In a major push toward strengthening its logistics and operational capabilities, the Indian Army conducted a comprehensive review of its support infrastructure in Prayagraj. Lieutenant General Anindya Sengupta, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Central Command, visited the 508 Army Base Workshop and Ordnance Depot Fort to assess ongoing modernization efforts aimed at enhancing combat readiness.
Established after the 1962 Sino-Indian War, the 508 Army Base Workshop has transformed into a pivotal maintenance hub, supporting over 18 regimental centers across eight Indian states. During the visit, Lt Gen Sengupta was briefed on recent upgrades including the adoption of advanced engine diagnostics, precision repair technologies, and digital tracking systems. These innovations are designed to minimize equipment downtime and increase the responsiveness of military logistics—a critical component of modern warfare.

The Army Commander commended the technical personnel for their commitment and professionalism, stressing the need for continued innovation. His visit reaffirmed the Indian Army’s resolve to maintain a robust, responsive and tech-empowered logistics ecosystem to support future operations.

Lt Gen Sengupta, a seasoned military leader with experience in UN peacekeeping missions in Congo and counter-insurgency operations in Kashmir, emphasized the strategic value of robust logistics in supporting long-term national security goals. The tour also included a demonstration of the workshop’s newly inducted engine overhaul and mission-critical systems integration bays.

This inspection marks a significant step in the Army’s “Decade of Transformation” initiative, underscoring its focus on readiness, self-reliance, and technology integration to meet emerging challenges across conventional and asymmetric battlefields.
