Jammu, November 3, 2026: Major General Mukesh Kumar Bhanwala, Inspector General (Operations), National Security Guard (NSG), called on Chief Minister Omar Abdullah at the Civil Secretariat in Jammu today.
The meeting was confirmed through an official post by the Office of the Chief Minister, J&K. Photographs released with the post show the officer interacting with the Chief Minister in the Secretariat office and exchanging a memento. No official details of the discussions have been disclosed.
Major General Bhanwala, an Indian Army officer currently on deputation to the NSG, serves as IG (Operations) and is responsible for operational planning and execution of the force. Prior to his current appointment, he commanded the 26 Infantry Division (Tiger Division) in the Jammu region. During that tenure, he oversaw flood relief and restoration efforts under Operation Rahat in 2025 and visited veterans, including Honorary Captain Bana Singh, PVC. He handed over command of the division around early November 2025. In July 2026, he had called on Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha in Jammu as part of official engagements.

The National Security Guard is India’s premier specialised counter-terrorism force under the Ministry of Home Affairs, trained and equipped for high-risk operations. The force has been deployed in the Jammu region on previous occasions to support local security agencies amid elevated threat perceptions.
The courtesy call comes amid the resumption of the Darbar Move, with government offices having shifted to Jammu, and ongoing administrative reviews focused on development works and winter preparedness. Such meetings between senior security officers and the elected leadership of the Union Territory form part of routine coordination on security matters.
