The Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) in Pune marked a significant advancement in cancer diagnosis and research with the inauguration of the DHR-ICMR Advanced Molecular Oncology Diagnostic Services (DIAMOnDS) Centre.
This new facility, one of the few specialized molecular oncopathology labs in India, was inaugurated by Surgeon Vice Admiral Arti Sarin, AVSM, VSM, Director General of Armed Forces Medical Services (DGAFMS).
DIAMOnDS is set to provide free advanced diagnostic services, including Immunohistochemistry (IHC), Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization (FISH), and Next Generation Sequencing (NGS).
These techniques are crucial for timely and precise cancer treatment, representing a milestone in patient care and oncology research in Pune.
Simultaneously, Surgeon Vice Admiral Arti Sarin also inaugurated a state-of-the-art Smart Lecture Hall dedicated to postgraduate training at AFMC. This facility is equipped with advanced educational technologies, including a dual feedback mechanism, tabletop individual displays for all students and faculty, conference calling facilities, and live-feed video capabilities.
The hall is designed to enhance interactive teaching methodologies and facilitate multidisciplinary case discussions across Armed Forces Medical Centres, promoting a more integrated and practical learning environment for medical professionals.
