : Application form completed in all respects will be accepted till 30 June 2016 at respective Territorial Army Group Headquarters. The date of holding the examination as mentioned above is liable to be changed at the discretion of the competent authority.

STANDARD AND SYLLABUS OF THE EXAMINATION : Read here

Candidates to ensure their eligibility for the examination : The candidates applying for the examination should ensure that they fulfill all eligibility conditions for admission to the Examination. Their admission at all the stages of the examination will be purely provisional subject to satisfying the prescribed eligibility conditions.Mere issue of Admission certificate to the candidate will not imply that his candidature has been finally cleared by the competent authority.

  • Time : Maximum time for each paper is 02 hrs and will be conducted in two sessions.
  • Type of Exam : Objective (OMR Answer Sheet will be used).
  • Qualifying Marks : Minimum 40% marks in each part of the paper separately and overall average of 50%.

PENALTY FOR WRONG ANSWERS : Candidates should note that there will be penalty (Negative Marking) for wrong answers marked by a candidate in the Objective Type Question Papers.

HOW TO APPLY. All desirous civilian candidates can obtain Application Form from Employment News or download from www.indianarmy.nic.in (FREE OF COST) and send it alongwith self addressed envelope (28 x12 cms) with postal stamps affixed worth Rs. 27/- and two passport size photographs (No other cost for submission) to the respective Territorial Army Group Headquarters as per the choice of following examination centres.

NO OTHER DOCUMENTS TO BE ATTACHED WITH APPLICATION FORM. CENTRES OF EXAMINATION :TA Exam

  • Candidates should note that no request for change of centre will be granted.
  • While filling in Application Form, the candidates should carefully decide about choice for the centre for the examination.
  • The eligible candidates shall be issued an Admit Card and will be sent by post by the respective Territorial Army Group Headquarters.

SELECTION PROCEDURE :

  • Candidates whose application forms are found correct will be called for screening (written exam followed by interview only if passed in written exam) by a Preliminary Interview Board (PIB) by the respective Territorial Army Group Headquarters.
  • Successful candidates will further undergo tests at a Service Selection Board (SSB) and Medical Board for final selection.

EMBODIMENT FOR TRAINING:

  • One month basic training in the first year of commission.
  • Two months annual training camp every year including the first year.
  • Three months Post Commissioning training within first two years at IMA, Dehradun.

Candidate who qualify in written test of Preliminary Interview Board are required to bring the following documents in original alongwith attested copies at the time of Preliminary Interview Board:

(a)  All educational qualification certificates (Matric onwards).

(b)  Latest physical fitness certificate from a registered MBBS Doctor.

(c) Copy of Identity proof with photographs (Voter ID/PAN Card/Passport/Driving license etc).

(d)  Domicile/ Residential proof.

(e)  Certificate for proof of age (Matric/ Senior Secondary mark sheet & certificate for verification of date of birth).

(f) Service certificate by candidates employed in Central Govt/ Union Territory/ State/Semi Govt/ Private Sector Authenticated by Head Office alongwith No Objection Certificate by the department as per format given below.

(g) Self employed candidates are required to submit an Affidavit on Non-Judicial stamp paper of minimum value duly attested stating nature of employment and annual income alongwith photocopy of PAN card and self certified character certificate.

(h) Candidates whose names vary in documents should submit copy of Gazette notification of India/ State showing the correct name or an affidavit duly supported by newspaper cuttings.

(j) Employees of Railways are required to submit No Objection Certificate authenticated by Railway Board.

Be a Team Player to Excel at SSB Interview

There are numerous situations in life where you have to take control of different people along with yourself. I am not talking of parenting or taking care of dependents. I am talking of taking responsibilities of those who are not related to you anyhow. Who are not having any blood relation nor share anything with you.  Today’s era is the era where working in isolation is not possible. Though it’s an era of nuclear families on one hand but when the same person goes to the organisation he tends to be with people, he works as a team member.

The irrelevance of thought is that a person cannot entertain his family members but is ready to work along with people not related in blood.  But this is the need of time. All organisations prefer people having quality of team work. You should have this quality if you are a defence aspirant. I know you will shout loud that I have the quality of finishing all work alone but when you are surrounded by lot of people or say enemies, will you be able to handle the situation. Will you not ask for help? Or take other situation where people are between gherao and you are asked to go and solve the situation. I know you will utilise you intelligence, but you are performing a team work activity. Working in teams always makes the work easy and it helps bringing out quality work from the individual.
Team work is the quality where you have to gel along with people. Helping in team, helping people, utilising your capability, to solve the problem of others while utilising your knowledge for the benefit for others. Though you will ask at the end that will get the credit. How will I claim that I am efficient enough to handle the situation? Don’t worry; you will get the due credit. How will being a team player help:
  • Everyone will be ready to work for you and this quality is looked at SSB because you need to work in large teams.
  • Work handling is made easy and life seems easy even if tough situations.
  • Many rounds at SSB judge this quality of a person where he or she needs to excel. All group activity has this competency mapped to it.
  • Aspirants are requested to perform best in individual rounds where they are under observation but contributions in team rounds also count. So balance the act.

And there are lot of other things to prove your mettle. Anyways start doing welfare of others and see the magic how people are ready to help you in adverse situation. We had a chance to interview Komal Pahuja who have been selected for Indian Air Force officer cadre, she got recommended from 4 AFSB Varanasi and here she is talking to us sharing her best moment of life. Appearing candidates can follow her interview and gain some knowledge about the AFSB interview process and how one should plan to achieve success in a defence interview.
Q. What motivated you to join Indian Air Force?
Komal: It was very spontaneous the moment I entered to give my written exam at Air Force Station Bareilly that was the first time I saw the uniform of  IAF “The Blues” J And I guess that uniform thing was the soul motivator. Infact, written exam too wasn’t intended, it was all unplanned. But after that no doubt it was all IAF day and night.

Q. Which attempt this was? What special preparations did you for SSB?
Komal: Yeah, this was my first attempt. I got the result of the written one when my B.Com exams were there. So, it was a bit difficult for me at that time to focus upon my Final Year exams though I was all into IAF. Thus in the meantime, I accessed internet and come to know what SSB is actually. Apart from that I joined various groups on fb of SSB and found other aspirants too who helped me up in knowing the process.

Q. Did you join any coaching? And do you think coaching helps in cracking SSB?
Komal: Well, yes I joined Olive Greens, Chandigarh. As I said I almost came to know everything through internet about SSB especially the website SSBCrack.com helped me a lot but still there is a huge difference between theoretical and practical approach especially an Aspirant likes me who just saw the uniform got motivated and apart from that knew nothing about IAF and didn’t know even the ABC of defense it wouldn’t have been possible without the guidance. I won’t term Olive Greens as Coaching I would rather term it as a Training Institute. I owe a big thanks to the teachers (Chahal sir, Ashokan sir, Vijay sir) who guided me. And well according to me no doubt the Training Programs help an aspirant especially if he/she is a fresher and if repeater then they can analyze it on their own because they know about the whole process then too they can seek guidance after all there is no harm in it.

Q. What was your special success mantra?
Komal: Well success mantra is all about what my teachers told me. I read news papers and watched news which helped me up in the GD in GTO and PI too. Apart from that I also started jogging which gave me a peace of mind and fresh energy. I used to listen to songs full of motivation ( Lakshya, Tu dhoop hai, hall of Fame etc etc). I analyzed all my weaknesses, strengths and rest other things beforehand and I also went through the basic terminologies of my stream as I’m a Commerce Graduate for my PI.

Q. Tell us something about your personal interview?
Komal: PI huhh, so much stressed I was before PI that too just because I was Chest Number 1 :p and the bad thing was we were called randomly that was the time I wanted to go First so that I get rid of all the anxiety and stress. The moment I was called for PI I stood up I wished luck to myself I still am thinking that where all that stress and anxiety vanished 😀 Maybe my Confidence overpowered all that stress and I was very normal wished my IO a Good Morning and then the Interview lasted for 1hr 15mins all with a smile and confidence. There were moments when I and my IO we both were laughing. I didn’t even come to know how the time passed I even wanted to get more of PI 😉
Most amazing thing was my PI was conducted by the 4 AFSB Board President.

Q. How was your board conference?
Komal: Being, Chest Number 1 I had to enter First in the Conference Room. The moment I entered I saw around 25-30 Officers were sitting in a semi circled position. I wished Morning and sat firmly on my seat. Conference lasted for merely 15-16 secs in which three questions were asked
  • How was your stay?
  • What is the first thing that caught your eye?
  • Any suggestions you would like to give?
Q. Do you think that the group affects your chances for success? How was your group in the SSB?
Komal: According to me group matters the most in the Ground Task because in Psyche and PI you have to do things on your own. But in GT it is all about your bonding with the group whether others allow you to work or not. And my Group was the Best Group we were 8 girls all freshers, all from different places and most importantly we had a very good bonding with each other. Then too in GT apart from being friendly you have to be diplomatic too so that you may not lose the opportunity but make sure that you help all other members too GT is all about the “GROUP EFFORTS”. So never have a selfish approach.

Q. What was your favorite task in the SSB?
Komal: Umm, I loved all the three I actually enjoyed each and every task. I wasn’t performing it as it is a kind of exam rather I was loving and enjoying everything and I guess that was the thing which helped me up somewhere in the whole process. Still if I’ve to choose one then I’ll go with the GT as there we get a mixture of everything.

Q. In which test in SSB do you think you performed the best?
Komal: Undoubtedly, I performed best at GT. I initiated the GDs, in GPE I was able to write a complete story with good means, PGT 65-70% were my ideas from the group, HGT- I gave opportunity to others, Lecturette- I spoke with confidence and smile with some gestures, Command Task- we were 8 and I was called 5 times as sub-ordinate and apart from that I finished my Command Task in spite of the difficulties given up by my GTO, FGT- we were all Co-ordinating and finished it.

Q. How did you prepare for the Psychological Testing?
Komal: I prepared for the Blank story that was also a real story from my life. I prepared WATs and SDs beforehand and except this I visited SSBCrack.com and got various pictures and used to prepare it for TATs .

Q. Tips for Other candidates?
Komal: I’ll just say one word “CONFIDENCE”. If you have this in you, you can do anything and no one will stop you. Have faith in your abilities and go with excitement, happiness and with a positive energy and you will surely get all the things back after the Six days. I didn’t think SSB as my exam I enjoyed all the six days to the fullest and now I came to know why people call the SSB to be Best Days of their Life. In my case it was all my liveliness and confidence. If you aren’t good at GK don’t worry just have an overview of current happenings that is it. I too am not at all good at it.
All that matter is your personality and how you present and define yourself.
And the most important thing is never go into SSB by thinking about the Result from the First day because then Anxiety won’t allow you to do anything. Just give your Best and leave Rest upon God.

GD Topic Series: NOTA as a Voting Option

After a lot many controversies caused by Bandh and other forms of action taken by the socialist activists finally NOTAas a option of voting was introduced by the election commission in elections. NOTAstand for none of the above and is an option which allows a perfect democratic form of rejecting all the candidates that are standing in a constituency. Indian politics has its own legacy which is not hidden from anyone of us.  Aspirants are expected to have proper understanding of the Indian politics so that few examples could be given related to the criminals and uneducated people who stand in election and even win elections. There have been few people who play with the legacy and the system of the place, get votes by illegal means.

NOTA as a system of voting helps a voter experience his/her rejection right where any person standing in election can be rejected and if NOTA count exceeds the count of all the candidates standing for a constituency then there would be a provision of re-election. It has been long that this option has been introduced but it’s still a big question that the Indian people do not understand its importance because of the dynamics that plays its role in an election. Still 30-40 percent people don’t know the utility of this option and select people based on cast, creed and colour. The roots are deep into the system and would definitely take time to be removed when India too will have fair and fine politics and safe elections. Many incidents of attack, booth capturing are still common to hear though EC works hard to prevent and deploys a lot of force. Advantages of NOTA are:
  • Rejection right is practiced if no candidate is felt suitable.
  • You should understand the background of person and then only vote. Earlier when NOTA were not there this was not at all the possibility.
  • We as youth have responsibility on our shoulders to spread awareness and spread the message in rural India.
  • This option will promote right people standing in a constituency.

These are some of the facts that can be presented in topics of this genre. Also the topics should be linked with various other Indian scenarios and many examples could be cited. To start a GD series of this sort is to provide aspirants an idea of regulating facts in a nutshell and suggest how topics can be handled. Suggestions can be given to me about the need of discussion of other such topics also. Also work hard for your goal and achieve it at any cost. But you have to work hard for it and become perfect. Hope these are some of the useful points that I use and have experienced in life. They really helped me achieve a lot and push back big difficulties. NCC 37 Eligibility Criteria

  • Age: For NCC candidates (including wards of Battle Causalities) 19 to 25 years.
  • Educational Qualification: Degree of a recognised university or equivalent with aggregate of minimum 50% marks taking into account marks of all the years. Those studying in third year are also allowed to apply provided they have secured minimum 50% aggregate marks in the first two years.
  • Service in NCC : Should have served for minimum two academic years in the senior Division/Wing of N.C.C.
  • Grading: Should have obtained minimum of ‘B’ Grade in ‘C’ Cer tificate Exam of NCC.

Army Education Corps Notification July 2015. Indian Army has invited the applications for Army Education Corps, from eligible Male candidates. The candidates, if selected will be granted a permanent commission in the Indian Army. The training is due to commence in July, in Indian Military Academy, Dehradun.

  • Start of receipt of Online Application: 1st December, 10 AM onwards
  • Last date to apply online: 31st December, up till 5 PM.

Army Education Corps Eligibility Criteria’s

  • Nationality: A candidate must either be : (i) A citizen of India, or (ii) A subject of Bhutan, or (iii) A subject of Nepal, or (iv) a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before the 1st of January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India or (v) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka and East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire and Ethopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India. Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (ii), (iii), (iv) and (v) above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by Government of India. Certificate of eligibility will however not be necessary in the case of candidates who are Gorkha subjects of Nepal.
  • Age Limit: 23 to 27 years at the time of commencement of course. (Candidates born between 02 Jul 88 and 01 Jul 92 (both dates inclusive). The date of birth accepted by the office is that entered in the Matriculation or an equivalent examination certificate.( No other document relating to age will be accepted and no subsequent request for its change will be considered or granted.)
  • Educational Qualification: Only those candidates who have passed Post Graduate Degree MA/M.Sc in the following subjects /M.Com/MCA/MBA with 1st or 2nd Division.

Army Education Corps How to Apply

  • Applications will only be accepted online on website “www.joinindianarmy.nic.in”. Click on Officer Menu then go to How to Apply and then click ONLINE APPLICATION. Fill the online registration form. Note down the user id and password. Tips to assist in filling up fields have been provided as you click on ONLINE APPLICATION. Before submitting the application check the entries made and save the application. After submitting, take two copies of the printout and the Roll Number generated by the system.
  • The second copy of the printout of online application is to be retained by the candidate for his reference. No need to send any hard copy to DG Recruiting.
  • Candidates must submit only one application. Receipt of multiple applications from the same candidate will result in cancellation of candidature.

Army Education Corps Selection procedure

  • The applications will be shortlisted by Integrated HQ of MoD(Army), and a cutoff percentage will be decided, based on the applications received.
  • The candidates having percentage above the cut off will be called for SSB Interview. (Around in April 2015)
  • The recommended candidates will be sent for the medical examination
  • The final merit list will decide the final selection.
