In a significant development aimed at bolstering Indiaโ€™s maritime capabilities and promoting self-reliance in shipbuilding, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) and Hindalco Industries, a leading aluminum producer, have joined hands through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on May 9, 2024.

The landmark partnership signifies a major stride towards breaking barriers and fostering indigenous shipbuilding capabilities in the country.

Under the terms of the MoU, Hindalco Industries will play a pivotal role in facilitating the supply of indigenous aluminum to both public and private shipyards involved in the construction of Indian Coast Guard ships.

Speaking on the occasion, a spokesperson from the Indian Coast Guard expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, emphasizing its significance in advancing the organizationโ€™s mission of protecting the nationโ€™s maritime interests.

The spokesperson highlighted the importance of indigenous shipbuilding in strengthening Indiaโ€™s maritime capabilities and ensuring the security of its coastal waters.

Hindalco Industries, as a key partner in this endeavor, reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the nationโ€™s defense and security objectives through the supply of high-quality indigenous aluminum.
