President Murmu Observes Naval Operations and Addresses Crew on INS Vikrant

During a recent visit to the Indian Navy, the President received an in-depth briefing on the Navy’s essential role, operational charter, and strategic concepts. This engagement offered her a firsthand view of a series of naval operations that highlighted the Navy’s capabilities. Among the activities showcased were deck-based fighter take-offs and landings, missile-firing drills conducted from a warship, submarine maneuvers, and an impressive flypast featuring over 30 aircraft. The display culminated in a traditional steam-past of the fleet, symbolizing the strength and coordination of naval forces.

Following the operational observations, President Murmu joined the crew of INS Vikrant for a lunch, fostering camaraderie and solidarity with the naval personnel. Later, she addressed the entire fleet, with her speech broadcasted across all operational units at sea, thus extending her message to service members engaged in various missions.

INS Vikrant, which served as the lead ship during the demonstration, stands out as the largest ship ever constructed in India’s maritime history. Notably, it features 76 percent indigenous content, showcasing a commitment to self-reliance with machinery and equipment sourced from major Indian industrial houses alongside contributions from over 100 micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). The keel for INS Vikrant was laid in February 2009, and the aircraft carrier was officially commissioned into service in September 2022. This vessel is named in honor of its historic predecessor, the first aircraft carrier operated by India, which played a crucial role in the 1971 war, and serves as a testament to India’s enduring maritime legacy and aspirations.
