On 09 June 2020, Major Arun Kumar Pandey received a specific intelligence of five terrorists in a village of Jammu and Kashmir. As mission leader, based upon in depth knowledge of terrain and deep sense of terrorist modus operandi, he was able to pin point likely location of the terrorists in huge orchard with dense undergrowth.

Major Arun, based on his appreciation, sited a gap free cordon and led the search for terrorists. He observed suspicious movement in the dense undergrowth, towards which he advanced tactically with his buddy. Suddenly, he came under indiscriminate fire from the hidden terrorist, which he retaliated after taking cover in the folds of ground.

Unmindful of his safety, he crawled forward through the burst of terrorist fire and neutralized him by own fire. In doing so, he came in line of fire of another terrorist. Major Arun swiftly rolled sideways and moved forward to engage him at close quarter, thereby neutralizing him.

For his outstanding leadership and unparalleled courage wherein he neutralized two hardcore terrorists, Major Arun Kumar Pandey is recommended for the award of “SHAURYA CHAKRA”.

Rifleman Mukesh Kumar was part of cordon and search operation launched on 16 July at 2345 hours based on specific intelligence of likely presence of terrorists in a remote village of Jammu and Kashmir.

At 0510 hours, as civilians were being evacuated from the target house, Rifleman Mukesh received a radio call of a suspect approaching his side of the cordon. Rifleman Mukesh controlled own fire to prevent casualty to civilians but was mentally alert to discern a weapon that a civilian was concealing under his clothing. On being challenged, the civilian, who was a terrorist, attempted to draw up his weapon to fire but Rifleman Mukesh physically wrestled with the terrorist, who was shocked by the ferocity of the assault.

He kept attacking the terrorist with the butt of his weapon inspite of sustaining a Gunshot wound. Unmindful of his injuries, Rifleman Mukesh neutralised the terrorist from point blank range ensuring no injuries to own troops or the civilians.

Will Subedar Neeraj Chopra Get Commissioned Officer Rank In the Indian Army?

0

Subedar Neeraj Chopra, who created history by winning a gold medal in the Tokyo Olympics may not get a commissioned officer rank as demanded by many well-wishers and even Army officers. For officers of the rank of JCO in the army, written examination and interview are mandatory requirements to become commissioned officers. In this context, the Army has the option of promoting Neeraj Chopra as Subedar Major or Honorary Major for the time being. Subedar Neeraj Chopra, who became the Olympic champion in javelin throw, whichever option he chooses, the army will happily give him the promotion he wants.

The army is also buoyed over the achievement of Neeraj Chopra, who won the country’s first athletics gold medal in Olympic history and is ready to promote its sports hero. However, on the basis of this unprecedented achievement, on the discussions of making him a commissioned officer directly, military sources said that the army cannot do it even if it wants. Officers in the army are given a commission by the President. There are mandatory procedures for this that it is not possible to bypass. Army JCOs also become commissioned officers through written examination and interviews.

How an OR/JCO (Personnel Below Officer Rank) can become an officer in Indian Army?

To become an officer in the Indian army from a JCO or OR rank one must go through the service entries like ACC Exam, SCO, and PC(SL) Entry. One has to go through the written exam and 5 Days SSB Interview to become an officer in the Indian Army.

We have the example of Honorary Captain Vijay Kumar Sharma, AVSM, SM an Indian sport shooter. He won the silver medal in the individual 25 metre rapid-fire pistol event at the 2012 Summer Olympics. He was promoted to Subedar Major.

6 Amazing Pictures of Subedar Neeraj Chopra Will Motivate You

0

Subedar Neeraj Chopra on Saturday became only the second Indian to win an individual gold in the Olympics, out-performing the field by quite a distance to notch up the first track-and-field Games medal for the country. The 23-year-old farmer’s son from Khandra village near Panipat in Haryana produced the second throw of 87.58m in the finals to stun the athletics world and end India’s 100-year wait for a track and field medal in the Olympics.

Chopra won the country’s seventh medal and first gold in this Olympics and joined shooter Abhinav Bindra (2008 Beijing Games) as India’s individual gold winners in the showpiece. With this, the country surpassed the previous best haul of six medals achieved in the 2012 London Games. Neeraj Chopra will be taking the flag for India at the Tokyo Olympics closing ceremony.

All About Indian Defence Cyber Agency

0

Government has approved establishment of Defence Cyber Agency, under the aegis of Ministry of Defence. This agency is now fully functional.  To mitigate cyber threats, all the three Services have established their respective Cyber Emergency Response Teams (CERT). Furthermore, the Government of India is formulating the National cyber security strategy, which is in the final stages of approval.

There have been repeated attempts by various cyber threat actors to target our various sectors. However, measures are being taken to detect and deter these threats.

Adequate safeguards have been instituted in the form of Cyber Audits, Physical Checks and Policy Guidelines to ensure a robust cyber posture of armed forces.

A ‘Formation’ is an organisation entity in the Indian Army like a Brigade, Division, Corps
and Command. There is no organisation like an ‘Agency’. The raising of a Defence Cyber
Agency is perhaps the lowest in the rung, not well understood, has limited resources and
would not be in a position to convey ‘Deterrence’ as stated in the recommended Cyber
Doctrine for the Indian Armed Forces.

Accordingly, the task force felt that while a Defence Cyber Agency is a long awaited and a
welcome measure, it must provide the base for an Indian Cyber Command which must be
created within the next three years to effectively respond to likely and emerging threats.
Since one is not certain of the government’s likely decision, the report has expressions
like ‘Formation/DCyA’. Formation conveys the organisational level of cyber power,
(cyber brigade/division/corps/command) is a familiar entity, and hence, well understood.
Recommendations made in the report are equally valid to both, the Formation and Defence
Cyber Agency.

Further, the terms convey the long-term applicability and validity of the report as the DCyA
transforms to a Cyber Command.

Formation of Defence Cyber Agency (DCyA) be taken as an intermediate step towards the formation of a full-fledged Cyber Formation or Cyber Command over the next three years, while concurrently developing capabilities for full spectrum Information Warfare with cyber power as one of its major constituents.

Build capabilities of cyber power for our armed forces on Seven Pillars as illustrated
below:

  1. Policy and strategy for development and employment of cyber power Indian Armed Forces doctrine for application of cyber power and information operations Organisation for cyber deterrence, synergy, staffing and adaptation of cyber force
  2. Human resource, training and certification
  3. Technology, R&D, standards and integrity of data
  4. Integration and development of concepts for application of cyber power for effective cyber deterrence
  5. International engagement and legal framework
