In a landmark move to enhance national security and integrated warfighting capabilities, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, along with the heads of the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force, formally released the Joint Doctrines for Cyberspace Operations and Amphibious Operations in the capital today.
The doctrines mark a strategic shift in India’s defense preparedness. They are aimed at improving interoperability among the three services, ensuring cohesive and swift responses in both cyber and maritime domains.

The Joint Doctrine for Cyberspace Operations outlines a comprehensive approach to cyber defense and offense, reflecting the increasing significance of cyberspace in military strategy. It emphasizes the need for integrated planning and execution of cyber operations, especially in light of a 66% rise in cyber incidents targeting defense infrastructure, as reported by the Indian Council of World Affairs.
In parallel, the Joint Doctrine for Amphibious Operations highlights the importance of joint force deployment, rapid mobility, and maritime-to-land operational synergy. With rising regional tensions and China’s increasing amphibious capabilities — flagged in a RAND Corporation study — the Indian Armed Forces aim to reinforce deterrence and power projection in the Indian Ocean region. The doctrine promotes coordinated training and mission planning among the services, enhancing India’s ability to conduct complex amphibious missions.
Both doctrines provide a standardized framework and common terminology for joint operations, supporting a broader agenda of theater-level integration and modernization. They are now publicly available through official military channels, reinforcing transparency and fostering a greater understanding of India’s evolving defense strategy.
Defense analysts have welcomed the move as timely and forward-looking. The doctrines are expected to significantly boost India’s preparedness against hybrid threats, grey zone warfare, and conventional military challenges in an increasingly contested strategic environment.
