Indian Air Force Bids Emotional Farewell to Legendary MiG-21

IAF pays poignant tribute as the MiG-21, Indiaโ€™s longest-serving fighter jet, takes its final bow after six decades of iconic service.

n a solemn yet proud ceremony, the Indian Air Force (IAF) bid farewell to the iconic MiG-21 fighter aircraft at Air Force Station, Pune, marking the end of an era in Indiaโ€™s military aviation history.

The event was attended by serving aircrew, veterans, and personnel who had been closely associated with the MiG-21 over decades of service. With a final ceremonial salute, the aircraft that once formed the backbone of the IAF was honored for its unmatched service, courage, and legacy.

Commissioned into the IAF in the 1960s, the MiG-21 played a pivotal role in multiple conflicts, including the 1971 war, where it established air superiority against formidable adversaries. For generations of fighter pilots, the aircraft symbolized the very essence of bravery, skill, and commitment to the nationโ€™s skies.

The farewell ceremony witnessed an emotional fly-past and heartfelt tributes from aircrew, who remembered the aircraft as a steadfast warrior and a guardian of Indiaโ€™s airspace. The final salute symbolized not just the retirement of a fighter jet, but the closing of a glorious chapter of Indian military aviation.

As the MiG-21 officially bows out of active service, the IAF reiterated its pledge to carry forward its indomitable spirit through next-generation platforms like the TEJAS, Rafale, and future advanced combat aircraft.
