Indian Army Organizes Motorcycle Expedition to Commemorate Battle of Walong in Arunachal Pradesh

In a move to honor the sacrifices made by soldiers during the historic Battle of Walong, the Indian Army has organized a motorcycle expedition traversing the scenic routes of Arunachal Pradesh. The expedition began from Mipi in the Dibang Valley district and will end at Meshai in the Anjaw district. Participants include members of the Armed Forces alongside motorcycle enthusiasts from the region.

The event was officially inaugurated on Friday by Major General VS Deshpande, the General Officer Commanding of the Dao Division, according to Lieutenant Colonel Mahendra Rawat, the Guwahati-based Defence Public Relations Officer. The expedition features two significant haltsโ€”one in Roing, located in the Lower Dibang Valley district, and another in Hayuliang within Anjaw districtโ€”before arriving at the historic Walong War Memorial, with the final leg scheduled for completion on November 11, 2024.

This initiative underscores the commitment to remembering the bravery of soldiers who fought courageously during the Sino-Indian War of 1962, particularly in the Battle of Walong. As participants navigate the rugged terrain of the Mishmi Hills and the breathtaking landscapes of the Dibang and Lohit Valleys, the expedition serves as a tribute not only to the military personnel but also to the local populations of Arunachal Pradesh. Their steadfast support for the Indian Armed Forces during the war will be commemorated throughout the journey.

The motorcycle expedition promises to be both a challenging adventure and a reflective homage to resilience and commitment, aiming to reinforce the bonds between the Armed Forces and the communities that stood with them during one of Indiaโ€™s pivotal conflicts.
