Lt Gen Pratik Sharma Reviews Operational Readiness at Strike One Formation

Visit highlights indigenous modernization, hybrid warfare preparedness, and strategic posture along northern borders.

In a key strategic visit, Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Northern Command, reviewed the operational preparedness of the Indian Army’s Strike One formation amid continued tensions along India’s northern frontiers. The visit emphasized the Army’s commitment to maintaining a strong defensive posture against evolving security threats from neighboring adversaries.

Lt Gen Sharma commended the formation’s personnel for their high morale, professionalism, and dedication to safeguarding national sovereignty. He reviewed frontline training initiatives and rapid response capabilities, stressing the need for adaptability and operational flexibility in an increasingly complex security environment.

A highlight of the visit was a live demonstration of indigenously developed defense systems, including a light armored vehicle equipped with modern surveillance and targeting capabilities. The equipment reflects India’s push for defense self-reliance under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.

Strike One, a crucial component of the Northern Command, was strategically repositioned in 2021 to enhance military posture along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh. The region currently hosts around 500 tanks and over 50,000 troops, forming the backbone of India’s deterrent against potential Chinese aggression. The shift in deployment mirrors India’s recalibrated focus on high-altitude warfare and rapid mobility.

The Army Commander also reviewed the formation’s adoption of hybrid warfare training, which includes cyber defense, electronic warfare, and psychological operations. A RAND Corporation study reported a 30% increase in cyber and information warfare training across Indian Army formations, reinforcing preparedness against grey-zone tactics employed by both China and Pakistan.

The visit underscores the Northern Command’s role in integrating indigenous technology with cutting-edge military doctrine to ensure combat readiness. With a focus on agility, innovation, and resilience, the Indian Army continues to evolve in response to the region’s complex strategic challenges.
