Different Categories of Candidates in SSB Interview

0

It is seen that many candidates are confused about the category in which they fall while they go for SSB. Although many do have idea that what their category is yet they are confused on some or the other aspect of their category. Hence, this article aims at clearing all your doubts regarding the same.

Fresher Candidate at SSB

When you say that you are a fresher it means you have never been through the process of SSB. Here one thing to note is that when you are a fresher then it means that you have never visited any board ever. That means you never been to any of the SSB of Army, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard. When you are a fresher you are asked and grouped separately in a different group which generally consists of all fresher candidates, however at times you might be grouped with repeaters also but this is very rare and happens only when there are not enough fresher candidates to make a group.

ssbinterviewbook

Screen Out Candidate at SSB

This category is for those candidates who have been to the SSB previously for any of the four services and were eliminated after Stage One testing itself. Only those candidates who were eliminated in the first stage and have never been through the stage two testing are called the screen out candidates. These candidates are grouped in a different group at the time of stage one testing in which only screened out candidates are placed. However once the screened out candidate clears the stage one testing he/she might be placed with the freshers only for stage two testing as they are also new to the stage two testing just like freshers.

Not Recommended Candidates at SSB

Here one thing to note is that in SSB they prefer calling not recommended instead of conference out. This is the category of those candidates who cleared Stage one and have been through stage two testing but couldn’t make it to the final recommendation. Thus they have been through the six day procedure and were not selected in the end. These candidates are generally placed in a separate group. You will be called a not recommended candidate even if you are going for a service for the first time but have been to other service’s SSB before and have been through stage two.

Different Categories of Candidates in SSB

Recommended Candidate at SSB

These candidates are those who have been through stage one, stage two testing and were recommended by the board. You will be grouped with the not recommended candidates only.

Merit out Candidate at SSB

These are the candidates who were recommended but couldn’t make it in the final all India merit and thus couldn’t join the course for which they were recommended.  They are also placed with the not recommended candidates.

Few more points:

  1. Once you have been through stage two testing you are called a repeater. Thus irrespective of the fact that you are not recommended, recommended, or merit out you’ll be termed as a repeater only.
  2. If you have been through stage two testing but in your previous attempt you were screened out then too you will be placed with repeaters and NOT with the screened-out candidates.

“Just keep on chasing your Dreams, Dreams do come true”  Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar. Hello to all defense aspirants. I am Arpit Shukla, Recommended for the Indian Navy in 9th attempt. Thanks to the almighty God, my parents and my friends. The above mentioned quote by the legendary Cricketer always keeps pushing me towards my goal. My Journey towards joining Indian Armed Forces was a bumpy ride. I always wanted to join the forces through NDA but my parents didn’t allow me. I joined SRM University after 12th and pursued my graduation in Computer Science and Engineering branch. Very Soon I realized that this is not my thing .I am not made for this. I tried for Army through UES entry but couldn’t attend SSB because of the semesters.

In few months, Placements started and I got placed in TCS. I gave the CDSE examination and was called for the SSB. To my Bad Luck, SSB date and TCS joining date clashed and I joined TCS. Finally I got my first chance to attend SSB for NAVY in Bangalore for SSC (PILOT). I did my preparations but those were not enough and I got conference out. Then it was SSC (LOG) entry for Navy in BHOPAL, to my surprise I got screened out. Frustration started building up. I went to Bangalore for SSC (GS{X}). I was fully prepared and did lot of practice. My conference went well and I was very sure that I will be recommended. Again, results were shocking. Only 1 candidate was selected. The results shattered me completely. Only good thing about that SSB was I made some good friends (Sheel, Vikrant, Amarendra, Karthik,). I was disappointed, but gathered all my courage and went to Allahabad for SSC T -41. Result was again conferenced out. I came back to Pune and concentrated on my job. Within few months I got call from Air force to attend AFSB at Mysore. Results were the same, I was Conferenced Out.

Recommended for Indian Navy in 9th Attempt
I thought that nothing can be worse and frustrating than this. I started feeling that “Do I have it in me”? Let me tell you, till now it was my best part. Worse was yet to come. My three SSB were lined up in Bhopal. PC (LOG) for Navy, SSC NT (99) and SSC T-42 for Army. I got screened out in all three SSB’s. I was deeply disheartened with my performance and I started questioning myself “Will I ever make it into the armed forces”? I started facing problems in my job. My manager’s were very unhappy and they asked me to leave the project.  I was feeling helpless and frustrated.

I got mail from Navy to attend SSB for SSC (GS{X}) on 12th February, 2014. The SSB was again in

Recommended for Indian Navy in 9th Attempt

BHOPAL. I said to myself” Fhirse BHOPAL hi kyun Yaar”. May be my destiny was written here only. 182 people came to attend the SSB. Screening test took place and I finally got Screened-In in BHOPAL. I was very happy. Along with me 46 other candidates also made in to the Phase 2 of the testing. My Psychological tests went good. I was scheduled for interview the next day after the GTO tasks. I gave my ideas to the group and most of them worked. GTO performance raised my moral and I went for the Interview. This was the first interview where I faced 8-9 Rapid fire questions. I memorized the sequence and gave correct answers confidently. Interviewer asked me questions on various topics apart from PIQ form, such as questions related to Indian Navy, National and International News, Syria Crisis, Things happening in Egypt, Somalia, Thailand and Ukraine. I gave confident answers in all the topics except for the Ukraine issue. With my experience, I can tell, you should never frame answers there. If you know, speak out; otherwise politely say “Sorry Sir, I don’t know about this. I will definitely search about this topic”. So, the interview was good and I was filled with positive vibes. The GTO Day 2 was full of excitement. I was called second last for the command task and was given a medium level obstacle. Luckily ideas clicked and I did the task within minutes. Finally the Big day came, The Conference Day. We wished each other good luck and went for the conference. I was made to wait outside the conference room at least 10 minutes. Several thoughts came in my mind and I was pretty sure that I will face SRT inside. Same thing happened, apart from the usual questions, 5 SRT’s were asked. I answered them confidently. President of the selection board kept on removing resources and I kept on utilizing the resources which I still have. I was very happy with my performance. My conference was about 25 minutes.

Finally the officer came in with the results and he announced “Chest number 27”. I got up and everyone clapped. This was the happiest moment of my life. I was the only one recommended out of the 182 candidates. Tears rolled down and I felt like, I conquered the world. This is what I dreamt off, had many sleepless nights thinking what I was doing wrong in previous attempts. And today I can proudly say “YES, I have it in me.”
My only suggestion to all defense aspirants is, NEVER EVER GIVE UP. Try to explore yourself, try to find out the shortcomings in you and Practice the TAT’s, WAT’s and SRT’s to match your timings. Frustration comes when expectations doesn’t meet, but don’t let this frustration hamper your performance. Go with the same enthusiasm as you went for the first SSB. For Fresher’s, prepare well and come for the SSB because it’s your golden chance ( Aisa Mauka Fhir Nahi Milega – IPL Tadka). For Repeater’s (my loved brothers), don’t lose hope, keep trying. I have seen many aspirants saying” Ab nahi aaunga SSB dene kabhi”. If you really want to join the forces, introspect yourself, practice the tests at home and come with full confidence to attend the SSB interview and I am sure the results will turn out in your favour.
I wish you all Good Luck and may you all join the Indian Armed Forces and serve the country with Dignity and Honour. You can always reach me on [email protected] for any questions and queries regarding SSB.
DSC 0612 1 About Arpit Shukla: I am Arpit Shukla basically from Lucknow. I got recommended for Indian Navy in 9th attempt from 33 SSB board, Bhopal.

Recommended in 3rd Attempt From Allahabad

7

So there I was again with my suitcase and ironed formal shirt standing in-front of Allahabad railway station ‘again’ for Indian Army SSB. This time it was TGC-119. Unlike the previous SSB i.e. STL-42 which took place in January, the climatic conditions have changed a lot by now and so has my never-give-up attitude.

Day-1:

Screening test took place around 0800 hrs. It consists of 2 stages.
A. OLQ test.
Tips: Don’t bluff answers in OLQ answer sheet. try to attempt maximum questions. skip the question if you think they’ll consume time for calculations.
B. PP-DT (picture perception & Description Test)
PP-DT is all about perception. Try to make a story which is practical and believable. In the story add officer like personality characters that are within you or you want to have.
After the PP-DT exam, they generally give you break for few minutes. Utilise this break to rehearse your PP-DT story (mentally) because what comes next after PP-DT is Group Discussion of the story you’ve written.
Tips: You’ll be given hardly 1 min to narrate your story. Be loud and clear and confident enough so everybody can listen to it. Don’t stumble or fumble yourself with complicated English words.
During GD, try to help group members come to a conclusion rather pointing out mistakes or proving your story.
Recommended in 3rd Attempt From Allahabad

Results came out and almost 80% were screened out.
Out of our 296 , we’re left 40 for Day-2.
Filling up forms starts next with certificate verification and all.
PIQ- personal info. questionnaire is very important. Be precise and remember what you write in as your hobby/interests/sports/achievements as they will be asked to you in your interview. Don’t fake or lie.
You’re there to become an Indian Army officer, so from here on behave as one.
Have a healthy friendship with all and respect everyone for their spirit to serve the country.
Day-2:
Be focused because its psych test day. WAT, TAT, SRT and all are very important.
WAT- it’s never about attending all 60 words nor its about using the word in your sentence.
Write the thought that comes to your mind when you see the word. Be honest. Keep the sequence correct in case you miss any word.
SRT- your reactions should be more like taking actions rather handling the responsibility to someone else here. Be in the situation and take control of it.
TAT- perceive positive and write it down showing few Officer like qualities. End it in a positive note.
Self Description- Be honest and write stuffs about you in clear hand writing. Do a self-introspection about yourself. Ask your friends, family about you as a person and qualities they like or dislike.
Day-3:
GD/ Lecturette /PGT:
GD- the GD topics are usually current affairs and well known topics. ex. Indo-china, Indo-pak, India’s military expenses, education, government policy etc.. Be active in discussions, don’t sit idle or be scared what others will think. Fact is if you don’t, you will lose the battle.
Lecturette- choose topic which you’re comfortable with and have enough points to speak for 3 min. A bit of hand gestures are good but don’t over-do it.
PGT- Portray your ideas clearly and make sure everyone is listening to you. This shows command. be active.
Day-4:
IO/Command Task/HGT/FGT:
Individual Obstacle: it’s all about checking the basic body fitness.
CT- command task is vital. Before acting on the situation, as a commander take a pause and look around the obstacle and think of possible ideas. Don’t just jump into the field with phatta and balli or load.
HGT- While the entire group is fighting over a path, take a break and look around the other paths available. You might just find the easiest way out.
FGT- Same as above.
Interview:
The interview went for about 1 hour or so. As I was from B. Tech-(EEE), a few technical questions were also asked to me. Apart from that, basic current affairs and general knowledge were also asked. Few of them were about our neighboring countries. They want to know what kind of a person you’re and want to be. They will ask questions regarding family, friends and enemies, girlfriends. Be honest and tell them what’s true. Sometimes the questions become personal, so don’t hesitate to speak the truth or hide anything. Be honest always and open minded. They are not sitting there to judge you by any means. Have an insight about Army, Navy & Air force.
Keep a track on you postures and gestures, body language. Think of at least 3 positive and 3 negative qualities in you. When asked about negative qualities.
Conference- Be cool and relaxed. At times they ask you questions which they asked you in your interview and you failed to answer. So prepare the answers beforehand.
Results- Out of 40, 3 were recommended from 34 SSB board for medicals.
Always have a fighting spirit. My rejection in my previous SSB made me prepare more hard and improve in stages where I lack. I kept a note in my pocket with a list in it, jotted down the possible mistakes I might have made in my previous SSB.
Self-introspection had a big help to me. Unless and until you don’t accept your fault you cannot rectify it and move ahead.
Think of it like this, getting a job in a field (armed forces) which gets the highest respect in the country or world, can’t possibly come to oneself so easily. In order to get it, handwork and dedication is inevitable.
Never lose hope and quit, trust me I have done that mistake.
“Growth is painful. Change is painful. But nothing is as painful as staying stuck somewhere you don’t belong”

Special Forces of the Army Navy and Air Force

2
Garud Commando Indian Air Force

The Special Forces of the tri-services are specialized units of the Army Navy or Air Force for specialized operations. They are trained for different types of operations and generally the training is very tough. These special force personnel are very efficient and have great efficiency in completing the operations. So here are the special forces of the tri-services:

Special Forces of the Army Navy and Air Force

Para Commandos

  1. Para Commandos: They are the special force unit of the Indian Army and are trained for special operation missions like special operations, Direct action, Hostage rescue, Counter-terrorism, Unconventional warfare, Special reconnaissance, Foreign internal Defense, Personnel recovery, Asymmetric warfare, Counter-proliferation, Counter Insurgency etc. They were formed on 1 July 1966 and are the most important part of Special Forces of India. They are a part of the highly trained Parachute Regiment of the Indian Army and, generally, all the Para-Commando personnel are selected from it. Because of its specified role, the regiment needs to be kept at optimum level of operational efficiency and physical fitness. The strength is of 7 battalions currently and the regiment center is in Bangalore, Karnataka. Their Motto is “Men apart every man an emperor”. Their identification symbol is Maroon Beret, shoulder titles, and the “Balidaan” badge(PARA SF).
  2. Garud Commando Force: The Garud Commando Force is the Special Forces unit of the Indian Air
    Garud Commando Force

Force. It was formed on 6th February 2004 and has strength of approximately 2000 personnel. The unit derives its name from Garuda, a divine bird-like creature of Hindu Mythology. Garud is tasked with the protection of critical Air Force bases and installations; search and rescue during peace and hostilities and disaster relief during calamities. Presently, Garud’s are deployed in Congo as part of the UN peace keeping operations. Their motto is प्रहार से सुरक्षा( Offence is the Best Form of Defense). Their identification symbol is that the Garud airman wear the “Airman Beret Badge” on the cap. They are also parachute trained, and wear the Operational Paratroopers Brevet above the right pocket. The “Garud Force Patch” can be seen worn on the sleeve and a Garud Winged Badge which is gold in color and worn on the left chest, similar to where pilot/aircrew wings are worn. The Garuds are also entitled to wear “IAF GARUD” titles on the sleeves.

  3. MARCOS: Marine Commandos Force (MCF previously) or the MARCOS are the special force
    MARCOS

unit of the Indian Navy. They were created for conducting special operations such as Amphibious warfare, Counter-terrorism, Direct action, Special reconnaissance, Unconventional warfare, hostage rescue, Personnel recovery, Asymmetric warfare, Counter proliferation. The MARCOS are capable of undertaking operations in all types of terrain, but are specialized in maritime operations in Jammu and Kashmir through the Jhelum River and Wular Lake, a 65 square kilometer freshwater lake. Some MARCOS personnel are also attached with the Army Special Forces units conducting counter-terrorism operations in the area. MARCOS are widely feared among the terrorists, who call them “Dadiwala fauj”, meaning the “Bearded army” because of their bearded disguise in civil areas. MARCOS have also been known to carry out wide variety of operations in foreign soil. They were raised on 14th February 1987. Their motto is “The few the fearless” and their nickname is “Magarmach”  (Crocodile). Their strength is not disclosed. They operate from the bases of Mumbai, Visakhapatnam, Goa, Kochi and Port Blair. They are one of most efficient part of the Indian Special Forces and are highly feared in enemies.

2 AFSB Mysore Interview Experience

Hi everyone, this piece of blog is about my experience at 2 AFSB Mysore for AFCAT 2 2013 entry. I cannot explain how great experience it was but yes indeed it was an experience of lifetime. I chose 18th November 2013 as my date for AFSB, as I live in Hyderabad it was an overnight journey by bus, so I took a bus and reached Mysore on 17th November morning, took a room for my stay and went outside to visit some famous places in Mysore, it’s indeed a very clean city with lots of places to visit like Mysore Palace, Chamundi Temple etc.

DAY 1 AFSB Interview

Next day i.e 18th November I reached the railway station at 6:30 a.m. There was a huge line of people standing for boarding the Air Force Bus, some were in formals some were in casuals, but I think dressing doesn’t matter much till screening. We were about 180 people in total .We needed to show our call up letter before boarding the bus. After reaching the AFSB we all kept our luggage at one place and took out our documents, went to testing hall and were briefed about the procedure for that day and filled the given documents.

2 AFSB Mysore Interview Experience

After that we were told about the OIR [Officer Intelligent Rating] test, it was just a simple test divided in two parts, having 50 questions each and the time allotted was approximately half an hour each. I think this test does not play a significant role in screening but may be marks of this test are counted while preparing the merit list therefore give your best.
After that we were briefed about PPDT[Picture Perception and Discussion Test], a hazy picture was shown for about 30 seconds and in the next 1 minute we had to write mood, age, sex of the identified characters and what we see that is going on in the given picture in the ABOUT section, so considering you have 1 minute you have to write everything to the point, you don’t have to write anything elaborate in the ABOUT section. After that you are given 4 minutes to write the story, so considering the shown picture make it as a frame of your story and mentioning past, present and future with some hero in the story doing an act which is benefiting the society compile a story, it was my approach and it can certainly vary for every individual. This was followed by GD on the story we were a group of 15, we were given the chest numbers in the meanwhile. In the GD room there were 3 officers among them was our DSO also. We were then instructed to introduce ourselves, so while introducing try to address the group not the instructors. After that everybody is given approx. 60 seconds to tell their story to the group and immediately after that group discussion starts, so you should not wait for the instructor to give any intimidation about it. Mostly everybody in my group made a story on some natural disaster, mine was different from everybody so it was evident I couldn’t push my story, therefore I tried to help in deciding the checkpoints of the story, thankfully there was no fish market in our group may be because we were all fresher, I was able to speak logical points 3 to 4 times. 8 people were screened in from our group.
In all 60 people were screened in. After screening, document verification started, it is a tedious time consuming process. I was called and told that I did not have some documents therefore I was sent back on the same day. Although screened in but I was feeling screened out at that time. But the good part was that I was not alone, 10 guys were there with me for the same reason or the other. So I went back to Hyderabad on the same night. I got the required certificate from my college in some days and applied for a different date, I was given 13th January. I was considered as Stage 1 cleared candidate, therefore I was free on the first day, this time again they told me I needed 1 more certificate but DSO allowed me to go through the complete AFSB procedure by taking an undertaking from me. Do check if you have some spelling difference in your name or your parents name in certificates and admit card and get some affidavit accordingly.
This time in this batch 67 people were screened in counting me. After the Document Verification we were given PIQ forms to fill, this activity needs to be done with utmost care because interview may involve what you have written in PIQ and does that match with your responses. After this we were divided into groups of 8 and were directed towards the given room, soon after that everyone went for dinner. After the dinner there was a fall in call in which activities for the next day were told.

DAY 2 AFSB Interview

Next day after having breakfast we were called to testing wing around 7.30 am for PABT[Pilot Aptitude Battery Test]. First part of the test involved a written test in which an officer gave details about 6 instruments which indicated the altitude, speed, horizon, banking etc, tests are easy. If you clear the written test then there is a machine test in which there are two computer based games/exercises which checks your ability to handle machines and your reflexes. For each test 3 chances are given.
After this, everybody was called in the testing hall and instructions for psych tests were given. Psych evaluation included 4 tests:
  • TAT[Thematic Apperception Test]: Series of 12 pictures one after another were shown and last one was a blank slide. Pictures were shown for a duration of 30 seconds and there after 4 minutes were given to write a story. Same technique to be used as PPDT but you just need to write the story and not the mood, age etc, I tried to form stories which provided benefits more at societal level rather not at personal level.
  • WAT[Word Association Test]: 15 seconds for single word and in total 60 words will be shown one after another, you just need to write what comes to your mind first, after seeing the word. Make words which shows your awareness about current affairs, your positive attitude. As sentences are to be written on answer booklet 15 seconds are given after every 20 words for turning the page.
  • SRT[Situation Reaction Test]: It’s not important to complete all the SRT’s but it’s the quality of your response, you should cover the apt measures taken to tackle the situation and the future result. I did 38 out of 60 but certainly a lot more can be done in 30 minutes of time. Try to write feasible and intelligent solutions for the situations.
  • SD[Self Description]:  You have to write what your family, friends/colleagues, teachers/Managers think about you, what you think about yourself and what kind of person you want to become. Time allotted is 15 minutes. SD is also a very nice opportunity to show your personality to psychologist.
After Psych test we were taken for CPSS( I don’t remember the full form), it is a substitute for PABT. It’s a more regressive test, an aptitude test is held for the first phase which goes on for about 2-3 hours, it’s completely computerized test, instructions will be there and multiple choice questions would be there and you have to complete that in the time limit. As far as I remember 9 different types of test comprising of reading instruments, reading shapes, aptitude, logical reasoning etc were there.
2nd phase of test was machine test. Cockpit looking machines were there and 10 types of machine exercises/games were to be completed. 4 chances were allowed for each exercise to score maximum points. It was a fun activity but we were told that only PABT results will be considered for Flying branch, CPSS is being conducted for consensus.

DAY 3 AFSB Interview

From next day interviews and Ground Tasks were scheduled for all the groups. Half of our group was free

2 AFSB Mysore Interview Experience

and other half had interviews. Mine was scheduled in the first slot around 8 a.m. I got ready in my formal dress and reached the testing wing. I was instructed to wait outside the interviewer’s office in the waiting room, One officer took my certificates and after some time I was called inside the interviewer’s room, he asked me about my education, family background etc, as I was from tech background he was interested in my projects, favorite subjects etc, Keep in mind IO has the psych test results with him as I did less SRT’s he asked me different situations to know my reactions, he asked me about my hobbies which I mentioned in the PIQ and why I wanted to join defense services etc, luckily he didn’t ask anything from General Knowledge and overall interview was very good for me.

Later I came to know that my interviewer was President of the board.
Being confident and truthful will always result into a good interview, if you are not good at G.K or any other activity clearly mention it as Interview is an activity in which mostly you will speak so take it as an opportunity to show everything good and positive you have it in you and being weak in something is very normal but do show you are strong at various other activities. Try to have as much eye contact as possible that shows the confidence.
Rest of the day was free for all of us so we went to Mysore Palace in the evening and came back.

DAY 4 AFSB Interview

Next day remaining 4 of us had their interviews. After interviews and lunch we went to Chamundi Temple, it was around 15 kilometers away from the city. Direct bus transport was available, whole day we enjoyed and came back by the evening.

DAY 5 AFSB Interview

Next day we had our Group Tasks, GTO asked us to give brief discussion about ourselves, remember again address the group not the GTO.  Then he told us about the total number of activities that would be involved in complete group tasks.
Ground Tasks are all about the bonding you developed with your group mates in the past few days and nights, I think therefore GT starts from 3rd or 4th day, so try to communicate with others as much as possible because you will remember the experience you had with these friends you made and not the psych tests or Interview you gave (yes these tasks are important too but for me those friends made my experience awesome.)
First we had two GD’s, topics were:
Role of Indian Peace Keeping Forces.
Indian women in Private Organizations as there leaders.
GD’s went smooth, everyone got chance to speak their points, credits to the whole group. After that we moved to GPE[Group Planning Exercise], 4 problems were there, after writing our plan on given sheet we started the discussion and immediately decided the priorities of the problems. As it is natural to have different strategies to come to a solution, we as a group eventually concluded to give a final solution, I explained our final solution in the end.
After GPE we moved to PGT[Progressive Group Tasks]. There were 4 levels of obstacles in increasing difficulty level, time allotted was 45 minutes. Just try not to suppress solutions given by others, if you are not able to come up with an idea, help to implement the idea given by others. Here it is necessary to keep in mind that what you should NOT do. Try to make use of every helping material given, they are given just to check your ability to use them.
Then we moved to HGT[Half Group Task], one obstacle with time limit of 15 minutes was given, but now group strength is reduced to half so we had better chance to push and implement our idea.
Next task was Snake Race, you need to have a group war cry, ours was Vande Matram and we needed to carry a snake type object made of jute. There are 6 – 7 obstacle you need to cross and while crossing at least 3 people need to hold the snake. Generally there is no single winner in the race since GTO’s try to balance every team’s pace by imposing certain time penalties for any rule violation. Just keep in mind to sing you war cry and keep the group together.
Next task was Command Task. GTO called us 1 by 1 and asked to introduce our self, he may ask some questions, in my case he asked me about my job, salary, why I wanted to leave my job etc. After showing me the task he asked me to call subordinates [maximum 2], I called one subordinate and did the task, he gave me various conditions like if some support is painted yellow/red instead of white etc. Keep in mind do not keep ordering the subordinate what to do, help him while implementing your ideas, generally if GTO is varying the difficulty level for you than clearly he has strong expectations from you.
Remaining 3 tasks were Lecturette, Individual Obstacles and Final Group Task. They were scheduled for the next day.

DAY 6 AFSB Interview

Next day started with Lecturette, we were given 3 minutes to speak on the topics written on the card given to us. 4 topic were written on every card, I chose the third topic, because I was feeling confident on that topic only.
After that we moved to Individual obstacles, I think in this activity GTO evaluates that you are trying your best to do the obstacles without any fear and you do not give up easily because in my batch people doing 10 or more obstacles were not recommended but people doing 4 or 5 obstacles got recommended although recommendation depends on overall performance but doing less obstacles with full determination can also get you recommended.
After that we had FGT[Final Group Task], we were given 15 minutes to do that.
Next we were instructed to be present in testing hall within an hour for Conference. We took bath and went to testing hall in our formal dress. One by one people were being called in for their conference, for some it took about 2 minutes whereas for others it took up to 20 minutes. About 20 officers were sitting around a U shaped table, one of the officer asked few questions about my interests, hobbies, again Job and salary and why I wanted to join Air Force. It took around 5 -6 minutes and then he asked me to leave.
After the lunch our DSO announced the results by calling out the chest numbers. I was very happy as well as astonished after hearing my chest number [25]. Although it gives immense joy after getting recommended but at the same time you feel sad for your friends who could not get recommended. In all 10 people were recommended from the batch.
I would say that Recommendation is one thing but going through the complete SSB procedure definitely helps to figure out our weaknesses and strengths and one should never worry about the result, only thing that should be kept in mind is to give our best in whatever task that comes next. The everlasting experience will be remembered through all those 6 days and nights that you spent with some of those awesome people who were completely unknown to you on the first day but became close friends in just a week.
