A significant leadership transition took place at INS Kadamba, a critical naval base in Karwar, Karnataka, as Capt. Amit Kumar Sinha officially assumed command from Capt. VS Guru on September 11, 2025. The ceremony, marked by a formal exchange of command, underscores the Indian Navyโs commitment to strengthening its maritime defence capabilities in the Arabian Sea.
Capt. Sinha, a distinguished alumnus of the National Defence Academy in Khadakvasla, the Defence Services Staff College in Wellington, and the Higher Defence Management Course in Secunderabad, brings a wealth of experience to his new role. A specialist in Anti-Submarine Warfare, he has previously commanded INS Kora and INS Vipul, served as Executive Officer on INS Sahyadri and INS Kirpan, and held the position of Staff Instructor at the prestigious Anti-Submarine Warfare School.

His expertise is expected to enhance the baseโs operational efficiency, aligning with studies indicating a 20% improvement in naval operations with specialized leadership.
INS Kadamba, commissioned on May 31, 2005, as Indiaโs first dedicated naval base under Project Seabird, plays a pivotal role in the nationโs maritime strategy. Initiated in the 1980s under the vision of Admiral Oscar Stanley Dawson, the base was established in Karwar after overcoming debates over alternative sites like Thiruvananthapuram, thanks to its strategic geography.

The base has since facilitated the relocation of 10 capital ships from Mumbai, bolstering regional security amid rising tensions in the Indo-Pacific region. With Phase II of Project Seabird underway, INS Kadamba is set to accommodate up to 50 frontline warships and 40 auxiliary ships, cementing its status as the largest naval base east of the Suez Canal.

The change-of-command ceremony, attended by naval personnel and marked by traditional military honors, highlighted the seamless transition and the baseโs readiness to meet future challenges under Capt. Sinhaโs leadership.
