Daljit Singh Chaudhary, a 1990-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer currently serving as the Director General of the Border Security Force (BSF), is set to retire on November 30, 2025. His retirement will mark the culmination of a distinguished 34-year career in policing and internal security.
A senior officer from the Uttar Pradesh cadre, Chaudhary has held several key leadership positions across the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs). Before assuming charge as BSF Director General in August 2024, he served as the Director General of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and also held additional charge as Director General of the National Security Guard (NSG). His tenure is widely recognized for decisive leadership, transparency, and strategic foresight.
Earlier in his career, Chaudhary served as Special Director General in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and as Additional DG in the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), where he played a significant role in enhancing coordination among the nation’s security agencies.
During his tenure with the Uttar Pradesh Police, he led several high-profile operations, including the 2005 encounter of notorious gangster Nirbhay Gurjar and the 2017 anti-terror operation in Lucknow against the ISIS Khorasan module.
For his exemplary service, Daljit Singh Chaudhary has been decorated multiple times — receiving four Gallantry Medals, the President’s Police Medal, the Police Medal for Meritorious Service, and the Ati Utkrisht Seva Medal.
An alumnus with degrees in Science and Law, Chaudhary is also a trained skydiver and marksman, embodying courage, discipline, and visionary leadership.
With his retirement, the Indian paramilitary and police community bids farewell to one of its most respected and dynamic officers, marking the end of a remarkable chapter in India’s internal security history.
