A major part of your selection depends on Group Tasks. Group tasks are a series of tasks, where your adaptability with the group is checked. It is important for an officer to be socially adaptable, as an officer you’ll be supposed to work with group of people. You need to have an excellent chemistry with your group mates, while in service as it is all about doing things together. The operations you perform, the tasks you do, everything demands a great team effort. In SSB also they are looking for a good team player, as a good team player will benefit the organization. So it is important to have a good relation and bond with your group mates. You need to socialize with your group mates to make sure that you people have a good bond.
A good conversation starts with asking about a person’s background, you can simply begin by asking them about the place where they belong to or about their family or education. If you have an issue in socializing then you need to be extra cautious. You have to make sure that you are not left out. For people who are bad in socializing SSB is like a blessing, as it’ll give you immense chances to remove this barrier and overcome this phase. It is good to mix with people soon. Try initiating a conversation and you’ll find common things very soon.
If there is somebody in the group you see, who has a problem in mixing up, then talk to that person, help him/her to overcome this. Your group will be with you for the longest duration. This is so because every other testing gets over in about 1-2 hours, and group testing is an affair of around 8-10 hours (divided into two days). So group testing goes on for the longest duration of time. If you have a good relationship with your group mates, it’ll be abundantly evident in the group tasks. Having a good repo will help you as they’ll trust you when you device a plan, or when you speak in GD. There are many candidates, who are well deserving but have failed as they got a bad group.
Do not be selfish, and help your group mates if they want to know something. You might be having knowledge on a few topics, so create a healthy atmosphere where you all can share your knowledge and get prepared for the coming tasks. This creates a very positive atmosphere amongst group mates. You can do mock GD’s in room. You can even do mock Lecturettes and mock interviews in you room.
The people you socialize with and the reason you socialize with in SSB might be done for your benefit, but you can get lifelong friends. For six days you share the same thoughts, same goal and have the same zeal, it is not difficult to connect with each other in the absence of any modern technological barrier!
