Major General M P S Gill, VSM, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Uttarakhand Sub Area, paid an official visit to the Public Relations Unit (PRU) in Dehradun today to assess the progress made in operational infrastructure and strategic communication efforts. The unit was recently relocated from Imphal, Manipur, in a move aimed at enhancing regional outreach and media coordination in Uttarakhand—a state of growing importance due to its border with China.
The GOC was briefed on the extensive post-relocation developments, which include modern communication systems and upgraded facilities designed to support timely and effective public messaging from the Army. He praised the dedication of the personnel and urged continued professionalism to meet national objectives. The visit also reaffirmed the Indian Army’s commitment to a forward-looking communication strategy that aligns with evolving security needs and geopolitical challenges.
Major General Gill’s visit follows his earlier review of welfare and healthcare services at Raiwala Military Station. That inspection focused on the performance of the Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS), which has seen a 15% service expansion across its 427 polyclinics nationwide. The review was part of the Army’s broader mission to enhance soldier welfare and veteran care under the ongoing “Year of Reforms.”
This inspection also mirrors global trends where defence forces are prioritizing strategic public engagement. With countries like the US and UK significantly increasing their defence public relations budgets over the past decade, India’s focus on infrastructure-backed communication units is being seen as a crucial step toward strengthening its voice in the Indo-Pacific.
The visit concluded with Major General Gill expressing confidence in the unit’s direction and emphasizing the importance of proactive media engagement in safeguarding national interests.
