The firefight intensified as the second terrorist retaliated with a grenade attack and relentless gunfire. Demonstrating quick thinking and fearless leadership, Lt. Siwach ordered his buddy to take cover while he himself engaged the enemy in a daring counter-assault, neutralizing the second terrorist.
For this exceptional act of gallantry and courage under fire, Lieutenant Prashant Siwach was awarded the Shaurya Chakra, one of India’s highest peacetime gallantry awards.
