Special forces are indeed special, they are highly trained to perform the tedious tasks which include high risk. The need of special force had emerged in 20th century and boosted during the 2nd world war.
Now the special forces are much advanced and carry task and missions which look impossible, including counter-terrorism, hostage rescue, manhunting / high-value targets and general unconventional warfare.
