The Indian Air Force (IAF) has launched a rapid relief operation in flood-affected areas of Uttarakhand following flash floods that have caused widespread damage and disrupted connectivity. The deployment aims to provide urgent assistance to stranded residents and support on-ground rescue teams battling the crisis.

As part of the operation, the IAF has mobilised its versatile ALH Dhruv helicopters, capable of operating in challenging mountainous terrain, to airlift stranded people and deliver emergency supplies to remote areas. These helicopters are conducting multiple sorties to ensure timely delivery of relief materials and evacuation of those in distress.
In addition to rotary-wing assets, the IAF has also deployed its newly inducted C-295 transport aircraft and the reliable An-32 fleet to ferry large quantities of relief material, equipment, and personnel into affected zones. This combination of aerial platforms allows the force to balance rapid response with the ability to move heavy loads over longer distances.

Coordination with state authorities, disaster response agencies, and the Indian Army is underway to ensure seamless operations. The IAF is focusing on delivering essential commodities such as food, water, medicine, and shelter materials to communities cut off due to landslides and road blockages triggered by the floods.

The relief mission underscores the IAF’s commitment to humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) operations across the country. With weather conditions remaining uncertain, the Air Force has kept its assets on standby to expand operations as needed, ensuring timely aid to the people of Uttarakhand during this critical hour.
