The defense forces of India are a force to reckon with. They work tirelessly to ensure that our country is safe on land, in the air, or on water. With the uniform, every defense personnel pledges their service to the nation. Defence personnel is government employee and are offered a variety of facilities for themselves and their families. Let’s have a look at some of them.

  • Home sweet home
A defense personnel gets transferred constantly. A transfer usually is moving from one state to another. But anywhere they go, they get comfortable housing facility. If it is a family station, that is a unit where you can take your family, then a house is provided by the government in accordance with your rank. The house is in a safe, secure and lush society which has all amenities nearby. If you don’t have a family yet, you’re put up in the various mess accommodation usually near or in the same locality as mentioned above. This offers a great peace of mind to all serving individuals and lets them focus on their work, without having to take care of the difficulties of finding a house.
  • Stay fit, stay strong
As a defense personnel, you will need to maintain your fitness level to a maximum and you would need the same for your family too. Every station has a variety of state-of-the-art facilities that will suit your need. There are several well-equipped gyms, 50-meter swimming pools, Badminton courts, tennis courts, table-tennis courts, basketball courts to name a few. Because of this defense forces produce thousands of sportspersons who make the country proud.
  • Canteen Facilities
For everyday needs, there is a dedicated defense canteen which is very well stocked with latest products and which can be purchased at a lower cost as the goods sold are exempt from taxes.

Officers of the government are entitled to flight tickets every year. This gives them a good chance to travel to good locations within the country and relax.
  • Enjoy club services
Every defense personnel is entitled to club membership. A club is a rejuvenation place for all the personnel. As an Indian Army officer at 21, you’d be looking at a lifestyle that one cannot imagine it any other profession, so early in life. What compromises “Quality of Life”? On one hand, is a job with a thick pay packet but with the drudgery of 9 AM to 9 PM schedule, no avenues and time for extracurricular activities, no scope for adventure and excitement, no social status, lack of family life, the threat of being terminated with a month’s salary, working in suffocating environment with no self-respect and honor. On the other hand is a job which offers you challenge, adventure, excitement, honour, prestige, self-respect, wholesome family life, safety and security for the family and to top it all the love, respect, and esteem of our great India. In the somewhat chaotic social and economic conditions that prevail in our country, Army life is an island of sanity and social order that is the envy of our countrymen. Quality of life is an important attribute of Army life and has no parallel in any other service. Some of the intangibles, which go to make the quality of life in the Army, are:-

  • Service of the motherland.
  • A profession to be proud of
  • Opportunity to travel and know the country and its people/culture/flora and fauna
  • Opportunity to serve and represent the nation abroad
  • A pure and noble profession
  • Honour and social status
  • No stagnation, a new challenge every day.
  • Opportunity for growth
  • Sports and adventure activity
  • Messes, clubs and institutions facilities
  • Education facilities – Both school and professional colleges for children
  • AWWA hostel for girls in metros
  • Army ensures your physical and mental health.
  • Quality of life ensured not only for officers, but also families.

The armed forces strive hard to maintain a certain lifestyle of living. These are just some of the many facilities that will come your way if you make up your mind to join the forces. But remember these are just perks, the greatest ‘facility’ that you will receive is the joy of serving your motherland!
