A sense of deep mourning has engulfed the village of Kothe Chahal in Punjab’s Faridkot district following the martyrdom of Agniveer Akashdeep Singh, who laid down his life while performing his duty in Jammu. Akashdeep, only 22 years old, had been serving in the Indian Army’s Sikh Regiment and had returned to duty recently after spending time at home on leave. Akashdeep Singh, son of Balwinder Singh, joined the Indian Army nearly one and three-quarter years ago under the Agnipath recruitment scheme. On April 20, 2025, Akashdeep returned to his post after completing his leave. On Thursday morning, the family received the heartbreaking news of his martyrdom while on duty. His mortal remains will be brought to Kothe Chahal on Friday, where villagers, relatives, and military personnel will gather to pay their final respects.
