Recommended For Indian Army In 4th Attempt

Recommended For Indian Army In 4th Attempt

I am Anurag Mishra and I got recommended for Indian Army through CDS Direct Entry from 17 SSB Bangalore. I always had a dream of writing my story as well on SSBCrack just like the other recommended candidates. Reading stories on the website always motivated me to perform best this time as this was my 4th attempt. All my previous attempts were before graduation and I was conference out all the 3 times but this time I wanted to make it count and do better than before.

My preparation started right from the analyzing myself and that’s all. I just analyzed myself and prepared in no other way. I thought that I’ll be natural and just give my natural reactions as opposed to a previous time when I used to manipulate.

I reported on July 21 to center and had PPDT the next day. I wrote a good positive story and a practical open and narrated it very confidently. I also participated in the discussion confidently and logically and I knew I would get screened in. Just be confident, positive and talk logically and getting screened in is never a big problem.

Next day in Psych test, I wrote positive, practical, cheerful stories and for the 12th slide, i wrote my own life story. In WAT and SRT, I wrote my natural responses. Number of SRT never make any difference but it’s your responses that do. In SD, I had asked my friends, family and teachers about my positive and negative points and wrote exactly what they had told me. Overall, I was natural, spontaneous and confident.

Best AFCAT Book –> Let’s Crack AFCAT
Best EKT Book -> Let’s Crack EKT

Then in the interview, I gave true answers and smiled throughout the interview. I did not try to fake and just gave natural responses to all the questions he asked. I was confident of my responses and did not stammer or stutter.

Then came the GTO and I followed the same strategy. I remained cooperative with the entire group and always gave positive suggestions. I took the initiative whenever I could and helped others. Basically, I was enjoying myself and not cared about the results.

Then came the D-Day and I was confident about myself this time and had thought that even if I don’t get recommended this time, I will remain positive and won’t give up. My conference lasted for 1 min. Then the results were announced and when my chest number was called, i couldn’t believe it. I got emotional and tears rolled down my eyes. My dream had come true and so of my parents. I told them and they were so happy. Got medically fit and hoping that will make it to merit list and join the prestigious IMA.

My only suggestions are, be yourself, be happy and cheerful, coaching is not a mandatory thing and just go out there and enjoy yourself. Also, introspect and find out about yourself more and more and never talk to any recommended candidate.

8 Tips To Complete 60 SRTs In 30 Mins

Situation Reaction Test tips

Situation Reaction Test (SRT) is largely a test of common sense. In day-to-day life, we come across certain unforeseen and unsought situations and we are called upon to resolve these and act in a suitable manner to meet the demand of the situation.

An Armed Forces officer comes across new, uncommon and inexperienced situations during his service career which can only be tackled if he has an alert mind, thinks logically and clearly, and gives quick decisions in those situations of stress and pressure without getting nervous.

SRT measures an individual in action and confronts him with situations related to own life, in response to which he expresses his feelings. This way, the individual reveals some of his personality traits through his performance and reflects his spontaneous techniques, reasoning ability and maturity of dealing with life situations preconceived by the psychologist.

spot_img

Here we are providing few techniques to complete 60 SRTs in 30 minutes

  1. Write minimum possible words in your response, using action words and punctuation marks (Like a comma, full stop), it shortens the answer. Use telegraphic language. This saves time.
For example: While going to college, he saw fire in the building, people were panicking. He…..
Action 1: He was pacifying the people to calm them and using fire extinguishers tried to stop the fire and called the fire brigade to come to extinguish fire then he rescued the people from fire and called an ambulance to admit them to the hospital.  (IMPROPER)
Action 2: pacified the people, switched off mains, used fire extinguishers, called up fire brigade, rescued people, admitted them to the nearest hospital.   (PROPER)
  2. Don’t write merely the reaction, write full action.
For example: While playing football, he twisted his ankle very badly. He….
    Reaction: took first aid.
Complete action: took first aid, continued playing and won the match.
  3. It is very important to note that there is no right or wrong answer to any situation. There is a course of action to be followed which can differ from person to person. So don’t waste your time finding the correct answer, just write whatever comes to your mind naturally but it should make sense.
  4. If for any situation, you have a lot of options in your mind, write the best one. For example, the situation is: He is good in studies but can’t pay his college fee…. In this situation, you may want to write– somehow managed or managed from a friend, later returned him . With these answers, reflects your trait of dependency on others. Until it is very urgent or some other option is not available where you can’t manage by self, don’t write these. You may write, took a part time job or gave tuition classes.
  5. Although the situations given are simple but if by any chance you can’t find a response to some uncommon situation, move on to the next one without wasting time. If you have time later, then think and write it down.
  6. If you find that a situation is repeated in some other form, then give the action differently but see it is not contradictory to the previous action.
  7. Always try and empathise yourself into the situation and then think for the solution. That way you think faster and respond.
  8. Manage your writing speed. For this, you need to focus and practice. Initially, start practising without a clock and time. Try to improve your responses. As soon you see progress in your thinking process, try to be quicker in responding and put the time limit of 30 seconds to it. Remember to practice writing fast and legible too.Always remember that one learns to act appropriately to these situations by virtue of the experience one gains in life and not by the knowledge gained through classroom instruction. This is a natural and instinctive test of yours, don’t mug up answers.

26 Useful Safety Tips For Women Travelling Alone For SSB Interviews

26 SAFETY TIPS FOR WOMEN TRAVELLING FOR SSB INTERVIEWS

The alarming rate of increase in crimes against women in the recent times has made us ponder over about our security as women. Being Armed Forces aspirants, bearing a brave heart and having a smart reflexive mind are required to tackle the problems of life, one includes travelling.  If we can’t protect ourselves, how can the security of millions be rested on our shoulders?

After you have received your call letter from the respective forces, you seek for travel plans. Making reservations for trains, flights or whatever conveyance, right from boarding to de-boarding the transportation, your parents/family members/relatives/guardians are concerned all about your safety if you are travelling alone. Not only this, it gives you goosebumps too, at some point or the other, admit it! However, one of the delightful things about travelling alone is that you are living life on your terms. It’s always empowering to learn about yourself and what you want.

We are providing women candidates with some useful safety tips for travelling alone for SSB interviews, nevertheless, you may follow them anytime, anywhere travelling solo.

  1. Always crowdsource your research: Never forget to acquire information about the place you are about to visit. If you arrive a day before the SSB interview, take the help of reviewing sites like TripAdvisor, Trivago for booking hotels and the neighbourhood it is in, so you can see which areas seem safe.
  2. Give someone back home your itinerary: Someone back home should know or have a general idea about your whereabouts, in case something goes wrong or if they need to get in touch with you.
  3. Take a picture of all the documents you are carrying for the interview and keep them safe in pen drives, mobile phones, locked sites: Unfailingly take scanned pictures of all your important documents and put them on a locked site (Like Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox, etc) or in pen drives that you can access from any computer anywhere.
  4. Consider travel insurance: Always insure your travelling so that all manner of unexpected costs is covered. For a reasonable fee, your medical and dental emergencies are covered, reimbursements for your lost baggage, damage, and more are issued.
  5. Schedule a regular check-in with someone back home: Whether it is through a phone call, Whatsapp, or any e-medium, it is a good safety precaution to keep your family informed and updated about your status.
  6. Pack light: This can actually be a safety tip because the less number of bags you carry, lesser get the opportunities for people to rob you. You will also be more mobile and comfortable with smaller bags in case you need to move quickly or cover greater distances. Carry all the necessary items like a small first aid kit (which has bandages, cough medicines, paracetamol, etc.),  sanitary napkins, cell phone chargers, etc.
  7. Carry hard copies of your itinerary and important phone numbers with you at all times: This includes the phone numbers of your family members, the number and location of the SSB centre you are travelling.
  8. Don’t keep all your money in one place: Keep some cash with yourself in your pockets and some in your bags.
  9. Keep your mobile phone charged, carry phone chargers, LED flashlights: Do not use all of your mobile phone’s battery by chatting on Whatsapp or using Facebook and Instagram.  Carry phone chargers or power banks. Remember to have a small flashlight or just check if your cell phone has it or not.
  10. Bring a portable door or window alarm (if possible): These easily make travelling and any accommodation safer. It is a motion sensitive door alarm that will send off an alarm if someone tries to open your door. Useful in your hotel stays.
  11. Carry a safety mechanism that you feel comfortable with: Carry a pepper spray, knife, mace or a cat key chain, all work for self defense, just in case.
  12. If you order room service or something from a hotel, never identify that you are alone: If you have to order room service for any reason, say the other person will “be right back” or open the door only part way.
  13. Have the address of your SSB centre written down to hand to auto or cab drivers: Have the right and full address written on a piece of paper to hand it to cab drivers so that you don’t mess with the location and end up some other place.
  14. If you’re listening to music, don’t wear both headphones: This way you can always stay alert. You can also wear headphones with no music on as an excuse for not listening to an unwanted conversation and a way to eavesdrop and overhear anything threatening that might be going on.
  15. If you get lost, don’t look at your phone or a map in the middle of the road: Never operate your phone in the middle of the road, it may get dangerous, just get into a shop or cafe and check there.
Current Affairs questions will be from last 5-7 months (for AFCAT, NDA, CDS, TA)
  16. Take your bag with you to the restroom every time: Either you are on a bus or a train, always take your purse with you to the washroom.
  17. Always go in the bus that has other people in it. Also, try sitting close to the front: Never board a deserted bus or which has fewer people in it. Consider taking seats in the front.
  18. Don’t sleep too tight on trains and keep your luggage chained: Never sleep too soundly while travelling. And if you can’t help it, then don’t take night trains alone. Also, secure your luggage with chains and locks.
  19. Eat your own food only and buy packaged foods and water bottles from vendors: This point has been put in our heads by our parents since we were kids. And yes, it holds right even today. Avoid taking food or other stuff from strangers.
  20. Snap a picture of your cab’s license plate before you get in it: Both for safety reasons and also in case you leave something in it. Having the license number makes it much easier to track down.
  21. When you are on the bus, train, cab or just walking, make a real (or fake) phone call: In case you feel unsafe or just like that, make a real or fake call and say, “Yep, I am almost there. I will be there in xyz minutes” so the driver or the people around you think you are meeting someone at your destination. Even if you are not.
  22. Track your cab via Google Maps so you can tell if you’re going off route: Locate your place and keep a track.
  23. If you stop to buy tickets or food where your attention is away, put your bag between your legs or in between your body and the counter instead of beside you: That way it’s harder to swipe off your bag.
  24. Talk to lots of people: When you are out and walking around, talk to people and get a sense of what’s happening and where.
  25. If you get into a situation where you feel alone and unsafe, start telling stories using “we” about your (real or imaginary) mate or companion: It creates a sense of partnership and security.
  26. Never feel guilty about saying no to anything: It’s okay to turn down help with your bags, an invitation to dinner, etc. Don’t be afraid to be rude if it means feeling safe. And trust your instincts about when to accept help. Sometimes a male escort is a good way to feel safe, and there are plenty of nice strangers who are willing and able to help you.

Next time while travelling, consider these tips! Stay safe, travel safe.

Hello, aspirants, My story is a little bit longer, so please read it only if you too want to motivate yourself. After reading success stories of many other people, finally, I am happy to share my story as well. The journey started during my childhood when I saw army men and got inspired to be one of them. My parents were always patriotic and they too encouraged me to be like them. But, my parents were under a misconception about my eyesight, that wearing glasses is a permanent disability to join forces and so they explained me this issue, being a little kid I cried a lot that night but I accepted it and moved on. So my passion was locked deep inside me and had to move on with another goal, so I chose to pursue MBA. But the passion for olive green was still igniting in me and so I joined NCC in college to get a flavor of army life.  I was a part of the Rajpath parade contingent in 2014 and also got selected for Youth Exchange Program to Kazakhstan and Bangladesh (2014).And it was during this camp that I came to know about medical standards of Army and was shocked to know that a particular range of eyesight is acceptable. I felt like rising out of ashes like a phoenix and again got myself on the track of trying for the Army. I kept on preparing for MBA entrance exams and for army simultaneously so that in case I fail to clear ssb, still, I’ll be leading a happy life. Eventually, my hard work paid off and I got admission at Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies, Bengaluru campus but got conferenced out in my first attempt at Allahabad. I was deeply sad and felt like losing and questioned myself whether I have it in me or not. But, I gathered my hope as I had read a lot of success stories of people making it in their 23rd attempt, so it always pushed me to not give up and to try again and again. The time came in my second attempt at 31 SSB, Kapurthala where I  got recommended. Now, I have happily left my MBA seat and got into the extra ordinary profession of the Army. Many people ask as to how to prepare for SSB, so I’ll discuss how my ssb went and what extra I had put in to make things work.

ONE GOLDEN ADVICE, PLEASE LISTEN TO ALL THE INSTRUCTIONS GIVEN TO YOU BEFORE ANY TEST BECAUSE EVERY ASSESSOR HAS A HABIT OF CHANGING BITS AND MINOR OF INSTRUCTIONS ACCORDING TO HIM AND SO HE CHECKS IF YOU TAKE INSTRUCTIONS SERIOUSLY OR NOT. SO PLEASE CAREFULLY LISTEN TO INSTRUCTIONS IN ENTIRE 5 DAY PROCESS.

Day 1 – Screening

My group had a very rough start and so was divided into two groups. Mine group had people with good communication skills and so everybody was shouting. But eventually, we all came to a consensus and I was nominated to give the group story. For screening, please be to the point, give narration within time limit and co-operate with the group. Be cultured and humane, everybody has to come get screened in so please behave with your group.  Listen others and talk to them like friends.30 got screened in out of 150 and I was number 18

Day 2- Psychology

In all TAT, WAT, SRT and SD I was brutally honest with my responses. I had practiced a lot for these tests as because I analyzed that I lacked in these tests and had got out because of psych tests in my first attempt. I read the book-  An appointment with Psychologist, in one of the success stories and had read it after getting conferenced out and realized my mistakes. I advise all to read this book, but only after when you have already practiced a lot for psych testing. This book will give you an insight but please don’t follow anything blindly. Mix the book with your responses, make a common conclusion about your responses and then chose the path that you think is correct for you in psych tests. Please talk to your friends, parents, teachers for SD and write honestly about yourself in it. The psychologist already has made a perception about and just wants to know whether you too know about yourself or not, so please be honest in writing.

Personal Interview

Soon after my psych test, I was called for the interview with the board president. I was prepared for it but didn’t see it coming right away after psych tests. The president sir was very harsh on me and was constantly provoking to see my reactions. He grilled me in my first 10 minutes of entry in his room. President sir gave me rapid fire of around 10-15 questions and kept on confusing by interrupting me. He got personal even on very small things and at times he even shouted. Here is the key friends, any assessor is not your enemy, even if he scolds or shouts at you, he just wants to know about your reactions and personality. There were many questions I couldn’t answer but I remained honest and kept saying sorry sir, I didn’t know the answer for anything I didn’t know.  For preparation, Please write down all yours answers in the copy, practice to speak them and be honest with your answers. He asked me about my favorite area in GK, and I said international affairs and he threw a lot of questions in gk but thankfully I had answers to all those questions. He asked about ransom ware attack, GST, south china sea and all these in good detail. If you claim something, then please be ready that he is going to test you on that, so please be ready with your answers. He got really furious when he asked me the topic of my national debate competition where I stood second and soon as I told him “ TERRORISM” he got so furious as if he will shoot me now and discussed really long about it and even passed comments on me , but that was the reality so I stood by it and answered everything and showed my debating skills to him and I could make out that I had convinced him with logics and examples.  He asked me to give an exact measurement of his room, a question on directions and one basketball match to be organized. The interview went for an hour but it was the most grilling interview ever happened to me, my confidence went really low but as soon as I came back to line area, all my buddies started cracking jokes and I was cheered up again.

Current Affairs questions will be from last 5-7 months (for AFCAT, NDA, CDS, TA)

Day 3- GTO 1

The group discussions were on topic- 1) the causes of the rise of terrorism  2) How can be uniform civil code be implemented. The discussions were very smooth, as agreed in the group, we all didn’t make it a hassle and let everybody speak and so we had a very healthy discussion.

In group planning, we all had different ideas and ways and all of us were right in our own ways. We discussed 3 out of 5 problems and the GTO seemed satisfied with it. A group member was nominated to narrate the solution. For anybody who narrates, the GTO might encounter you with a few questions, please be calm and give a correct answer to him. He will try to confuse or grill you, but please don’t get nervous he has no personal issue with you. He is playing his duty, you do yours.

In PGT, I remained calm and performed like I was playing with my team. Where people had ideas and were advancing, I didn’t get in to showcase myself unnecessarily even if I didn’t have an idea. I let my team go ahead and didn’t affect their speed. I gave in ideas wherever my team got stuck and helped my team to cross over. I realized that with every difficult obstacle, my participation was increasing in the group but I did not get in without any idea of how to cross the obstacle. I cheered up my team on occasions, took the load and carried it and helped to a maximum of my ability.

In HGT, same was followed as in PGT without any change.

In snake race, I was shouting all the time like anything. I was giving war cry like a mad person but thankfully my group also supported and didn’t make me look like an alien. I did all the obstacles, being tall, I helped at the wall and helped in all possible manners and my group was first in the race. At the first gate vault we were to make figure 8 on the obstacle but I made an inverse 8, as soon I could go back , GTO came and asked if any violations and I immediately raised my hand told about my fault and gave penalty to my team, there is no harm in doing mistake but it is definitely an issue If you don’t accept your mistakes  and friends believe me they definitely don’t want somebody who is not courageous enough to accept mistakes.

GTO 2

I performed 11 obstacles and was able to do swiftly as I had been keeping up my physical fitness.

I have a habit of participating in extempore and so I performed great at lecturette. I advise all to please read newspapers daily and read them in front of mirror and practice for lecturette daily

In command task, my GTO had a small chat with me regarding my career plans, my family, and my MBA plans. He gave me an average difficult task and I was able to do it until the last stage where I got stuck. GTO asked me what happened and told him honestly about the issue. He gave hint and I picked up and as soon as I could do anything, he stopped my task sending my thoughts into doubt about how did I perform.

In FGT, I did the same thing as PGT, HGT and remained calm, took the load, gave in two ideas and cheered up my team.

BOARD CONFERENCE

Before my conference started, board took good 10-15 minutes to call me in, as soon as I went in, they asked me a couple of more questions about my college and family and asked me few questions on foreign exchange reserves, wpi and inflation(being a commerce graduate). They asked me to give 10 uses of a tumbler. They asked for genuine suggestions on line area and mess and I gave one for each. The GTO was repeatedly bouncing his head left right from me towards the deputy president, that they do intend to confuse and to distract and so please don’t be distracted.

Finally, the time came to announce results they said chest no 18 and I jumped and shouted my name in glory. I had finally made to the point of earning that plus sign on my chest number.

After getting recommended, the board president met us and he shook hands with me and said “so, you think that the interviewer wins every time and not the the interviewee ?? and you think that your interviewer went worst? “ and started laughing and I was stunned. I didn’t have any answer to him because of my emotions.

ssb recommended
Me at SSB Kapurthala

3 of us got recommended from 30 and with immense happiness, we carried on with our medicals. Merit has been released and I stood 17th on merit and my other buddies as well made it to final vacancies.  One of us 3 has even topped the list of merit and we all three are eager to earn those stars on our shoulders.

Friends, please work hard with that passion and zeal to succeed because it’s the fire in you that takes you to the zenith. Dream big and dream every day because dreams come true every single day. If any single person has down what you desire, then be sure that you too can do that.
