Theย Armed Forces Special Operations Divisionย (AFSOD) is aย tri-serviceย command of theย Indian Armed Forces. The division is tasked to carry outย special operations. The AFSOD draws personnel from all threeย special warfareย branches of the Armed Forces.
Indian Armyย Major Generalย A. K. Dhingra, who is a war veteran from theย Para SF, was appointed in May 2019 as the first head of the AFSOD. The division is expected to be converted into a full sizedย tri-serviceย commandย in future.

Ace Special Forces operative and Sri Lanka war veteran Major General AK Dhingra has been appointed as the first head of countryโs first tri-services Special Operations Division comprising commandos from all three services. The Armed Forces Special Operations Division has been set up by the government to undertake joint operations by three services and will have elements from the Armyโs Parachute Regiments SF, Marine Commandos (MARCOS) of the Navy and the Garud Commandos of the Indian Air Force. โMaj Gen Dhingra is a Special Forces veteran and is from the elite 1 Para Special Forces Regiment. He has done Special Operations courses in the US also and has been appointed as the first chief of the AFSOD,โ Army sources said.
