Helpline to Register Complaints Anonymously Launched By BSF

3

After a BSF Constable Tej Bahadur, alleged in a video that poor-quality food was being served at border posts, BSF has launched two helpline numbers for its personnel to register their complaints. They will be able to register complaints anonymously until 31st January and post that BSF will ensure action in all the genuine complaints.

BSF Director General KK Sharma on Thursday told jawans that they can register complaints on the helplines and that they do not need to identify themselves.

He held a satellite-based ‘sainik sammelan’ (troops conference) with all his field formations in the country from New Delhi where he asked the jawans to let him know their grievances in an absolutely secret manner.

The DG made a specific point and publicised two telephone numbers placed at the force headquarters in New Delhi saying the jawans and officers can register any complaint on these links and their name, rank and designations will not be sought while making these calls.

Sharma also informed the personnel that a special vigilance team has been constituted in the force headed by an Inspector General (IG) rank officer and this unit would be conducting surprise checks and raids at field formations and forward locations of the BSF.

The numbers are not being publicised as it may be misused and it has been circulated during the conference. The BSF DG also explained to his men and women about the multiple forums and avenues available to them for grievance redressal.

While the current numbers are not being publicised, the BSF already have multiple helpline numbers on its site:

INS Khanderi, The 2nd Scorpene Class Submarine Launched

0

INS Khanderi, the second Scorpene class submarine was launched at the Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) in Mumbai on 12 January 2017. It is the second of the six submarines being built under Project 75, with assistance and technology transfer from DCNS of France under a deal signed in October 2005.

Here are some mind-boggling facts about INS Khanderi:
  1. INS Khanderi is named after the Island fort of Maratha forces, which played a vital role in ensuring their supremacy at sea in the late 17th century.

    khanderi
    Khanderi Fort Near Mumbai
  2. The state-of-the-art features of INS Khanderi include superior stealth and the ability to launch a crippling attack on the enemy using precision guided weapons.
  3. The attack from it can be launched with torpedoes, as well as tube-launched anti-ship missiles, whilst on surface or underwater.
  4. The stealth features give it invulnerability, unmatched by many submarines. The submarine is designed to operate in all theatres, including the tropics.
  5. All means and communications are provided to ensure interoperability with other components of a Naval task force.
  6. It can undertake multifarious types of missions typically undertaken by any modern submarine such as anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface warfare, intelligence gathering, area surveillance, minelaying etc.
  7. The indigenously-built submarine, named Khanderi, will now undergo extensive trials at sea and harbour till December to test all its equipment before it officially gets the “INS” prefix and is commissioned into the Indian Navy. As a matter of fact, Indian Navy’s submarine arm will complete its 50 years on 8 December 2017.
  8. India joined an exclusive group of submarine constructing nations on February 7, 1992, with the commissioning of the first Indian-built submarine, INS Shalki.

India is among few countries in the world which produce conventional submarines. The first submarine of the class (Kalvari) is completing its sea trials and will be commissioned shortly into the Indian Navy. The other four submarines are expected to be launched at nine-month intervals after the INS Khanderi. At Present, the Indian Navy operates only 13 conventionally powered submarines and 2 nuclear submarines.

ATAGS Dhanush Test Fired, To Be Showcased In Republic Day Parade

0

Just within the last week, Indian Army has successfully conducted ‘user-validation’ trials of indigenous Advanced Towed Artillery Gun System (ATAGS) Dhanush in the Himalayas. It cleared the way for its induction into the Army. Not only this, 2 of those Dhanush guns will be showcased during the grand Republic Day parade this year.

Here are the key take-away points of this test:
Dhanush
ATAGS Dhanush in Action
  1. The tests were conducted under the aegis of the Srinagar-based 15 Corps and the Leh-based 14 Corps. The 15 Corps is tasked to face Pakistan while the 14 Corps is dual-tasked to face Pakistan as well as China.
  2. Dhanush 155 MM/45 calibre gun is based on the 1980s’ Bofors FH-77B/39 Calibre artillery gun design and aided by the transfer of technology (ToT) clause signed with the Swedish company.
  3. A production-level prototype was tested and this was supposed to be the last lap of trials before the Ordnance Factory Board starts it bulk production.
  4. A total of six guns were tested-fired in snow and in conditions where temperatures dipped to minus 10 degrees.
  5. The first 3 guns of the production-level prototype underwent 4-month trial from June to September 2016. 3 more other guns were to be added and the entire lot will be tested in high-altitude winter conditions.
  6. The Indian version has several improvements to make Dhanush compatible with today’s modern communication techniques.
  7. It also has night firing capability in direct fire mode. It has several significant features such as an all-electric drive, quick deployability, high mobility, auxiliary power mode, advanced communication system, and automated command and control system.

With the gun getting all prepped up to march down Rajpath during the RDC-2017, it is a long-waited honour for both, Indian Army and the Gun Carriage Factory (GCF) in Jabalpur (which is a part of the Ordnance Factory Board (OFB)).
