In a somber development from Jammu and Kashmir, Captain Deepak Singh of the 48 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) (Garh Rif) was killed in action during an encounter with terrorists in Doda district’s Assar area.
The clash occurred at Shivgarh Dhar near Akar forest on Wednesday, where the army officer was fatally injured while leading his team against heavily armed terrorists.
Security forces engaged in the encounter suspect the presence of three to four terrorists in the area, who are holed up in the dense forest. Captain Singh was leading the operation when he was struck by gunfire. He was quickly evacuated but succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
During the ongoing operations, security forces injured one terrorist and recovered an M4 carbine along with ammunition. The operation, initiated on Tuesday evening, also led to the discovery of bloodstains and abandoned equipment, suggesting a fierce engagement.
Doda’s Senior Superintendent of Police, Javed Iqbal, confirmed that the operation is ongoing, with intense efforts to neutralize the remaining terrorists. The situation remains tense as the security forces continue their search and combat operations in the challenging terrain.
